  1. Ehlers is definitely a talented kid to build around. We actually have some decent young arms, which we sorely need. Lemke looked good last year too, before the season began to slip away from everyone and I just stopped paying attention.
  2. Would you look at that? Huskerboard has begun making early BBall game threads. That alone should say something about the direction of the program, or at least, the season. I can't believe I can say this, but it's a good time to be a Husker Hoops backer.
  3. As far as the OP goes... We know it's you, Gilmore. You can quit pretending. I personally think it's cool you acknowledge you suck as a WR coach and still want to work at NU. Good luck finding that desk job.
  4. For those who watched the entire game, what did you think of Diaz's night? I saw only about 10 min of the game (real time, not game time) on the eliptical at the gym tonight. He had quite a few "finesse" points that required decent skill, and looking at the box score, he wound up with 14 points. Not a bad night. We all know power ain't his game, so maybe we'll have to settle with those finesse points from him. Better than nothing. I will say one thing, the bigs rebounding really is atrocious. Those who started a thread about it earlier in the season had fears that were entirely founded. Ubel, Almeida, and Diaz combined for 41 minutes and FIVE BOARDS. That is absolutely terrible. I haven't watched enough to know whether the system we run is part of the problem, but it can't be that big of a problem. Diaz should have 5 boards automatically just by virtue of being the tallest guy on the court. What do you guys think of this?
  5. GREAT breakdown GKFB... Well done. You made it easy to understand, even for an idiot like me. Only thing is... weird place to put it. Why is all this in Spock's recruiting profile? (refer to Scout photo gallery of Sarao if you don't understand. Off topic, but holy hell, that may be the queerest (oddest) haircut I've ever seen, in his main Scout picture). Luckily, I check every new recruiting post cuz I'm such a loser.
  6. This kid is exactly the type of gem that comes out of the process if you wait around long enough... But with that being said, I'm very glad we have a shot at him. Though he's still uncommitted, he looks to be a stud and would fit in nicely at NU. Let's hope we can erase some of that heavy FSU lean.
  7. We do have an identity. One of an offense that consistently craps itself and kills the team.
  8. I've seen some improvement, but not enough to say that I'd like our chances if Cody was the starter for the next two years. I think he may haver regressed a bit. His confidence is just not there. The kid looked like a deer in head lights last night. I dont know the offensive coaches do inpractice with those QB's, but it HAS TO CHANGE. You know who looked like a deer in the headlights last night? Martinez, every time he got flattened by a Washington D-lineman. In fact, I told my dad that same thing during the game. And it's the exact phrase I used to describe him in the CCG. So that makes two games in a row now Taylor's eyes grow as big as saucers and his feet turn to stone as he gets sacked over and over again. With his mobility, there's no excuse. Now, I personally believe our OLine got manhandled last night. You could see them whiffing on their blocks, and Caputo got owned on that sack they showed a replay of. But Taylor should not step up into a sack. Now, I'm a bit spoiled, because my other team is the Eagles and Vick knows how to evade sacks. But you don't have to be that mobile to get away from them. Even Tony Romo does that gay little loop to the left to evade sacks. The said thing is, Taylor is closer to Vick than Romo, and he still doesn't get away. Does anybody think maybe Taylor tears it up in practice, falsely raising confidence in him as a starter, then sh*ts himself in the games? That would at least explain Bo and Wats' insistence on starting him. Also, one thing I noticed last night. I appreciate the fact that Cody Green knows how to scramble and Taylor doesn't. Cody, on the safety play, stepped up INTO A POCKET (Taylor doesn't get this concept), waited for a gap to open up between the DE and DT, and took off through there, at a 45 degree angle... Traveling both laterally and forward. Taylor tries to loop around the outside of our tackles, letting the ends disengage our tackles and the defense time to react and close the field on him. WEAR RED. BE LOUD. BEAT BARNEY COTTON, TED GILMORE, AND SHAWN WATSON WITH A NINE IRON AND THEN REFILL THEIR POSITIONS.
  9. Chicago Website retracts rumor that Tressel is gone after season. Apparently, they had the rumor wrong. Jim Tressel is retiring, however, tOSU is retaining the sweater vest and it will coach next year.

  10. Not sure if true... I'll reserve judgment until this story hits ESPN and the other major news sources. If true, this will definitely be an interesting offseason. It is well known that Ohio State is the only other position that actually has more ties for Bo than NU. It is the biggest threat to poach him out there, regardless of the rules dictating intra-Big 10 coaching changes, and I'm seriously interested to see how he approaches the Buckey gig when it does eventually become available.
  11. eh. JPP played D-line and was drafted to play d-line. He's 6'5" and if i remember correctly blew the doors off at the combine. David's situation is a bit different. He's a beast, but frankly he's an oddball. He works in Bo's defense and against JUCO competition, but whether he can or can not (and I believe he can), his size is a HUGE issue--he is not going to be drafted as a 1st or second round professional linebacker. So who's gonna draft him as a first or second round safety when thats not what he played? He's a full blown project, and there are a lot more guys like him out there than a 6'5" dude. He's got too many question marks compared to JPP. Well, to be honest, there wasn't much depth to my argument to begin with. I just wanted to make a real basic point about how they both have played one year of D1 ball out of JUCO. I agree, though. David doesn't have prototypical LB size at this point, and he'll be able to add some bulk in the offseason, but will still be on the tiny side for a backer. He's just not a physically huge guy. He wouldn't get drafted very high this year if he went out, even with some AA accolades. He has, however, proven he's a baller, and I think he could go pretty high next year if he bulks up some and continues to be a force in the Big 10, especially if he proves he can hold up and both produce AND stay healthy against some power running teams like Wiscy and Iowa.
  12. This kid's head has to be about ready to explode. I am glad I am not in his shoes. College was a hard enough decision for me, minus the pressure of athletics.
  13. It's not the fact that he commited to arkansas its the fact that he waited to decommit after several months of being commited to NU,that is just a bunch of horse crap I would rather have him pull an OWA on us then to stay commited to us and then pull the Trigger on arkansas late in the recruitng process. If you are not commited to playing football for Nebraska then do not "Commit" to us. You're telling me you've never changed your mind on a decision? Especially one as life changing as this one? And it'd be one thing to swap to an Auburn or an Oregon because they're in the limelight right now and a kid could think he could get fame and championships there faster than other places. But Tevin made his switch to be closer to family and be more comfortable. I can't fault him for that, even if it does set NU back, which I love like nothing else. Now, as for the questionable recruiting tactics employed by the SEC... that's another thing.
  14. This is like an early Christmas present! This dude is a stud, we got really lucky hooking him and Yoshi last year (although I still think back and feel kind of bad for that DT that visited with them... it must suck to visit and know you're the guy WITHOUT the offer), and he should make the transfer to the Big 10 a heck of a lot easier next year. MmmTodd, as for your argument for leaving school as a JUCO guy who's played one year of D1 ball... Worked out for Jason Pierre-Paul, huh?
  15. Wade came in as a safety, correct? Interesting he'd win co-offensive POY. As a WR, I assume?
  16. +1 Cmon guys, let's not tear into this kid like he just stabbed the Pope or something. He was wavering, rethought his decision, and made the one that was best for him. Granted, it wasn't NU, which sucks because we lose a good prospect and he's losing the clearly superior coaching, but he's doing what he needs to do to be best for him. It's his life, let him live it I guess my message is more along that lines of "Let's not be Shaggybevo and be total buttholes who all deserve a punch to the face." We're better than that.
  17. http://nebraska.statepaper.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2010/12/16/4d0a3803e3378 NEBRASKA FOOTBALL: Husker Scout-Teamer Turning Heads Bell's speed gives NU secondary headaches By Samuel McKewon December 16, 2010 Ask Nebraska's Blackshirts to identify a few offensive scout team players who have given them fits throughout this year, and one freshman wide receiver emerges quickly from the pack. “Kenny Bell,” NU cornerback Prince Amukamara said. “Oh man, that guy can fly. He's one of the fastest guys on the team. That guy can catch it. He's very swift.” Faster than Prince, generally regarded as one of the Huskers' sprint champs? Amukamara's pause says enough. “He's kind of like Taylor Martinez in terms of acceleration,” Amukamara said. “But Kenny can keep accelerating.” A 6-foot-1, 170-pounder from Boulder, Colo., Bell is easily identifiable off the field by his slender build, quick smile, big hair and the old-school bikes he loves to ride. A rack sits outside the Hawks Championship Center, and recruiting reporters who best know Bell – who can't talk to the press here until he plays in a game – can immediately pick out his bright, stylish bike from the pack. On the practice field, Bell sat out much of fall camp nursing a hamstring injury. While Nebraska coaches figured out which true freshmen would play in 2010 – only wide receiver Quincy Enunwa, cornerback Ciante Evans and guard Andrew Rodriguez did – Bell rode a different kind of bike: The gray, stationary one that sits under one of the giant awnings in Hawks. “Once he got healthy, they've been raving about him every since,” wide receivers coach Ted Gilmore said. Why? “He just goes all-out every play,” Peso Eric Hagg said. “No matter what. The blocking, the running, the catching. Everything. He's all-out focused.” Hagg said Bell caught “whole bunch of touchdowns” on Nebraska's top-flight secondary. “And we're actually trying to stop this guy,” Hagg said. Bell, who picked Nebraska over schools like Texas Tech, Minnesota, Arizona State and California, could be a threat as a kick and punt returner, too. After a boffo 2009 with Niles Paul filling both roles, Paul's production tailed off in 2010 aside from a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown at Oklahoma State. After Paul got hurt, Brandon Kinnie and Tim Marlowe were serviceable kick returners, but not explosive. Rex Burkhead's primary job at punt returner was simply to field the ball. “I'm anxious to see what he can do in the return game,” Gilmore said. This fall, Gilmore didn't work much with Bell beyond position drills. But when he recruited Bell in late 2009 – after another recruit, Curtis Carter, switched his verbal commitment from NU to TCU – he saw a kid with rare speed and quickness – if a slight penchant for getting hurt. Bell missed most of his senior season at Boulder's Fairview High School with a broken collarbone. He then arrived in Lincoln with the hamstring injury. So while Bell's gained 10 pounds this fall, Gilmore said he still needs to add more – and retain his speed in the process. Hagg doesn't expect it to be a problem in the spring. “That would be just be crazy for him not to play,” Hagg said. “He actually beats us. He does amazing things on us."
  18. One of my good high school friends who goes to Iowa told me that the news that the police found a laptop with names of customers on it at DJK's house is legit, and therefore the ESPN report where Ferentz said their drug testing "might be flawed" makes sense. He was basically saying a lot of the players really did get their stuff from DJK and that they cheated on the drug tests, and that was that. Apparently that's cool in Hawkeye land. Seems really dumb to me. Also, this same friend and I are good friends with a redshirting offensive tackle for the Hawkeyes that also went to school with us, and apparently the lineman confirmed Wegher wants to come to NU. Doesn't make any sense to me, if Iowa's AD did in fact say he couldn't transfer here. USD makes more sense to me. But if somebody on the team says it's true... Take it FWIW.
  19. I'm a little dissapointed in Yoshi's development. Like Green at QB, I wonder how much of their lack of development lands on the coaching. I though for sure Yoshi was going to clog a huge lane in pass blocking - but we didn't see him much this year. Disapointing. Surely not all on Cotton, but makes me wonder. Keep in mind that Yoshi busted his hand in the preseason. I was really disappointed to hear that when the news came out, since the battle for LT was one of the competitions I was personally most interested in. Too dang bad... definitely put him in a bind to start his career. While that may have been cause to cede the starting job to Sirles early, one would think he would've found his way on the field eventually... A lot sooner than he did. Again, too bad he couldn't have seen more PT this year.
  20. Well neither are Quincy or Ciante. So I guess the whole thread is now bogus. Sorry, I didn't look back far enough to see those guys mentioned. Just fooling around man... They're all gonna be good ones. At least we're in a position to think so many young guys are going to step up and help our team a lot in the near future, as opposed to having a ton of unknowns (and I remember many years where that was the case). In the up and coming years he will be our Desean Jackson (spelling). This is exactly the kid that I want on our football team as well. Really want to see this kid get in on KR. Nailed the spelling EZ. Is Bell really that good? Hopefully you're not just making the comparison for the sake of making one... He could help us a lot if that is the case. If so, he really flew under the radar.
  21. Andrew's not a RS freshman though. Yeah, I nitpicked.
  22. This is frequently used to defend Watson as well. But remember, prior to our two QB's getting hurt we played through our cupcake non-conference schedule. We had played the #69,NR,#84,NR,#106,#7,#90 ranked defenses. We lost one of those when our offense flat out didn't execute. Guess which game it was? The other 6, you'd expect us to win even if the offense was just downright bad. The 1st quarter of the MU game was definatley MU's worst defensive performance on the season...then we went stagnant on offense after they adjusted. What followed that game was the #88,#99,#51,#82,#58 defenses. I don't have to tell you which 2 games we lost there. It's easy to figure out...it was against the best 2 defenses in the stretch. We played some BAD BAD defenses this year. I don't know how that compares to years past...but our conference wins came against 106,90,42,88,99,82. That's pretty bad. A few of those would be comparable to Consgroves 2007 defense. Blame the season on our QB's getting hurt, but IMO we would have finished in a VERY similar position w/ them. We could have scored at least once more against A&M and won that game, I agree. But, we still lose to Texas/OU. Taylor wasn't that hobbled against OU, and the loss certainly wasn't because of he wasn't 100%. I don't know - regarless we need a change. Oh...and This Givens kid looks solid - give him a few years. MAJOR upside w/ this one. Agree about Price... Gotta love smart, developing lineman. He's only 16 and he's 270! And, I agree about the change needed. If I can sum up our offense in two sentences: Regardless of what argument you want to make to defend it, our offense has taken on the personality of one that absolutely craps itself any time it plays a good defense. It also likes to play Jekyll and Hyde when facing decent (not bad, not good) defenses, so it's always 50/50 who'll show up there. In my mind, a coaching change would be the best way to fix this.
  23. The next Brandon Rigoni perhaps? I loved Rigoni, but I think that everyone would agree that Rigoni could definately not contribute to a Blackshirt defense now a days. He was well deserving of being the special teams captain, but you don't go on the recruiting trail looking for a special teams captain. I don't know about that. Not usually one to disagree with you, EZ-E, but I do recall hearing a USC segment once on the radio where the guys were talking about Rigoni and how a lot of the guys on the team back in his day would've told you Rigoni was one of the best athletes on the team, period, and one of the most athletic guys they'd ever seen. Now, I know athleticism doesn't necessarily translate into production, but I think if Bo were to utilize him right, he could've helped out a bit. Now, you should probably just ignore an argument about this coming from me... Rigoni was quite a bit before my time. Back when he was playing, I was little ADD husker fan that had a hard time sitting through a full game. Still bled NU red though! GBR!!! Also, I suppose I'd like to apologize if I offend anybody that actually has ADD. You see, the thing is
