  1. I went into a different room - same room that I finished watching the Gator Bowl in. My room is 2-0 now!!
  2. You must have been watching a different game or different play than the rest of us then.
  3. so did Pelini yesterday... well, that's what his Tweet said.
  4. Night owlism? Husker winism? Not really sure how to answer. Maybe I never sleep.
  5. I don't know you from Adam, shyndy, but at least for the moment, you're really capturing my sentiments. By now, even the most self-respecting visiting Jayhawk on this board knows they need to earn the right to chest-pumping, or at least SHOULD know that. Got Carl's Disclaimer: I generally have no problem with KU or their fans, and will root for them in the non-conf/bowl games, however I do wonder if 2007 was the worst possible thing to happen to this program on the rise... It's better to build a program with gradual measurable progress, instead of one year of "the perfect storm". Nebraska may be the only program with higher expectations at this point. See ya in November, Jayhawks!
  6. Keep Paul as a WR and I'll be the first to sing his praises as they occur, but I have yet to trust him on special teams. In fact, quite the opposite. I'm getting to the point where I actually cringe. It takes a lot to make me cringe. I'm not talking about tonight in bad weather, either. I do really appreciate the fact he's doing everything in his power to try to make a play on special teams, however, Niles -- PLEASE DO NOT RUN BACKWARDS attempting to make a play on ST, when simply catching and falling forward would be the wiser choice.
  7. I will just answer it now. SO FAR, YES!!! Thus far, after 5 games, he has absolutely lived up to the hype. There is a lot of season left, granted, but I did worry that there were undue fan expectations on this guy and he'd fall short, even if he had a spectacular season. Instead, I think he's exceeded expectations after 5/12 of the season, and did absolutely nothing to hurt his draft status last night. I actually hope that eventually his draft status drops a tiny little bit so he can end up on a team that doesn't suck TOO bad! SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH!!!!
  8. I will say that I was somewhat impressed with Gabbert for playing through the pain/injury. For the longest time I had him pegged as "fragile". based on his high school reports. I still haven't seen much from either of tonight's QB's this season, but hat's off to Gabbert for actually lasting the whole game when he could have easily wussed out and sent his capable back up in. Honestly, and sorry MU fans, I really thought the first sign of pain, Gabbert would bail. I'm glad to see I was wrong because I really do appreciate the gritty competitor aspect of sports.
  9. I think you touched on the key component in internet sports forums. Fans versus players. On this site, the greater majority of us are just fans, and there is a lot of banter between fans on an anonymous message board. So, I think when there are images generated of a competitor's "pain", we transfer the built up animosity to whatever opposing anonymous poster who is associated with the bearer of the pain. with that said, "GUILTY AS CHARGED". The players aren't the ones spouting off, the fans are, so I naturally want to see those spouting off associated with the team who is crying. I have no problem with that. In a neutral setting, I really appreciate good athletes at every level and great competition, and will absolutely acknowledge great athleticism (even if it goes against my favorite). However this one seemed a bit more personal based on recent past history, and for a few hours, I will definitely relish the psychological pain of an opponent captured on film. After the few hours, I'll start focusing on the next opponent, like the team will be. several hours later .... Now, bring on the Red Raiders. See, I enjoyed it for 5 minutes, now I'm on to the next challenge.
  10. I'll take my usual stance: Doesn't matter until the final week. A conference win on the road where the last win was in 2001 is absolutely awesome and worth much more than the pollsters will ever acknowledge. But, I'm going to relish the conf. win for a bit, and worry about the polls later. Just keep winning and the final polls (the only ones that actually matter) will straighten themselves out. Really - trust me.
  11. shyndy - I think that was the first and only game I actually cried. (It's ok, I'm a chick, I can admit the crying). That was definitely a low point in history... though, sadly, it wouldn't be the LOWEST since then. However, our attitude is why the Huskers have had 300, soon to be 301, consecutive sellouts. We live and die with this team, always have... and hopefully always will! Born, bred, Nebraska RED! I hope to make the 350th sellout!
  12. PF calls are completely out of control this season. I accept them on behalf of my team when they are merited, but thus far, not too many have been. Again, all I can say is that they are out of control. I'm not going to argue about calls tonight, though a few were questionable, there were a few in previous Husker games that were totally bogus. "Unreviewable" calls need to be reviewable at all times to keep accountability at all times. I understand refs are on the front lines and things do happen very quickly - I wouldn't want that job. But, if I was a ref, I would really strive for 100% accuracy, like I do in any other endeavor.
  13. Those who lost faith at any point in this game, please send me, via private message, your home address. I'm sending a "SUH-o-Gram" to your homes. I may not sunshine pump enough with my words, but Suh will definitely talk some sense into you people. There may not be much talking with Suh though, so please reconsider where you place your faith from here on out.
  14. as an arm chair ref, I gave him the TD... Mr. Decommit's only TD of any kind for the evening. The call made on the field is obviously crucial to this discussion, or any call discussion, because it is pivotal to any review. There really wasn't enough to overturn it, IMO. I am objective enough to give the guy the benefit of the doubt on this and tell Gabbert to enjoy his one TD the whole night. I'm actually more inclined to argue about a particular TD pass that the refs said was "bobbled" for an incomplete pass a couple of weeks ago, but I'll let that go for now.
  15. Shame on you. Honest to GOD... I knew when they were down 12-0, they'd still win. Don't ask me how, maybe it was sunshine pumping optimism, or the happy pills, or whatever, but I guess I always feel they can win, and even when I feel it may be out of reach, at least I hope they will fight to the sound of the gun and end on a positive note. I will never doubt these guys under this coach. I get really ticked when some "NFL" type fan wants to change the channel because a team is down a few points. No, I want to see how the team FINISHES despite the score. I saw how the team finished tonight. and yeah, I would not classify this as "best ever" material, but it was awfully important in the grand scheme of things for this season for a myriad of reasons. For one, unlike a couple of years ago, or even last year, the Big Red is 2 games away from bowl eligibility at this point of the season. Odds are we won't have to wait until November till they're bowl eligible for the 2009-10 season.
  16. I was absolutely ecstatic to hear his name called because, to be honest, I didn't get into his hype at all. I'm not even sure there was any hype, now that I think about it. But, we need guys like him, who make doubters out of me (and the opponent), who just make the plays when they are on the field despite the preconceived notions of ability.
  17. I don't like to say anything about too many coaches, especially when one had owned a series record, but after watching them in the KU/MU game last year, and in this game, I think the urban legend "Pinkel factor" may actually have steam. Then again, I still think Pelini should have gone for it on 4th & 1 at the VT 37 and hope to milk the clock for the win and potential 5-0 start and potential top 10 - 15 ranking... so I can't say we're immune from the questionable HC call from time to time. The difference is that we have a second year coach still learning, versus a HC who has been around the same team for nearly a decade.
  18. Thanks, M-B77. This post is just added big time points to the lost respect I had during the CD years. I can't thank you enough for this kind of post because it gives me hope that sportsmanship is alive and well within the fans in this conference after all - especially after the OU Volleyball incident. I'm not one to hate a team for past losses, but sorry, CD was a terrible ambassador to the MU program and yes, it has added to my own animosity. My only hope out of this is that you don't have to eat too much crow from Nebraska fans for the next year... oh yeah, and that you haven't given any reason for needing to.
  19. Respect to MU defense...they were much better than I thought. I agree, but in my current drunken stupor, I have thought for the past few years that MU's defense has looked absolutely terrible coming into this game, only to find after the bye week that they had addressed their problems. Before the season started, I actually was thinking that Pinkel would get the best of the Huskers one more year (since he had a bye week to prepare), but only one more year; although I predicted in my head that this would be a loss, I did figure it would be the last Husker loss to MU for awhile. I will say this: There are a few Tiger fans on this board that I enjoy a great deal, including and especially FRO, and for those few people, thank you for regaining my lost respect back via this forum. Sorry, but previously any respect I did have was thrown out with mr. CD, possibly the only college football player I have ever actually hated because of his douche-baggery. There are a few of you Tiger fans on this board that I would watch a game with and buy you a beer, and probably more than that, win or lose. Oh, and in case it matters, this will always be one truth:
  20. Holy Buffalo chips, -32?!! Well, for the record, I believe CU will definitely cover. Texas seems to play up or down for their opponent. Maybe CU will finally wake up and make a game of it. One can hope anyway.
  21. It actually WOULD be cool. Very cool.
  22. That's why I never make predictions, talk smack, or speak in absolutes. Crow tastes crappy. My job doesn't depend on it, so I just keep my mouth shut. If the Huskers lose, I do have to stay away from the board for awhile because the people on suicide watch get on my nerves big time, but my absence will never be because my mouth wrote a check I couldn't cash.
  23. Thanks IV Hokie - congrats on your win over Miami. That was sweet! By the way, I enjoyed myself immensely, save for 2 minutes, in your stadium. Your fans have been and continue to be a total class act. I did not encounter one single obnoxious Hokie fan the entire weekend. Hell, I expected to see at least one. But, the only obnoxious fan I met was sitting behind me wearing red. Please stop by often and let us know how you're doing!
  24. Well, while Illinois looks like a bad team, that was a HUGE game in a 50/50 hostile stadium. Blaine handled the big pressure around it (including the fact that it was his first start in his hometown) incredibly well. And while you may think he didn't play well in Nevada (and he did miss some open men in teh red zone), his stats were outstanding. I was impressed with Gabbert's poise during his first start, even though Illinois is turning out to be less than advertised. That's the only MU game I have really seen, though. The kid is a good player and will only get better with time.
