  1. this brings up an excellent point that has been overlooked...offensive penalties/mistakes. they have been huge. and they quickly put the defense back on the field in numerous times. do i even have to bring up a game such as the ISU home loss? ANY defense would have a mountain to climb with our offense of the last few years behind it. you can talk til your blue in the face that nebraska's defense needs to make some dramatic change to be able to handle run based offenses, but Bo has worked in the SEC, and consistently shut down offenses far different than what the big 12 has to offer. was it really more of a shock that sdsu scored as many points as they did on us, or that the nebraska offense didnt? if the offense can prove (see what i did there?) that they can stay on the field, thus alleviating the defense of, hell, even one drive a game, well then...there's your cookie. i remember one game last year where our offensive line said give us the damn ball and actually proved it (one drive really, and many, myself included, said oh there is the offense we need)...and we ended up losing to that team the second time around. championships very well may be won with defense, and one squad is usually better than the other. but not to the wide gap we've experienced at the hands of the nebraska program the past few years. the offense has 2 things to prove really: that they can score when needed, and that they can consistently not f#*k up the entire operation.
  2. maybe third time on the ragged edge is the charm? because thats kinda what we're lookin at. with the texas win, we made up for our 'first mistake' (tech and baylor losses, if we had those plus the texas win, sheeit) then we follow that glimpse of hope (based more on other big 12 teams mediocrity rather than our exciting win over Texas alone) by an enormous bed crapping with KSU and ISU...now we are somehow, i swear its black magic, back where we were after going an ugly 1-2 since texas, staring down a road game, of all things. geesh. actually, the more i think about it, the less sense it makes.
  3. exhausting, but not in the enjoyable way.
  4. my grandpa had one installed in his yard and i have yet to see a year pass that something doesnt have to be addressed with it, and he is one of those religious maintenance types. his yard is immaculate, and the sprinkler system is like his evil nemesis. twice in the 8 years hes had it his yard has had to be torn up to replace lines. so many things go wrong with them, especially in our climate. start ups, winterization, mowing stuck heads off, sediment in the lines, replacing pumps...on and on and on. maybe he just got a bad draw, who knows. Either way, prepare for at least the first year or two to be trying. i have a friend in the lawn and landscape business, and while he puts in enormous water features and drip irrigation regularly, he wont mess with auto sprinklers. he refers Hoich Irrigation or Millard Sprinkler. Expect a free estimate, and the inevitable upsale of other landscaping work. As far as pricing, with the free estimates and many companies in town doing it, you should be fine. The biggest way its going to get out of hand is what type and how many heads you place, how many seperate zones your yard shape will require, and how fancy of a programmer you want. The quicker the better though. My buddy is already out doing installs and is booked through the middle of June.
  5. thats classic gobigger. i remember a story from a few years back about a black firefighter's association in a rather large local union actually suing the 'white firefighters association'...that did not officially exist, it had only been started as a joke because they wouldnt even let their white co-workers in their clubhouse. a complete head scratcher, and rather hilarious in the end.
  6. VERY dramatic SI.com homepage...and I was sucked in... after reading the article, I want my ten minutes back.
  7. seems as though the question should be "which home game will you attend or wish you could attend because some other big name school will be there and that makes it mean more" by some of the answers. for me, the moccasin game is the game I am most excited about, because its the first game on the schedule that I get to go back and not only watch Husker football in Memorial Stadium, but see friends that I can pick up a conversation with like we worked together yesterday, when In reality its been almost a year. Call me corny if you want. But dont call me a liar or mock it.
  8. for reference: Big Red Football School Its a general camp overall, for quarterback prospects....my opinion is that he would learn many skills, not only related to football, by attending it though. Perhaps he would not have to attend this year, eh? Give a little more info on your biased prospect, and maybe you can find a way to sponsor him. If he is at such a small school, its unlikely they attend the team camp. Standing on that field turf can do wonders for a young mans confidence and goals.
  9. they will recieve the television money, but will have to repay it, with interest, the year after if there are no games. its simply a lifeline. ive also read in several places that the TV contract money alone that is paid out to each team covers players salaries for every franchise under the salary cap. that means everything else is gravy for the league and owners. are players overpaid? sure. but the NFL isnt hurting. something like a $900 million pot has been set aside for owners/teams to dip into in situations like this. I hate that all these old players are getting sh#t, dying, etc., and there is a token fund, set up by the NFLPA, that supports them, kind of. They are both greedy as heck. But the players, well, they grease the machine in the end. We shall see how big their balls are.
  10. say youre forty years old, sittin at the tailgate... would you bring up, "i had an invite to go to the camp, but didnt go, but i played a decent baseball game that day in...' or would you tell the story about how you went, who you saw, who you threw to? what does he want to do?
  11. on the other hand, I do get where you are coming from walks...but to me, the offense has yet to prove anything other than consistent failure. You cant say that about the D. The D wears the belt, its the champ, he's taken a few knocks, sure. The offense is still looking for its own though. It has something to prove.
  12. the offense has more to prove, the defense has more to lose. no one will be expecting the offense to put up 30 a game against the big twelve...but if the defense starts giving up that much...whoa nelly. as far as the run defense last year...Bo's Big 12 D was built on denying the spread, so rushing numbers were a bit higher. Kind like a prevent, but in reverse? Who knows. All I know is that Bo is born and bred Big Ten, served MORE than admirably in the SEC, and has shown nothing but insane capability at adapting and putting players in position to shut whatever type of offense up on the defensive side. The offense proves it can give a little support to that d island, I like the Big Red's chances.
  13. i explicitly remember cheering when the raiders unloaded him. little did i know... that was a bad year. i'd probably still be a raiders fan had it worked out differently.
  14. my mom straight up told me that I wouldnt be here if she knew where to find/could afford an abortion clinic at the time. ( i can hear the g.d.'s ) good thing they didnt have google back then on the farm. she was 17. before you think, oh poor mmmtodd or the like, hear that she is glad she couldnt/didnt/whatever, and it was a very plain conversation overall. just honesty. my aunt used to work for planned parenthood, doing marketing. (she is an expert grant writer, she has done the same for girl scouts of america, the arbor day tree farm, and now currently the Omaha Center for Literacy...she is also far from "religious") i volunteered with her one summer. i handed out condoms and brochures on safe sex. omaha people might remember sweet 98.5...embarrassed to admit one of them was at sweetstock, 'got' to meet blessid union of souls...ugh. did a radio remote with them too, right on dodge street. the whole gist was to get people to be tested for std's. hrm.
  15. thats it i bought a NES. couldnt take it anymore. randomly saw a last starfighter reference an hour or two ago, and took it as a sign. got it from lukie games online, they had good reviews and an A- accredited BBB rating. 69.95 for the system, two paddles, super mario bros and duck hunt, with a gun. however, the gun apparently will not work on anything other than old school tube screens...which I do not have. hrm. i also snagged Super Mario Bros 3 for $14. dont tell me i could have found it cheaper somewhere else. i frankly dont care. now for games. anyone have good, trustworthy sources for games? (they have games there as well, but im lookin, ya know?)
  16. pro football never really took a grasp on me team wise. i was a raiders/packers/bears fan growing up. now im pretty much bears. the reaper of an owner, coupled with me going to my knees when we hired callahan, effectively ended my relationship with them. the end of the ahman green era in green bay ended that one. bears have always been there (got an uncle with an 85 ring, used to like other teams to just not like his), and i love hating the current quarterback. i really dont care much about the nfl at all, other than the redzone channel coupled with my fantasy football team. thats the only thing i will miss.
  17. We have airtime, one way or the other. The stat i wanna see is how many appearances do various schools make on those ESPN classic broadcasts. I wonder if one could make the argument the reason many 'classic' Nebraska game WINS are not played, rather than the losses, is simply because in others eyes complete domination does not make a classic, or something like that...make any sense? Who besides us wants to see Florida wiped out by 40 over and over again? A couple schools? Maybe its more of a compliment that so many classic games with Nebraska losing are shown. Its not too hard to think. If Im some random NBA player from the 90's, I have pictures on my wall of me shooting on MJ. Not Penny Hardaway. and as a response to the ladyhawke post(s): that is the very game that defines nebraska football for me, no matter that it was a loss. thats the game i'd show someone that had never seen nebraska football before, just because of the talk it would open up after it. i watch it every time i see it is on, and i sit on the edge of my seat every time at the end. thats one, among many, I thank ESPN for playing all the time. who cares its a loss...its nebraska never give up, never surrender, ill fight to the end attitude in full display. even the best gunslingers caught one eventually.
  18. thought I'd lay an egg in the recruiting forum, of which I usually avoid. Todays Shatel column bid farewell to Mitch Sherman: just a blurb. linky dinky do.
  19. nope, not at all. im actually looking forward to the Players Union dissolving then suing the sh#t out of the NFL. gonna make one hell of a case. a case that could potentially trickle down to the NCAA football level, especially with full focus on NCAA football for a year or two without NFL competition. Seriously, think about it. A union dissolving, then the class action...been watching the news lately? It has the potential to be epic. and at first, i felt bad for Huskers and others that may not get drafted and sit the lockout without the ability to sign a free agent contract...but in the end, f#*k them. thats life. the last 10 years Ive seen ups and downs, and Im okay.
  20. okay, you got me. I might be most excited about this one...the trash talking between my Iowa friends has gotten pretty tense with every passing week. Im good friends with a bar/its owner in Council Bluffs, and when we go over there I always wear a Husker shirt, and he wont turn on the Nebraska basketball games. Ive walked in and they were on, and he shuts them off. I watch my phone and yell out the score and request the game be put on every time i order a drink. Its honest fun and I hope it will continue once football starts, because I plan on Nebraska shutting the sqwakeyes up. I'd hate to punch him in the face.
  21. Which is why Peterson will be moved to safety. He is already at 221 pounds, and some team will fall in love with the thought of him roaming around in a two deep zone. if either one of them does move to safety, Id lay my money on Prince ending up there first.
