  1. Hey, this time we can't possibly lose, and it shouldn't result in any embarrassing tirade by an ESPN staff member. http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/polls?pCat=46&sCat=535
  2. Kansas' defense split with Bill Young. They won't be beating any good teams w/o a defense. So far...and I hate to say this....that's true. Wasn't Young the DC in 2006? If you compare KU's defensive stats/rankings between 2006 and 2008, there isn't a remarkable difference. I'm not saying Young isn't a good DC, but I think rkhufu7 had a bit of a hidden agenda in his statement. Hint: rkhufu7 seems to talk a lot about Okie State... coincidence that Young is there now? I think not.
  3. Sweet - check back and let us know how it went, if you can.
  4. Chemistry is more than just starting games though.. Chemistry can stem from taking leadership and owning mistakes... as many people heard, the team supposedly like Ganz better than Keller, hence creating that "chemistry" better with Ganz than Keller... Whether or not that was true, I couldn't tell ya, but seems to me that his chemistry stemmed for from things like that as opposed to actual playing time.. However, I'm sure it just grew with the PT. I don't mean to disparage Keller in any way, but I think there is something to be said for the lack of chemistry he had with the team. A red flag got raised in my mind a bit when I read about him being named the starter at ASU, followed by his teammates basically petitioning that coach to have Carpenter start instead. At least, that was one of the rumors I heard. Whether it's true or completely false about his former coach being a spineless wimp is even besides the point -- I saw the lack of chemistry he had at Nebraska. The difference between Ganz and Keller was like night and day in that aspect. Also, I wouldn't say it's exactly common sense to get the ball to Purify. I really think Keller just didn't see the whole field, and used Lucky as his safety net a little too often. Ganz, for the most part, looked at all of his options, and tried the BEST one he thought was available, not the safest.
  5. Quote from the article: Consider me officially worried if Watson is comparing Lee to Ochs. Time in the system and the maturity level at Lee's age should (hopefully) make a big difference, of course. But, if our "raw but talented" QB is only able to get 11 total TD's this year, and tosses nearly as many ints, it will probably be a pretty dismal year.
  6. I've heard VT is among one of the best. I shall see for myself in September and report back.
  7. I'm really surprised Clemson made this list! I'm also shocked Penn state fans aren't mentioned. My boss is a season ticket holder and would never act that way, but she condones it from others. (It's like a pride thing with them to see how awful they can be). warning - not safe for work or children: Some students also had that classless thing for Halloween after the VT incident. Just pure class. Also, didn't their president have to issue a formal apology to Nebraska awhile back? I'm also pretty sure they had to apologize to the Ohio State band. (maybe that was someone else, but seems like it was Penn State). They are awful awful fans, for the most part, and they'd definitely be in the top 5 of my list. I can see, for the most part, why OU would be on the list. But, I have personally not yet ever encountered an OU fan that I found to be top 4 in the obnoxious category. Ok, there was one. But he's dead now. Seriously.
  8. Well, so much for THAT theory! Still a long way till Feb, though.
  9. In my humble opinion, there IS NO COMPETITION. This is the real deal right here. I've lurked on a couple of other sites, but every discussion ends up in a pssing contest. Here you have great Husker fans, and of many other teams all just getting together for some great football talk. (Just don't mention changing the uni's! ) Mods - thanks for keeping it a great place to "live", and thanks to all the level-headed posters who keep me coming back.
  10. The Briscoe thread got me to thinking, "What exactly are the criteria for academic eligibility?". The Texas site referenced below seems to be the closest I could find that pertains to Big 12 specific rules, but so far I'm reading in a few spots that an athlete isn't allowed to count summer school as part of eligibility. I don't see what it matters when you take the course, as long as it applies towards your degree. While I was never an athlete, I took quite a few summer classes. They all counted! Progress Toward Degree Requirements To maintain your eligibility, you must: 1) Complete 24 credits prior to second year of enrollment; 2) Earn 18 semester credits during the academic year (excluding summer); 3) Earn six academic credits in the previous regular academic term or full-time enrollment; 4) Declare a major no later than the beginning of your fifth semester or third year of enrollment and, thereafter, complete the required credits in courses applicable to your declared major; 5) Complete 40%, 60%, and 80% of your degree requirements before the beginning of your third, fourth and fifth years of enrollment, respectively; 6) Maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average that is 90% of the minimum GPA required to graduate (at least 1.8) at the beginning of your second year, 95% of the minimum GPA (1.9) at the beginning of the fourth year and 100% of the minimum GPA (2.0) the fifth year. The Big 12 Six-Hour Rule A student-athlete must successfully complete at least six credit hours in a regular term (exclusive of intersession and summer credit) with a minimum grade of "C-" or pass six hours with an overall cumulative GPA of 2.0 to be eligible for competition that takes place during the next regular term of the institution. A student-athlete who fails to satisfy this rule and is in his or her last season of competition may neither compete nor be in uniform during postseason and between-term competition occurring after dates to be determined annually by the Big 12. This rule does not apply to student-athletes who have graduated with a bachelor's degree. NCAA Five-Year Rule The NCAA states that you have five calendar years in which to complete four years of competition in a sport. This five-year clock begins when you become a full-time student at any collegiate institution. These five years are continuous. If you are not enrolled in school at any time during these five years, you do not regain that time. In special cases, you may be granted an extension of the five-year eligibility clock.
  11. I watched a replay of this recently, trying to get a glimpse at how they played in a big time stadium on the road, and in general. I was disappointed because it was really hard to judge anything (offensively) by that game. Neither QB could hold on to the ball or throw since it was a deluge at times and totally sloppy play on offense by both teams. In any event, the scoreboard said 17-0, but FAU left 13-17 points on the field. Pretty much right off the bat, they had a 70+ yard TD run called back on an unnecessary hold that had zero impact on the play. Then got into chip shot FG range and totally botched the snap. It could have easily been 10-0 in FAU's favor to start the game. Late in the game, they were very deep in the red zone and had a turnover. They didn't have an answer for Ringer, but they played some otherwise good, hard hitting defense. Husker game plan should be: Saturate the field, soak the ball, and run right at them.
  12. Impressive - Speed demon/Iron man would look great in red. basselope - you sound like a parent? If so, we kind of have to tread lightly on the topic. But, either way, I think you've nailed it on your impressions. I know we are biased around here, but I honestly believe in all the points you brought up on your view of Nebraska. I think a visit would only cement your view points. As for your question on the offense, I'll defer to an expert.
  13. Now that is just horribly horribly wrong!
  14. Good point, but why go out of your way to seek out a recruit on the internet? Why take that chance? Being at a game is a little different.
  15. Hope you're not seriously doing this. Message from the Nebraska Athletic Department Compliance Staff which partially states... NCAA rules and regulations are complex to say the least, but one area that is completely straightforward is fan communication with recruits. If any fans, boosters, alumni (or any other supporters) of Nebraska has any contact (e.g., in-person, instant message, text message, e-mail, fax, etc.) whatsoever with a recruit there are could be serious consequences such as: The University of Nebraska would have an NCAA violation to report to the NCAA enforcement staff; The recruit would become ineligible to participate in athletics at Nebraska, and before any of our coaches could continue to contact the recruit, we would have to rule him/her ineligible and then seek reinstatement through the NCAA office; and The fan/booster/alumni involved could jeopardize their standing with the University of Nebraska athletic department.
  16. According to this link, he is!! Link ***Note to self, next time don't have the volume up so DAMN loud so I don't piss myself!*** hopefully no one in your house was trying to sleep. Back on topic, there is still a Makovicka on the team.
  17. depends - what's the team's record while you're in attendance?
  18. ND High School Athlete of the Year!! Former Williston High School athletes Rachel Hennessy and Brent Qvale have been named as the North Dakota High School female and male athletes of the year, as selected by the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. --cut-- sorry female athlete, no pub for you here --cut-- Qvale was also a three-sport athlete at Williston. He was an all-state selection as an offensive lineman in football. Qvale also averaged 20.1 points per game and 12.1 rebounds on his way to winning the title of Mr. Basketball. He was also a three-time state champion in the shot put for the Williston track and field team. Qvale is the first high school athlete in the state to win three shot put titles since 1904. "It feels good because of all the hard work I put into it," Qvale said of winning the athlete of the year award. The secret to his success is the time and effort that he puts into everything. "Hard work," he said. "Making sure you do things right and prepare yourself right." Others close to Qvale were just as pleased to see him recognized. "I'm very happy to see him win such an honor," said Williston High School football coach Todd Matthews. "It goes to show you the kind of effort, he put into it." Qvale is currently in Nebraska preparing for the upcoming football season as a member of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. "We're going to have a good team," he said. "We are in the second week of training and things are going well so far."
  19. Jayhawks - any truth to the rumor Briscoe is attending a JuCo over the summer?
  20. Good to know Hokieluv, thanks! When I bought the tickets, it just said "NU section" without any specifics as to where. Then, when I saw tickets on the Ticket Hippo site, there was generally the same thing, but some of them said, "GUARANTEED" to be in the Nebraska section. The ones I bought from a different site didn't have the word "guaranteed" next to it, so now I'm a little nervous. Oh well, we're going, that's all that counts. When we get the tickets I'll have to cross reference with your post so I'll at least know ahead of time.
  21. I wouldn't say they were busts, but I sure as hell got sick of hearing "John David Booty". God that irritated me more than anything on earth his last year. I guess they didn't want to keep saying just the word, 'Booty' all the time on tv, as if we might not know it was the QB. Something about having to say all 3 parts to someone's name is just overly irritating to me and I'm not really sure why. Of course, I also hate it just as much when people overly shorten and hyphenate a name, too. (Tay-Mart is an unacceptable form of Taylor Martinez in my eyes). Wait, how the heck did I get so off topic? Sorry, I got sidetracked on pet peeves. Back to potential championship talk.
  22. This site has links from the pinned schedule above to ticket hippo, which I would have known about earlier. I got tickets elsewhere for a little more money, and paid to sit in the Husker section. (I hope the place is reputable enough to actually send me tickets for the correct section). Direct link to VT tickets: http://www.tickethippo.com/ResultsTicket.a...ska+Cornhuskers
  23. I'd love to get this guy. Everytime I see a new post in this thread, I hold my breath before I open it that the news isn't that he committed somewhere else.
  24. What, no one mentioned the massive release of balloons after scoring the first touchdown? EDIT: hmm, image isn't showing up, so you'll have to go to the link directly: http://www.flickr.com/photos/alfredandwilson/2972696004/
