  1. Hey guys...... I have been reading, but not posting for a while.... now that my high school football season is over, I am ecxited to get back to the Husker chat... Just my opinion on this..... My wife has noticed this, especially yesterday, and she was asking.. I have coached for 12 years now, and I catch myself doing similar things with my mouth.... I whistle a ton during the game to get players attention... I very freaquently, open my mouth to release "tension".... my jaws and face become tense during games, and this just "stretches" the joints and helps prevent head aches... Now, I am not saying my coaching is on the same level as BC, but I honestly do the same thing... maybe we are both mentally impaired
  2. I agree with the assessment of our O and D, and also with ISU's O and D. But anyone who thinks this game is a comfortable W, needs to take off the big red blinders and actually look at facts... I have traveled all around the country for many years watching NU and I am the biggest NU fan ever (just like most of you guys), but I have witnessed MANY, MANY games in Ames that were tight ball games, including quite of few recent defeats. I remember NU having far superior teams that "sneak" out of ISU with wins.... As far as video from last years game being proof........ Of course we rocked Meyer and left him inconsistant, it really had everything to do with Hicks being hurt... I am a football coach, but it doesn't take a lot of football knowledge to understand that if a team is ONE deminsional, the defense has a great advantage.... NU just pinned their ears back and went for broke..... If ISU had even an average running game last season, I am convince that NU would have been in trouble, even in Lincoln. I still see NU winning this game, but it will take an exceptional Defensive effort !!! Meyer is as dangerous as Taylor, Hicks (when healthy) is very good, ISU has 5 returning seniors on the OL, and Blythe is an All -American and better than any go to guy we have... We better be ready to score a lot of points in Ames.
  3. My thoughts and prayers are with the Ruud family..... Tragedies like this make people realize that football is ONLY A GAME.....Life and family is what it is what it is all about.
  4. Hey guys...... I haven't been on the board for a while.... I was trying to stay out of the lime-light as I contiplated retirement.... KC Husker called to inform me that my beloved Cubs were getting some flack on the board, so I had to push retirement back to a later date, and come out swingin.. I love the Cubs.... I hate the Cubs...... Anyone who follows this agonizing franchise knows exactly what I mean !!!! The problem is..... that damn Wrigley Field...... Until Hendry and company decide to spend $ and not be afraid to let Wood and Prior walk, the Cubs are always going to be looking up at the leaders...... Problem being (back to Wrigley) is that the stadium sells itself... the Cubs suck, yr after yr and fans like myself will still go to Chicago to watch..... It is all about $$$$$.... The Cubs make a ton of money each yr, without having to put a great team on the field.... Yes, we have had our moments (few and far between), but consistancy doesn't happen.... Yes, injuries have just killed this team, but I am tired of using that excuse yr afte yr..... Well, I had to pop in and talk a little Cub baseball.... I will continue to take a kick to the nuts everyday the Cubs play.....how about the 8 HR the stellar staff gave up yesterday...... Cub baseball..... you have to luv it !!!
  5. I agree with all assessments so far...... I personally think it needs to be addressed..... and after watching last night's game, I feel as if maybe Barry might be gone ! He just had the "look" of a lame duck coach..... We will soon find out.....
  6. I agree with you Kansas..... I am just saying that my post is how I believe that the "guys in charge" feel.... not the fans.... I would love to see NU in the NCAA year after year, but I just sense that Basketball isn't the priority (or even in the top 3) right now. I would list Football, Baseball, Volleyball definately ahead right now... In fact, track and wrestling spark almost as much fan interest... To me, the university feels that as long as basketball just doesn't create controversy, it will be okay..... * I would venture a guess that tomorrow's home opener at Haymarket on a friday at 2:00 may draw comparibly to most home basketball games.
  7. I am up in the air on whether or not I "want" this to happen or not..... KC and I talk a bit, and we are constantly changing our mind on this topic... This is MY OPINION: Collier will retain his contract and this is why: Nebraska is happy being a football school with baseball and volleyball being the other sports bringing in revenue.... Becuase baseball is becoming so big in Lincoln, I believe EVERYONE, including the Athletic department is looking at basketball as just something to pass the time between the 2 big seasons. Because of this, they will not spend the money to buy Barry out... all money right now is directed to fb... IMO, as long as Collier doesn't "embarrass" UNL drastically (by winning less than 10 games), he will be safe until his contract is up... I may be completely off of my rocker, but this is my opinion at this time... now after the tourney, and Collier is gone, I will say " thats what i thought"
  8. On offense, I am excited to see how an experienced Taylor plays and on defense, I am excited to see what Octavien can do the next couple of years.
  9. I would like to add: Matt Turman I believe coaches high school football at Scutt Catholic Chris Zyzda (starting left tackle '92 season opposite Shields) coaches football at Sargeant Bluff, Ia.... only know this because he is a former college roomie.
  10. Just a thought: Athough BC is the head coach, could he possibly be influenced by his assistants? Remember.....Watson and Gilmore are former CU coaches with extensive WCO experience.... If I remember correctly, they use Daniel Graham and Klopfenstien(sp) to just "kill" NU during the past seasons.... Both these guys "spread" the field under these two coaches...... Hopefully BC will at least listen to them.....

Heck, the "goat" probably just went 2 for 3 at the plate vs the Royals...... Just kidding......relax... He was only 1 for 3 ..... with a walk Okay..... I know that this got "off-topic"....don't strike me down... this is the last bb post on this thread.

    Super Bowl

okay.....maybe I should have said... I would like to see KC Husker put up some money against the Cubs making the series !!!!!! KC, when your in Vegas, make this bet so my baseball season will be more enjoyable this summer
  13. Nail on the head Pillen !!!!! IMO, both of the two in question will both be an integral part, with Wilson the dark horse. I really feel sorry for Brandon Jackson...He flashed ability, but injuries have really set him back... I hope for the best for BJ .... Hang tough BJ...

    Super Bowl

Sloppy, but good enough to be called "Super Bowl Champs" !!!! It wasn't the best game to watch, I'll admit that..... Rdfs were very poor also, but Seattle's inability to catch passes and manage the clock cost them big time. Pittsburgh's Defense bent, but didn't break...... Offense did just enough to win !!! Good enough for ME !!!! A special thanks from me to KC Husker..... Thanks for picking the Seahawks.... Now, if you could lay a load against the Cubs making the series, you would be the best pal ever!!!! Go Steelers..... Super Bowl Champs !!!!!

    Super Bowl

My beloved Steelers have one for the thumb !!!!!! Go Steelers.. Now, I am extemely happy that Pit won the game. Congrats to Coach Cowher.. He is a stud... Model NFL coach... And congrats to the Rooney family...The had the nuts to stick with Cowher all of these years.... But, I understand that some questionable calls went against Seattle.... I agree with that argument.... Ben did not score, there was NO HOLDING on the play that would have put Seattle 1st and goal, and the block called on Hasselback was bogus...... If I was a "michigan" oops, I mean "Seattle" fan, I would be whinning about calls.... I truly do feel as if Pittsburgh benefited from the refs......no argument here.. But, what a great run by Parker, great pass by Ben, great pass by Randel El (and the call by Wisenhunt).... Steelers Defense bent, but didn't break....only 10 points to a team that averaged 28 or so.. Big Ben played like it was his 1st Super Bowl... He very well could have cost them the game.....But, he season and 1st 2 years have been "historic".. Beating the #1 - #2 - #3 seed in AFC and #1 seed in NFC in consecutive games, no one can argue that Pittsburgh deserved the rings this season !
  16. I amnot down on either of these guys... This is a good problem to have... But, if some of you are "down" on Lucky becuase he "didn't see the field enough for being a 5* player".... That is wrong..... My goodness, maybe he didn't see the field due to the fact that we had a guy named Cory Ross.... Ross was pretty good at what he was asked to do..... So what if Lucky didn't make the impact of "Adrian Petersen"...... I think that some of you guys expected Lucky to be OUR Petersen.... Petersen didn't have to surplant an incumbant like Ross....( I may be wrong....when did Griffith grad.)..... Lucky needed time to learn and get up to D-I speed....... Glenn may very well be a stud.... Yes, he is powerful.....Yes, he was productive in the "role" that BC used him in.....Does that mean that he will be productive as the "feature" back...Not necessarily......Maybe he was not "type-casted" by the coaches, maybe they see stuff WE DON'T.... I know that may surprise a few of you, but I believe the coaches probably know if Glenn can "catch" the ball, or if he offers the "break away" speed, or the "elusiveness" it takes to be an everydown back.... I think that these two guys will "compliment" each other very well..... They will both be used a lot..... "the new "WE-BACKS"...... Kenny Wilson is a guy that both of these two may have to watch out for !!!
  17. A Van Poelgeest reference....classic I remember seeing this guy ride his bike around campus.... It was like a Pee Wee Herman bike....funny stuff...
  18. Nice article in the paper (Omaha) about baseball team.... Says Joba and Johnny look very good at this point... We need to establish depth in the rotation and many defensive positions are still up for grabs.... The warm winter so far should help the Huskers in the early season.. The team has been able to get outdoors more this year than in "normal" winters. Go Huskers.... Road to Omaha
  19. Question: How many "passing" downs or plays did Glenn play ? I am having trouble thinking of many plays, if any, that Glenn was in the game and NU threw the ball....... Lucky was in for a number of different sets, formations, and passing/running plays... As I stated earlier, Lucky if better suited to be the "feature" back, like Ross was... Lucky appears to be more versatile....... Glenn will get a lot of work between the tackles (8-12 plays a game)..... Lucky will carry and catch the ball approx. 20 times a game.... Pass blocking will be key.... Wilson is the unknown here..... He and Lucky will compete in the fall to be the feature.
  20. Just my thoughts: I believe that Lucky will be the feature RB.... (Sean Callahan from rivals stated that BC has already made this "comment" public)...... Glenn will be an 8-10 carry a game rb..... I am still confused why they moved L Jackson to the backfield..... it is probably because with BJ down, we only have 2 deep...... I see them using Leon as a Reggie Bush type of runner (NO, I am not saying he is Reggie).... Wilson will come is a make an impact.... The feature RB will be between Lucky and Wilson....whoever can pick up the blitz, pass protect, catch the ball will be the guy that leads this offense.... Glenn will be a nice "power" back and gets 10 carries a game as stated earlier.
  21. Not that I like to see anyone get into trouble and throw their ability away, but I can't say that it breaks my heart to see ISU have a few players bring bad pub to the program... Beig from Iowa, I have endured a lot of crap about the legal problems of NU's past, along with TO jokes about having players in trouble...... Now, the shoe is on the other foot, and Sir Dan Mac is having issues with his kids..... Just another "hit" to the defense that lost a ton to graduation....but this loss may be the biggest !!!
  22. I agree with a lot of your post, but I am not too worried about not getting a QB... Yes, it would have been nice to keep Freeman..... but only becuase he was a 4*.... at the point that he backed out, this staff didn't have enough time to land a potential "difference-maker"..... I think it was wise to not waste a scholly on an average qb to "only" sign one...... Crabtree said basically the same thing today... He thought NU was wise to not heavily pursue a qb just for the sake of signing one. Now, next year is a definite must to get a top-notch QB.... NO QUESTION.... As far as only having 2 scholly qbs.............. Taylor is an above average qb, and Beck is highly touted (more than anyone we would have signed)...... we will be okay this upcoming year.... and after that, Beck has the reins until the next highly recruited QB steps up..... Just like this year.....we had NO DEPTH, starting with a non-proven JUCO.... 8-4 is not NU's goal every year, but not bad considering the QB position at beginning.... I also think that Ganz will be a very capable backup 3rd string next yr, and maybe #2 after that..... I remember "the Turmanator" doing just enough to be adequate for a week or so..
  23. Solid B.... I agree with ETR..... This staff did a pretty good job..... Hate losing a few of these guys.... and hope that the one's that did sign, actually make it to campus..... All of the guys with grade issues could really turn this class into a very average to below average class if they don't qualify... I think finishing in the top 3 of the big 12 should rate as an above average grade, thus I gave them a B

Here's to: "Win one for the thumb" baby !!!!!! Hopefully my beloved Steelers can pull this one out..... I was very impressed with Seattle last weekend, and they pose tough challenge for the steel curtain.... The Seahawks are the #1 seed, have the starting pro-bowl QB, and MVP of entire league.....furthermore, Seattles front 4 on D lead the league in sacks/qb hurries.... If Pitt shows up like the last 3 weekends, I really like the chances, but the 2 week lay-off could kill momentum (as stated earlier by fat tire)..... My heart says : Pittsburgh 27 Seattle 23 Go Steelers * PS, everyone should know that KC Husker is a closet Steeler fan
