  1. Those who can't do, teach. Those who can't teach, teach gym. Just teasin man!
  2. I agree with the entire post ! Those 3 coaches would be fine, but I really want...... Bo Pelini JUST KIDDING, JUST KIDDING , but that sure is funny isn't it? But on a serious note, I think that some day in the near future, you will see a young , unproven, head caoch make a big name for himself, and that guy is Marvin Sanders (now at NC) I thought he did a great job here, and will someday be a very good one..... I am satisfied with Billy C..... we need to give him time, before we make unjust decisions.
  3. No thin skin HERE ! I was smilin' the whole time ! I am still not appreciative of the media's reaction to BC and lack of reaction to USC
  4. Sorry guys, I don't want to jinx the 'skers, but I am home with a sick child for the 2nd straight day and I am bored off of my a$$...... As I am browsing the net, I see that many of the so-called "experts" have included the Huskers into their "Bowl projections"..... ESPN: Nebraska vs Tennessee in Independence Bowl Nebraska vs TCU in Independence Bowl CBSsportsline: Nebraska vs Georgia Tech in Champs Sports Bowl Fox: Nebraska vs Boston College in Champs Sprts Bowl Football.com: Nebraska vs South Carolina in Houston Bowl I like the postivie thinking here !!!! I don't recall seeing KSU in any of the projections Personally, I like the idea of going to the Independence and seeing the 'skers once again beat a Volunteer team or maybe going to Houston to whip another Spurrier team ( just had to relive the good ol' days a bit Seriously, I would like to see, and I predict that NU will be in Orlando at the Champs Sports Bowl.... Once we become "eligible" , Champs will lock NU on their radar, knowing NU fans travel well, and are dying to travel after last yr. Bring on GT or BC
  5. Thank you for the insight Nameless The "reasons why NU doesn't win" are a big concern. Can't really disagree with anything listed. Although, the "reasons why NU will win" could possibly include........... ( I do not have any stats to back me, so I am talking out of my a$$) 1. special teams...... Punts and returns could help NU win field position 2. The ability of the blackshirts to stop the run, when not playing a running QB 3. KU may have a "let down" after the emotional "high" vs Missouri 4. KU "pressing" to get bowl eligible..(wont beat Texas).. may play tight
  6. I am an elementary/secondary teacher who works with kids all day,..... he may have meant "I HAVE HAD IT UP TO HEAR", and drew a line across his neck.. Then you should be able to spell. It's here not hear. My bad..... I was trying to type quickly and I was pissed at the media. By the way, I am a P.E. teacher.... I don't need to spell
  7. As much as I agree with most of what you have written, I totally DISAGREE with the end of the post You can not logically make a coaching change at this point... A change would set the program back another 3-4 years.. Experts say that BC should receive 3-4 years to get the system established with proper players to run the WCO. He is still using a number of guys who came to NU to run-block, block 1st-catch 2nd.... plus, the guys whom BC recruited to run his system are only in their 1st year of D1 football. If you bring in another coach, you probably lose most, if not all, of this staff, who by the way recruit their a$$ off.. and now you have a new coach that brings in his "own system" and philosophy, and once agian, the players that BC recruited may not fit..... Can't you see the vicious cycle that will begin if you start changing coaches without giving them the proper amount of time It is funny that last year, everyone acknowledged that Husker Nation needed to be patient, and all of us agreed to some point....but, wow, it is easier to say be patient, than to ACTUALLY BE PATIENT !!!!
  8. Sure hoping it's 2, but my logic says 1 It has to be KU or KSU , because it isn't going to happen in Boulder. I think NU has a better chance to beat KU, but it is on the road.... KSU seems to have NU's number (recently), but it is in Lincoln.... We will win one or both of these two !!!! * If we beat KU, then all the pressure of "eligibiltiy" is off and we roll over a struggling KSU team * If KU wins, KSU will be a struggle, but hopefully home field will matter
  9. Not a bad question, but you DEFINATELY do NOT play Beck this year !!! Taylor is doing fine.....Hell, he absolutely has no time to set his feet most of the time..... When he does put the ball on the money, there has been many dropped passes... Yes, Talor has missed open WR, and doesn't always see the field like he should, but remember, this is his 1st season at DI.. This kid is "spunky", and is a "warrior"... He is one of the toughest guys we have had, and he NEVER points fingers at the OL or anyone else !!! He also doesn't shy away from taking the blame or answering tough questions Taylor acts like he has been a Husker forever....He is proud to be here and believes in the system.... He is not the reason the 'skers are struggling !!!!! As for Beck....he will be good ( I hope), based only on hype To waste a red-shirt this late in the season would make about as much sense as wasting Leon Jackson for spotting special teams appearences or Chris Brooks for a few minor plays early in the season when he wasn't healty If Taylor gets hurt and we are NOT yet bowl eligible and are in a Winnable situation, then, and ONLY then would you even consider playing Beck
  10. That's what I'm lookin for Numero !!!! The media can have their fun now, because the 'skers won't stay down long
  11. 1st of all, BC's gesture on the sideline doesn't bother me at all !! I am an elementary/secondary teacher who works with kids all day, and I coach football..... I did not and will not take "offense" to BC's gesture...... As he said, he may have meant "I HAVE HAD IT UP TO HEAR", and drew a line across his neck.. Watching ESPN this evening, a few reporters balsted BC and once agian NU is casted in a negative light...more bad pub and haters from ESPN On the other hand, Pete Carroll can stage and arguement with Lindell White, and White can go to the roof of a nearby building and put on a big scene about how he is going to "commit suicide", followed by him throwing a fake "Lindell White" body from the building. Now, on an ESPN program, both national reporters found nothing wrong with this "trick" on Halloween... I personally do not have a problem with it either. As we all know, it doesn't seem right though, that BC can get drug through the mud for a geture, but Pete Carroll can fake a suicide in public and "it's great that he has a sense of humor".... What about the poeple, players, and fellow coaches who may have known someone who has actually taken their own life.... Do you think that they thought the prank was funny ????? Hell, if BC would have pulled this stunt at NU, reporters would be trashing NU for making a joke out of "suicide".....but since it is USC, everything is right with the world. Like I said, I have a good sense of humor, and neither of these things really bother me, but I am pissed that the National Media is so hypocritical... Does anyone else agree or disagree
  12. I don't always agree with what you post, but this time you have hit the nail. As I have mentioned before, I coach fb for a profession... In the last 10 yrs., we have posted very good records with "above average" athletes, and the local fans thought I was a very good coach..... In the past three yrs., we have posted below .500 records with "marginal athletes", and now I am an idiot !! I feel as if I am a better coach now with a losing record, than I was back when I first started and was winning. This leads me to believe that the Talent Level is the most important aspect in winning.. (Then again, maybe the "above average" athletes just made a bad coach look good in my case ) At the Div I level, all athletes can play and all coaches can coach or neither would be where they are.... But I still think that RECRUITING and having the talented players makes a huge difference.
  13. I am not ready to call BC a LOSER, but he hasn't proved to me that he is a WINNER either !!!!! Stats don't lie, and I agree with almost everything said on this thread..... I am hoping that we still have inferior talent, and if BC and company are able to continue recruiting some of the top players that we will see results... BC's game planning sucks, but at least I see some "in-game" adjustments, which we did not see with the last staff !!!!! I am on the fence on this "loser" thing.... I'll take a wait and see approach
  14. Good points KC I agree that there is progress in relationship to the competition.... We have played a number of teams better than last season. What my concern is.... I am not seeing the progress within our own team... The OL has "regressed"...... and the play calling is still under question. With that said, I like your optimism KC, and I'm with you man !!!! I still think we can win at least 2 of the next 3 and go bowlin'
  15. Not a good team at all !!!! I didn't agree with the whole "firing-hiring" process, but that is old news... I whole-heartedly was willing to give BC and crew the benefit of the doubt, and realize it takes time.... but this team may actually be worse than last years.... The OL, which was decent last year, is horrible this year !!!!! WR are not much better.....Taylor offers a little more than Daily, but not much... Special teams are much better DB/CB are worse (not good at all) DL is improved The whole game planning and consitantly making "dumb" calls during the games pi&&es me off.... (Pass 3 times from 2 yd line, pass on 4-1, call a block FG vs a 40 yder into gusty wind) I am a patient guy, but I'm beginning to wear thin..... We are not good, and I don't see a change anytime soon !!! Maybe Lucky, Brooks, Beck, Jackson, and company will change my opinion
  16. I honestly believe that the outcome of the KSU game depends directly on this weekends game against KU... If NU wins, the pressure of the "bowl eligible" is off and they can relax and let it hang loose against KSU and NU will roll at home If NU loses this weekend, I feel that BC and company will be so "tight" at home vs KSU, that we probably will not win.. the whole "bowl eligible" pressure will get to the big red, knowing that they are outmatched at CU WE will be either 7-4 or 5-6....depending on the KU game
  17. I don't like the call at all !!!! The % of blocking a kick are LOW, especially 2 in one game..... I understand that it happened at PIT..... If BC was paying attention, in pre-game and at half, our kickers absolutely could not kick into the South end anywhere beyond the 25 yd line... A 40 yarder into that wind has almost NO chance a being successful, and OU was not going to take the chance of NU getting the ball at decent field position.. Having guts is great, but having a sense of the situation is another Now, I was impressed with BC after the game....he shouldered a ton of the blame... I know that he is trying to protects his guys and I respect that..... I am a football coach, and I have always said.... Win we win, it is because of the players, and if we lose, I will shoulder the blame.... It is nice to see BC protect his kids
  18. Being aggressive yes, but being "smart" is another thing.... You can't honestly tell me that BC didn't consider OU faking that kick... It was a 40 yarder into a tremendous wind.... Hell, I was yelling fake from row 94.... I understand that NU has been very successful at blocking kicks, but reality says that the odds are LOW that you are going to block a kick in any game, let alone 2 in one game..... ( I know Pit)...
  19. Okay guys, I haven't been replying lately, but I have been readin'. I am a high school football coach who has had many successful seasons, but this year, we have a "little" talent and we are gettin' smoked....Consequently, I am geting drug under the bus by guys who "Think" they know football.... Now with that said, I get my shot to question BC ( ) Knowing that he definately knows a hell of alot more than I What a great win yesterday !!!! We couldn't have aksed for a better "improvement" of offensive yardage production..... and the blackshirts did a good job of pressuring Meyer. Now, I am still not expecting 8-3, 7-4, etc..... The jury is still out REASONS: 1. You need to RUN the ball effectively, regardless of what the defense is giving you. Yes, it worked yesterday, but if only 1-2 of those key catches hit the ground, the results would be different. 2. The blackshirts did a nice job, but remember that ISU didn't have Hicks. He is a very good player, and that made ISU pretty one-deminsional....What would have happened if the D couldn't pin back their ears and come hard like they did. 3. We do not have a consistant kicking game....Yes, Koch is great....but Congdon, although his % is okay, has missed 3 very big FGA..... and This is TWICE in the last two games that we have kicked the damn ball out of bounce after BIG score !!!!! 4. I love Ross, but where is Lucky.... will this kid stay around if we are only going to run the ball a "handful" of times..... He can easily see how his hometown Trojans are using reggie bush (Heisman)....and Lucky could transfer and "redshirt" and not lose eligibiltiy.... only because BC has WASTED his redshirt..... How about Cody Glenn, watsted "shirt".... Insided the 10 a few times...and never see him.....only 3-4 carries this year????
  20. Common sense tells me that the damaged knee would be a great "excuse" or reason to redshirt this guy. He needs to get stronger, and this would let him get a good grasp of the playbook If he is hampered by a sore knee, behind because of reps, he very well could get lost in the shuffle by early/mid season and waste a year !!!!! on the other hand, the negative side would be that this kid needs football to keep his mind occupied....remember, he has a girlfriend and child 6-7 hours away..Wouldn't want him to have a lot of time to "feel sorry" for himself because of the injury and get homesick
  21. so many great things about gameday..... 1. Back in the day, it was going to sidetracks on friday night with buddies 2. Taking long walks to the game chanting Go Big Red 3. Partying afterwards at buddies houses late into the night celebrating Now that I am "matured" (age only) a little.... 1. Tailgating with friends before game.....ANTICIPATION for kickoff 2. Going down under stadium to watch players exit field after warmups 3. Rushing back to seat for tunnel walk 4. Jumping around and high-fiving whole section after big play 5. Meeting with buddies at half to discuss "game plan" for second half IT IS BIG RED FOOTBALL....IT IS PRICELESS
  22. i agree.....don't be surprised if both aren't on the field at the same time.. I predict that one will move to the other side, soon.... Tierre is a nice addition....gives depth and maybe a solid player in the nickel.... I hope Tierre is successful, it is a good story to see a kid make an unselfish move to better the team...
  23. Congrats to Rob !!! We will really miss his ability to develop pitchers in the future, but the guy had a "no-brainer" to go home and be a HC at an insitution with tons of cash flow..... Thanks a million for everything that he has done for this university and team, and all the best to him at A-M, except when the 'skers are in town.... Now we will see if Anderson can coach....personally, I think that he can....yes, he may have "over-coached" in the CWS, but the guy can get the kids to play for him. He will bring in the right coach to help fill the void, and NU will continue to grow in baseball..... As for the CWS next year, it is a shot, but who knows.... It is so hard to get here..... Good luck to Rob and next years Huskers
  24. I started this topic with really no strong opinion one way or the other.... We have had good opinions....... If I was forced to make the final call, I would probably say give Barry one more year.... Earlier, I was leaning towards making a change..... NO, the win over OSU didn't sway me.....Sh**, you could almost predict that one coming..... My wife's occupation allows her to have meetings with very prominant people inside of the UNL athletic department..... (former athletes), and she met with a former player who still plays a very prominant role within the athletic dept.... During the conversation with him, he stated that Collier is top notch and runs a top notch program..... (but he still needs to win).... it was stated that Barry is one of the most respected person within the department...... I respect this former players opinion and with that being said, I am leaning my opinion towards keeping him one more year......but he better win !!!!!!! This same athlete, went on to bash the football team and say that the program is a complete MESS..... He is not a BC or Cosgrove fan at all, and says many players very unhappy.....says things are not even close to being "solid", especially compared to the "glory years" when he was involved. Take it for what it is worth
  25. Let me start by saying that I am NOT an Andy Birkel fan... I think that he wasn't going to live up to home-grown expectations, so instead of disappointing the home folks, he quit and blasted the program......kinda "saving face".... BUT, the kid messed up.......SO WHAT Is anyone surprised that a minor ran from the cops, and oh my goodness, he was drinking alcohol...... Sounds a lot like most of the high school kids I went to school with, and now teach.....Also sounds like almost every college party I attended.... Give the kid a break.......although.....he only outran the cops for a block?????, what happened to the "Break away speed" he was going to showcase?? HA I don't think that you can lable Birkle as "Franks" guy or anyone as the "Coach's guy".....Yes, Kids represent the program and coach, but kids will mess up... I absolutely love TO, but if I remember right, he had a number of players that didn't always do the right thing.....NO ONE CHASED HIM OFF !!!!
