  1. I love frost and think he has a chance to do something special here, but for the most unpopular opinion (to some) not named Riley or Callahan is maybe Bo Pelini was a pretty good coach too.
  2. Made his top 5 awhile ago and now we have progressed to make his top 6. Hmm.
  3. I agree with wiscy having trouble with the outside zone/ qb power read action. It ate them up. I like how Austin is taking over some of the run game coordinating bc that stuff did not work against Iowa. We had more success running at them. Having some familiarity with our personnel and system combined with understanding opponent strengths and weaknesses could serve us well this year.
  4. Yep. Safety and apex players didn’t really have to respect our wr corps as receiving threats or blocking key screens. Play heavy run and make us beat you another way. Having a guy like manning outside and not having jack Stoll throw look out blocks on the perimeter should help this offense a lot.
  5. AM can run which helps our run game as much or more than accuracy on screen passes. TG would have died running this offense. That is probably why he left. That and AM is much better.
  6. This has a lot to do with how bad our WR were last year and lack of blocking on key screens. Once we start taking advantage of that it will be much easier to run inside zone.
  7. Hip. Hip. Hooray! Great news if true. Hope he gets on campus and is the real deal. Would like to see a local kid ball out for us so it will help in the future reeling in local athletes in the future.
  8. Yes, but I bet him and the other Qs have got together and went over quite a bit of football. Also if he is at home he probably is still having online meetings or at least a digital playbook. If HS coaches are doing this I would imagine colleges are too.
  9. luke will probably get some meaningful snaps next year. Smothers can play Luke role last year as an emergency backup but keep him under 4 games. Helps that smothers has already been on campus, so I would guess he has a decent grasp for the playbook already.
  10. This is exciting. Coach Rutledge making an impact already. Last couple seasons our Special Teams have been bad and helped cost us games. It would be nice to gain an advantage it that area. Looks like our Special Teams Ananlyst is fairing just as well on the recruiting trail as old 450K Bruce Read did. And Rutledge is technically not an official staff member. Excited to see how (if we have a season) we improve in those areas. It will increase our win total if we can turn the corner in that department. It also should help with the fact that we should have a lot of young bodies to pick from to field SP Teams and not have to worry about burning the youngsters Redshirts.
  11. It was predictable bc we had to do it at times to be effective. I watched the All 22 film of our offense last season and we could not block on the perimeter to save our lives. So many times it was there we would have 3 on 2 and we couldn’t take advantage of it. When we start hitting those key screens the box will be lighter and we won’t have to run the Q as much. But the Q needs to be able to run to keep Defenses honest but shouldn’t be the feature back.
  12. Vince young 6’5 235 Mariota 6’4 225 Trevor Lawrence 6’6 220 Joe Burrow 6’4 220 Herbert 6’6 235 I think all of those guys could run Frosts system and run it well. Moving forward hopefully we don’t have to run the qb bad much with an improving OL and better playmakers on the perimeter.
  13. True about Nash, but you can’t penalize a guy for the top Nose on our board being also recruited by Dawson. I think the staff was really high on Black. Much higher than what he was rated. Don’t know what Jucos we would have rather had, but not going to write him off yet. Like Riley’s body type. Payne looks quick off the ball and could help in the pass rushing department. It will be interesting to see how Green looks this fall.
  14. Nash and marquise Black? Like both of them. Filled some holes with jucos with Riley. I will not write him off yet.
  15. Nice!! Welcome Heinrich. GBR!!! Now we got are Q, he is usually the key in helping piece the class together. Let’s take a trip to Council Bluffs and get fidoNE on board.
  16. It’s a loss. I think he would rank last out of the 5 wr we signed last year. We don’t have any committed this year so I will hold off judgment. If we have a haul like we did last year I am fine. It hurts bc he is close, but he is not a wandale or manning piece of your class you will have trouble replacing.
  17. Not surprising but, Schaefer just switched his CB to Iowa. We will get someone as good or better than him, but hate to see him go to a fellow B1G school.
  18. You bet!! First steps like what you are talking about are very important for some offenses. The flex bone offense we ran in Hs was predicated on getting to the gap quick and making the defense make a quick decision. The RPOs out of the gun want to take time setting up.
  19. I have no problem with the hop. We teach kid to twitch, shuffle, press so we can slow them down at the mesh. Your aiming point is important but with the offense we run he will need to be slow to start so we can mesh and read defenders.
  20. Good question. I think the rating system doesn’t do a good job of ranking 3-4 OLB. They classify him as a DE where he might not fit best and is why scheme fit is an important element to keep in mind.
  21. Kid is a dog. Love how he plays the game. For a long kid he plays in space well. Tracks ball and moves well. Has a frame where he could be a boundary OLB or put his hand in the dirt at end. Seems to have a little ol school blackshirt attitude in him in film.
  22. You are entitled to feel like that. Don’t care about his ranking. We have been looking for players built like him for awhile and have not been able to land them. You can look at those 2 records or you can look how young we are and how close we are. Either way I guess. Some people are never happy. We could have a class loaded with good skill players and people will complain about where are the Lineman. We need to get better in the trenches. Well, this class we have 3 OL that we really wanted l, and 3 LBs which we desperately are in need of. Signing day is a long ways away. I will hold off judgments on the class until then.
  23. Heck yeah. Rare mixture of size, quickness, and has good lean to him. Get him in the weightroom and kid could be a monster. Oh, but wait we are terrible at recruiting and the sky is falling.
