  1. I forgot totally forgot about Rickey. Hopefully, Osborne or Cassidy will step up next year and clearly claim the spot opposite PJ, if he does indeed lock one down. If not, let the younger guys go at it.
  2. I'd say Corey will not see PT this year. With Gomes and West looking like the starters, we face the same situation as last year, we will lose both of them at the end of this year. And that leaves us with PJ and Cassidy as starters next year, as a JR. and SR., respectively. Even though Corey is thought to be more of a SS, I could see him pushing either of those guys, more likely Austin, for a spot next year, along with Courtney Osbourne and possibly Jackson. I'd rather have Corey and Harvey both redshirt this year, because then they'd just be around longer and the longer guys are around in this D, the better the understand it. Once things finally click, these guys can finally reach their potential. Safety breakdown next year: SR- Cassidy JR- Smith, Osbourne RsFr- Jackson, Cooper (hopefully) Edit: Cassidy is a white guy? Took me by surprise when I saw his profile on Huskers.com
  3. I wouldn't bet against Lee at this point. Nothing we've heard from anyone says he's not doing well. Paul (or was it Kinnie?) was saying that Lee was rocketing the ball in camp. Unless he gets bit by the injury bug we've contracted, expect him to be the starter. Well, prepare for another season of fruitless option plays. If he can pass, we'll take it.
  4. Mitch Sherman said on Schick & Nick that some of Ekeler's friends were at practice yesterday and went straight to the media afterwards. I am under the impression that at least one former player has been posting practice impressions on Red Sea Scrolls. There are two big no-no's when you go to practice: 1. Don't report any injury news before the coaches have had a chance to address the media. 2. Don't go posting information on practice on message boards or social network sites. Wow, could you imagine a standoff between Bo and Ek? I know it's happened in the games sometimes when Bo gets mad at him, but there's probably a smoking crater on the practice field where those two had words.
  5. We need to get this kid. Seriously. He's one of maybe three big time receiver prospects looking at us. I'd really like to get a serious receiver instead of settling for a sleeper, but... Quincy has seemed to work out so far, so...
  6. True that, man. Besides Green, Rob was my fav running back from this class. Iowa State might be stealing another Stevie Hicks here... RIP Stevie...
  7. Cheers, man. It is always fun to watch Texas lose out on a recruiting battle. One dude over on ShaggyBevo was talking about how foreign losing out on battles is for them. It's just fun to watch a team that usually fills up by August lose out on someone they want. They dont have near the same success out of state as they do in state. They did snag a good one last year with that LB from Ohio, but other than that they definately are not the recruiting juggernut on a national scale as they claim to be. Even though they may not recruit nationally as well as they say they do the problem lies in the fact that they don't have to. Texas has to much talent in the state. Recruiting nationally is not a concern for them in reality. Agreed, man. They hardly ever even try to look outside state lines, unless they REALLY want a kid from outside Texas. However, I'd bet part of the reason they don't go out of state is the fact that out of state kids know that Texas chokes in the big game. The last time they won the big one was 2005, and I have a hard time thinking they would've even been in that game if not for Vince Young's ridiculous legs. That was an exciting game, btw. Anyway, they failed to win last year, and I think on a national scale, people just view Texas as "chokers." The same with the other B12 South power, OU. Think about it- last seven bowl games = 2-5 with narrow victories over Stanford and Oregon. And no one remembers the wins. They remember the OT loss to Boise State, the ineptitude they showed against WVU, the MNC loss two years ago to Florida, and way USC absolutely embarrassed them, even with Heisman winner Jason White leading the way. 8. Marcel always seems to have the upper hand on D.J. on the right side, but I was kind of hoping Yoshi would win out at LT. Big old road grader, lots of intensity. Figured he could definitely help bring some mean to our offensive line, but oh well, if Sirles earns the job, he should have it. Perosnally, I'd be really happy with either of these guys.
  9. I like Mickey as a prospect but I'm a little worried about him as far as our chances go., He seems a bit prima donna-y. If he likes UCLA better than us, winning football games is clearly not his first priority. Methinks this guy is all about having a good time and making it to the league (wants to be frosh All American to boost exposure).
  10. Cheers, man. It is always fun to watch Texas lose out on a recruiting battle. One dude over on ShaggyBevo was talking about how foreign losing out on battles is for them. It's just fun to watch a team that usually fills up by August lose out on someone they want.
  11. Good luck with Steward Cacti. If you guys could snag a man child like that, it would really help your defense. Nice offensive commits so far... working hard to replace Spiller eh?
  12. The teaser on Rivals got me thinking. With nothing much else to discuss til the season gets here, why not discuss the perceived position battles going on? Apparently, Yoshi and Jeremiah have been duking it out pretty admirably for the starting left tackle spot. Also, on second thought, Marcel and D.J. Jones always compete pretty well at right tackle. It will be very interesting to see which receivers win the right to be the next on the field after Paul, Kinnie, and Mike. We're going to need someone to step up, perhaps Quincy? Get Curenski some stick? Just ideas. Maybe Will Henry steps up and finally has a big senior year... that frame would be hard to defend. Obviously the QB spot is probably the most important battle in terms of determining the outcome of the season, and I was going to ask which battle you guys thought was the most important, but I was pretty sure everyone would just vote QB, so I left it off. As far as OLB and Safety, it's pretty up in the air as to who will play, esp. at OLB. Gomes is more or less a lock at FS, but SS could be manned by a number of people, even though we've heard West is taking the reps with the ones. Another battle worth considering would be dime back, as I believe Eric Hagg is our peso back as well as our nickel guy, but I can't imagine we'd play much nickel this year. So, the backup corner spots behind Prince and Alfonso could be up for grabs, especially if Blue really is hurt. Let's hope not. I could see Andrew Green getting his foot in the door. I was just wondering which were your favorite battles, your thoughts in general, and which battle you feel will have the most competition. By that I meant there is the most talent competing for the spot, or the spot where you would feel most comfortable no matter who wins.
  13. apparently you don't follow hoops at all.... the puerto rico tourney has been talked about quite a bit as far back as during the season last year. nu played in this tourney several years ago and went 3-0 i believe. i for one am somewhat excited by this schedule, the middle stretch is tough but there is a string of games at the beginning and end of season that would allow a decent team to hit a win streak. the last few years they've had tough games at the very start, it'll be nice to have a couple potential confidence boosting games to start the season, and also be able to end hot, which leads to a better tourney showing Guilty, man. I like to watch the games if they are on and I know who we are playing, but I'm not as big of a college basketball fan as a lot of other guys. Good to get your breakdown on the schedule, you have me cautiously optimistic. Here's to hoping this year is the year Doc and the boys turn it around. I really like the guy and he fits in well here, He's just had a lot of breaks go against him while he's been here. How do you feel we can do in the puerto rico tourney, B Ball?
  14. Charles Barkley's injured? Sweet merciful Lord...
  15. I hope you're right. I've read a few good comments coming out of fall camp about QE. We certainly could use somebody to pick up the slack behind Paul and Kinney. And how do you have 1900 posts in less than a year? Good grief, man, how much time do you put into this board? EZ-E is a college student, man. What else is he gonna do? Study? Hell no . Anyway, he's a very solid contributor here. Glad to have you man. If nobody else is gonna say it, I will. Also, people have been talking about Quincy as a real sleeper pick ever since he committed to us. I always had a good feeling about the kid. At first, I just thought, great, another 3 star kid, but then people really began to chatter about how high his ceiling is and how much potential he has. Let's hope he proves everybody right and becomes a freshman receiving phenom. NU needs to get some stud receiverS (plural)! We had Mo basically picking up all the slack on his own in 2006, and now Niles, but how cool would it be to have two (three with Kinnie) studs to toss the rock to at the same time? Our offensive potential shoots through the roof.
  16. I remember not too long ago, Matt May was actually looked at as possibly our best LB (last year, before Dillard stepped up and when Compton and Fish were still adjusting and very green). Hopefully he can step up, but, if not him, someone will. Have faith. Terrible news to hear about Sean. Someone said he had bulked up a bit from last year (hard for him) and he seemed primed for a good season. I guess those Fisher kids just have leg troubles.
  17. Think we can sneak a jersey on this guy for the Oct 16th game? He seems to know how to take care of a linebacker, maybe we can put him at fullback? "Fight" on break.com (Wouldn't embed) (For the record, the story is that the ex-longhorn sucker punched A WOMAN, Roger saw it, and them proceeded to KO the b@stard.) That video was pretty sweet, aside from the whole women getting struck thing. Huerta owned that dude. Just goes to show you: Texas guys-- once a douchebag, always a douchebag. I'm in the camp that thinks Chase should probably redshirt this year. Usually lineman need a year to get physically strong enough and acclimated to the new level of the game. Evidently, that is not a problem for Chase. However, I think what Pelini said about him "repping with the 1's and 2's" is just pre-season chatter when there's nothing else to talk about, and we give the comment way more weight than it deserves. The fact that Carl says T Mo and Thad are still definitely ahead of Chase on the depth chart is telling, IMO. On NCAA 11, I usually only carry 3 DT's on my roster and RS whoever else. I'm not ripping Chase by any means, I love the kid and his potential is thru the roof. I just think the other guys have the experience factor and can get it done this year. If one of them gets hurt, then call me and we mite have a case for burning the shirt. Do we really want to have another "Boy I wish Chase would've taken a RS right away" convo in a few years, like we do with Niles Paul now?
  18. Unfortunately, zoogies, that goes beyond my threshold of Husker recollections. I've definitely heard the name though. Brother of Grant?
  19. Unfortunately, no, Kavario will have to sit out this year since he's transferring from one FBS team to another.
  20. You know, now that I think about it, Nebraska has had some pretty damn decent tight ends for a while now. Mike has been dang impressive at the position ever since he took over for Herian. Remember how good Matt was before he got hurt?
  21. This is a major coup for us, methinks. Local kid, drafted pretty high as far as the whole draft goes, and still decides to head to campus. He could teach Bubba a thing or two. Always good to keep kids considering the majors, and our pitching staff could use all the help it can get.
  22. Well, for anyone that has concerns about this kid's character, you couldn't ask for a better position couch than Ron Brown. Should be the perfect guy to keep Kavario in line and help him grow into a better player on the field and a better man off of it. We need a Ron Brown emoticon... yeah, he's that awesome. EDIT: Yeah, zoogies, my bad, I saw 3 for 2 and committed it to memory. He'll be 2 for 2 just like Gomes last year. And, on a side note, let's hope this works out better than the last notable transfer NU received. Hint hint... dude had stone feet, a coke problem, and took pictures next to woman that make you say "She's a man, man."
  23. Wait I just realized... does anyone know why exactly Kavario chose to come to NU? We weren't listed on his Rivals/Scout, and fittingly, b/c he's a Washington kid. Any relation to Lazarri???
  24. This is almost like a recruiting win for us, and being a 3 to play 2 guy, he effective replaces Chase Harper from last year's class.
