  1. I just want some intelligent conversation on what we saw. Here are my thoughts: 1. Virginia Tech might be the worst offensive team I have ever seen from a BCS conference. The D played well, but how much was that the ineptitude of the opponent? 2. We left a lot of receivers open, does a Big 12 offense miss like Taylor did all afternoon? 3. We ran the ball well, but Va Tech isn't exactly a great run defense. How should we judge that? 4. We have a serious problem against a speed rush DE, don't you think? Our tackles looked bad. 5. Am I the only one who thinks this could be as big a positive as it was a disappointment? Thanks in advance for your insight.
  2. Hes not being considered. Lee played terrible yes. But if Green was on his heels he would be in the game. Let not forget he had little help from his O-line and many drop on catchable balls. Holt being the biggest contributor to the drop list. I have been trying my hardest to have people take a step back and realize this team has yet reached the turning point. Even though the secondary didnt give up a lot of yards Tyrod Taylor isnt exactly your pick you apart QB. The d line seemed content to stand on the line of scrimmage than really rush. I think this was playing scared not to get beat by his legs. If you check the stat line I would say they were successful. Alot of people are giving O'Hanlon crap for blowing coverage while the grief needs to go to Anthony West for staring in the backfield. Cover 2 man, cover 2. West was supposed to be there. I agree O'Hanlon got burned, but that was Pelini's call. .....and it was a bad one. Nevermind, though. I truly believe this loss is maybe better than winning a game like this. Playing like this and winning would be harder to teach the kids than losing when making those mistakes. all in all....... GO BIG RED
  3. nahh. My question is are they even considering it. I doubt they let Green start, but I am sure the thought is occurring to them, since Lafayette is basically a warm up game. No it isn't. F U C K I am so sick of this boner everybody has for Green. He can't even run 5% of the plays. HE WILL NOT START THIS YEAR. I can't believe this sh#t, actually I can. Typical bull sh#t from ignorant morons.... Some "fans" know nothing about the game.
  4. I am fully aware this may get me in trouble with the mods, but BUZZARD BILLY, YOU'RE POSTS IN THIS THREAD AND OTHERS ARE IGNORANT AND IDIOTIC
  5. Talk about overrated!Clemson and Miami has already shown the most overrated team in the ACC! What is it with you guys and taking cheap shots at GT ... pretty sure they are not the opponent this week? Some kind of inferiority complex since NU has been down for some time now??? I was actually trying to provide insight since I am pretty sure I am more familiar with VT because they are in the ACC. Don't be so quick to open your mouth, you don't know who will be exposed tomorrow. Dude, with a name like lunch pail I would imagine that is a Hokie fan....just sayin'!
  6. Nothing, are you friggin' kidding me? How about the fact he has won...... wait for it..... the Big 12 South every year but 2 and the sum bitchin' CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP 5 times, out of 8 seasons.
  7. Wow wish you would have posted one minute before, would have saved me a lot of typing.
  8. I don't know how much anybody else knows about football at the college level, but I know how much I know. IMHO you are both right. Missing tackles and getting blown off the ball are not directly because of the scheme. However, if you run less vanilla with more stunts, twists, LB and Secondary run blitzes the chance of having more than one guy at the point of contact does increase exponentially therefore missed tackles go down quickly. It also has to do with what the opponent has seen on film and what they will be prepared for. Also, missed tackles is easy to fix. Every time they miss a tackle they sit out and the team runs sprints. They watch as their team does some calisthenic exercise that absolutely sucks. Eventually, if you have the right culture in place (which I believe Pelini does) they won't want to see their brothers suffer because they made a mistake. With Pelini as the coach, I wouldn't worry too much about missed tackles until it becomes a habit. As far as the DLine, not many times when the #1 dline was on the field were they pushed backward. Matter of fact Suh and Crick spent the majority of their day in the backfield. When you rush only 4 against a spread team like that you are going to A) get extremely tired on your defensive front and B) give up a lot on QB scrambles. This is why we will stunt, twist, and blitz Taylor. Tyrod Taylor is nowhere near the threat through the air that Rusty Smith or Corey Leonard were. I would argue that Leonard is a more complete QB and more dangerous than Taylor when scrambling because he is so accurate on the move THROWING the football. I would say we were not that vanilla on offense against ASU like the first week. I am not as good with offense as defense, so if somebody more in tune with that side of the ball could share their opinion on that it would be great. Just my $.02.....
  9. Letting his buddy (Cosgrove) keep his job even though he sucked at it. That did burn him in the end, though.
  10. If you look at pure statistics of running defense, you have a point. However, week 1 was so vanilla it was almost unbearable. Week 2 was against a spread team. They run the ball out of the shotgun with 4 WR. Completely different than VT. 4-3 versus pro style running plays, much like the entire SEC...... I like Pelini's chances.
  11. Then why is every national media outlet saying this is the ACC's last chance? Hate to break it to you, no team with a coach worth a sh#t would acknowledge a "measuring stick" game. The media sets these "measureing stick" games, because only the media pumps us full of this crap in order to get controversy to get ratings. Although I hate to admit it, when I say media I mean ESPN. Reality is if ESPN calls it a measuring stick game...it is! That's just the way the sports world works now.
  12. I think we may be agreeing here more than we know. I don't think they could change it right away, but it can be done. Win 9-10 games a few years. Beat a highly ranked team, and you start pulling the right kind of player for your system. Sometimes it only takes 1 or 2 game breakers on offense and you start to see dominance. You mention that those coaches are great recruiters, and I agree. However, is that because they are that great at recruiting or is it because of the facilities and the fact that the athletes know they are a good coach? You said it before that Callahan pulled the wool over these kid's eyes, I think kids like Bo because he is a straight shooter. I also think right now he is targeting a few of the top-tier guys but is also looking at diamonds in the rough that the top recruiting schools are missing. That is what TO did. I only have a problem with one thing you've said now that I think we are kind of on the same page, we just have a different personal belief on how you determine "elite". That's the beauty of opinions, I think. The thing I didn't like that you said was that when TO left we didn't have the elite athletes like the other programs. We put more players in the NFL, especially on defense, than nearly every team out there. FSU and Miami were the only ones with more. TO got the talent but, more importantly, he and his staff coached them when he got there. I feel Bo is in that mold. Does that mean we may have to wait longer for our "return"? Maybe, but at least it will be done our way. BTW, sorry to "attack" you. I just get pissed at the "you can't get good players to NU because it's cold" crowd. That argument is ridiculous. I inadvertently mixed you in that group. Sorry for that.
  13. Guys, quick question. Do you that are a little more in tune think that the slow down in recruiting recently has more to do with kids getting full into their season, that they're waiting for us to show against VT or conference opponents, or do you think that we need to wait for a few more visits? Just curious, also-who are the top guys we have a shot at? Any big names on the defensive side of the ball?
  14. It's all in response to your hospitality last year. I'm actually nervous to see if we can return it in the same quantity you provided it. Take some pics of the tailgate tonight and post them up here for all of us to see
  15. That's all well and good for Miami and OU, but this is a measuring stick for us. This game is a very important game for the program as well as recruiting. NU is planning on making it a big deal for the 300 sell out. Selling 3 and 4 star recruits tradition and atmosphere is all well and goo, but we have to start showing some of the better recruits that not only can we win big against college football's bottom feeders we can compete with the big boys. Regardless to what people say when a kid sits down and looks at the options they have available they usually go to the school for two reasons: Where do I feel I would get the best chance to play. Where do I feel I will have the best chance to win. Nothing saying all but for the most part all that other stuff is just fluff. I am interested to see how the Miami/V-Tech game next week turns out becuase after our game we will know where V-Tech as and be able to gauge how good Miami really is. Then the Miami/OU game following weekend will give us a good gauge of the OU team we will face on November 7th Those two and the relationship with the coach. Spot on, NKAFM. Hey that sounds like call letters for a radio station!
  16. Two years ago, my wife was interviewing for a job in Jefferson City the week after NU went down there and got blasted by Missouri. I was looking at colleges at the time for my second degree and went to visit MU. It was a nice campus, good school. I'm glad she didn't take the job, didn't want to move behind enemy lines. On my visit, I wore my Husker hat and t-shirt that counts down the sellouts, all-americans, conference titles, MNC, Heismans, and then says 1 Nebraska. That is a fan!
  17. Seinfeld fan? No, no. One person's sexual preference is no one's business but their own.
  18. I think you have been in Southern California too long, sir. Year after year after year when recruits are asked all across the country what their determining factor for where they went to college are, you know what number one, two, and three are nearly every year? 1. Coach 2. Facilities 3. Tradition/Support Location or weather are never listed. Never. You have watched too much ESPN, listened to too many USC idiots, and gotten too far away from reality out there in never-never land. If it is only about location and that, why did USC suck a$$ until they landed a top-tier coach named Carroll? What about Alabama? How fvcking good were they until they got Saban? How about Texas? They sucked before "The Closer" Mack Brown showed up. OU? Stoops. Remember how bad Florida had gotten under Zook? In comes Urban Meyer. How about before that? They were never worth a shitt until Spurrier. Form your own opinion through research and critical thinking. Don't just spew regurgitated drivel like you've been sitting around all day watching Fox News and now think you can have an intelligent conversation. It is about the coach, and that is everything. The right coach will bring the athletes and will coach those up that the morons at Rivals and Scout that don't know their ass from a hole in the ground about football missed. You really think that every HS player out there has an accurate depiction from Scout or Rivals? Are they really going to every game, or just pulling stats?
  19. Put that N up under their chin, for four quarters, and get all up in somebody's asses. That made me want to go hit someone right now.
  20. You could create your own board? Name it whatever you want. This one is huskerboard. Contact a site admin to learn more about how to create a "rumor" board or heck it could be whatever you would like. Most admins are generous with sharing info on creating a board and going about the layout/design, etc. I could even share some info to get you started if you really do want to create your own message board. Also, yeah, the I heard from 'pelinis moms dentists cousin' or whatever they are posts really aren't funny at all. alright newb. "rumorville" was a sub board of huskerboard once upon a time.....does that help a little? Okay well then contact the huskerboard admin about the possibility of getting the sub board back onto the current site. Take the initiative and you might get your favorite sub board back, it doesn't hurt to send out an email and see if it could happen. If you really did love it then maybe there are more that loved it as well and if the admin gets enough users asking for the board to be put back up then he would make it happen. Again, I know nothing of the board just trying to help is all. Good luck! had to be here when rumorville was around, man. Not good, everybody had inside information, this douchebag IBR was on here..... I think I just got a headache, the IBR migraine is back.
  21. Collins wouldn't have been accepted into Stanford based on academics, or his ACT/SAT score. He made the bare minimum to even be considered by Stanford, and his athletic abilities took over from there. REALLY??? He graduated with a 4.0 GPA if my memory serves me correctly from Westside HS. Where did you get your facts? If you have proof of such scores please post them for eveyone! OK, He left the team... He is also only 19 or 20. I for one wish him the best in anything he does in the future. Just because it didn't work out for him here doesn't mean he is a bad kid. 3.5 actually according to Rivals, he is an extremely smart kid. I know some people at his former school. Yes he did go to Westside HS in Omaha. Some people spout off at the mouth about a kid before they now anything about him. Sad to see him go, he is a good kid with a great attitude. Can't blame him, though. If you had the chance to go to Stanford for free when you know you aren't going to play pro ball, wouldn't you? Imagine his contacts out in the "real world" from a place like Stanford. Not going to argue his grades/ACT/SAT because i have no clue about any of those... I do know he dropped out of Calc 1 in the summer before his freshman year.. 1st off, he was obviously intelligent to be IN the class, that's more the point im tryin to make here.. Cotton and Levorsen (sp) seemed to do pretty well, so i'm guessing Collins needed it for a math credit and didn't wanna take it then...I remember ben sayin somethin to the TA like collins just didn't like it, so whatever that means... So saying he's 'stupid' or whatever really isn't that accurate.... I wasn't calling him stupid by any means, I know he's a bright kid. I lived on the same floor as him last year, so I got the chance to become decent friends with him. For some reason he liked to hang out with me and another average-joe friend and play Rockband every night, so we really got to understand what he went through. That said, having come out of high school 2 years ago, I can vouch that you need more than just a 4.0 in high school to go to Stanford or Ivy leagues. A 4.0 in high school isn't overwhelmingly hard to achieve, which is why Stanford requires a very high SAT score. Not if you can play football, they go by the Pac-10 standards. Having only come out of high school 2 years ago, you should have known that. Never heard anybody use that as a reason for obtaining knowledge before.
  22. To just touch on that point, I think somewhere around 90% of Stanford biology students took Calc their senior year of HS or before. If that was his first Calc course, and he not only got offered admission, but a full ride to Stanford, I think that says something (and it's not a bad thing). Oh, I was never arguing that he wasn't getting a little help from football. To deny that would be asinine. Sorry, missed pointing that out earlier. Whatever he decides, good luck to him!
  23. Be careful, staring at your shiny little recruiting stars can blind you to the truth. They are a crock of shitt!
  24. First of all, that prettier name carries a lot more weight than the University of Nebraska. If you don't believe that, I've got to ask that you put down that red kool-aid for a second. NU carries more weight athletically, don't even pretend that in academia we are close to Stanford. Just sayin'. Secondly, I meant through academic contacts, not football. His GPA at UNL in biological sciences would show that he has academic endeavors that are going to last much longer than his football career. Sounds like Mr. Okafor is using CFB for what it was originally meant to be used for. A means to an end, play football for us and we give you your education. Of course this is all speculation as we have no idea of his plans at this point, do we?
