  1. Perlman has done a lot of good to academics ... otherwise we probably wouldn't have been invited. Twenty years ago we would be in the outside looking in.
  2. You guys could be right ... I could be wrong. But you still have to coach Vince Young and the other players. You still have to develop them regardless of their stars. Without great development, Suh continuing with BC as coach never would have been that great of a player. One bad season doesn't make Brown less of a coach for the overall duration of his stay at UT. He perhaps got complacent ... took his eye off the ball ... but that doesn't mean he won't bring his teams back. Respectfully, we have a difference of opinion.
  3. I don't agree with that. True they had a bad year last season ... except against us. But he has had a lot of good years, including NC and played for another one. He has to be doing something right with his coaching ... there's a lot more to it than just recruiting. You still have to develop players. I can't think of him less than a great coach ... he wouldn't have down as well if he wasn't, talent or no talent.
  4. Doesn't Gilleylen weigh somewhere between 215-220? I supposed they are looking for another athletic player with size. Someone who can be used as a power back with speed ... and we know he has a lot of it straight away. But I don't know one way or another how his first step is ... this could make a difference whether he sees the lineup. Does he have the natural ability to find holes and follow blockers? Can he see the whole field? If he has none of these qualities, we will perhaps see him once or twice late in the fourth quarter against a weak non-conference team.
  5. I could be totally wrong, but it seems like we will enter the Big 10 with a definite speed advantage over every team on our schedule except perhaps OSU. But I admit I haven't done a lot of homework on the Big 10 teams, so perhaps I'm off a little. If I'm wrong ... by how much? Or if I'm right ... by how much?
  6. We have our share of coaches with Texas HC connections ... they won't throw this away. Plus if the great academic institutions of UT and the Aggies recruit there, why shouldn't we?
  7. My first thought was an aggressive offense means more risk of turnovers. But look at all the turnovers, mainly fumbles, with a "passive" offense last season. So I will update my thought and say it's about sound execution and knowing how to improvise that perhaps avoids turnovers.
  8. Bob, I agree with the UT game. The the whole offense helped make T.M. look bad, let alone the receivers. But it seemed that Watson's schemes, especially the passing game, didn't play to his strengths. He's the type of QB that needs to be comfortable running around, and Wats didn't seem to teach that. Thus that had to be part of the problem that he looked so poor throwing when forced out of the pocket ... we will find out if this is a skill he can learn and become a threat at it.
  9. I saw a young kid trying to run a passing game that apparently was not compatible with the running attack. It appears he was coached only to drop back to pass and not roll out. This perhaps is part of the reason why he looked so ineffective throwing on the run ... or perhaps it's something that's not natural for him to do. All I know is he needs to improve in this area to run Beck's offense. And hopefully maturity will seep in and he shows more leadership on the field. Another problem perhaps was Watson's limitations of the zone read. Except on one occasion in the Idaho game, the loaded zone read (triple option) was non-existent, and there appeared to be no play-action passes out of it. So coaching perhaps was part of his struggles, but maybe not all of it. As far as his injuries, he had two bad games when he was healthy -- South Dakota State and UT. SDSU was the first red flag that something was wrong with our offense, but a lot of us choose to ignore it. I would expect that Beck will play to T.M.'s strengths ... but I would think he still needs to throw rolling out and on the run. It will be interesting to see if he develops this skill and if he interacts more with the players.
  10. Hi folks. I bought a lead list of folks who have inquired about starting a home-based business. Each lead is dated when they opted in. The lady who I bought the leads from has told me she has been selling these leads for 10 years and none of her clients have had issues with ISPs and servers. But there are 32,000 leads, and I have been warned by a number of folks that I will be blacklisted as a spammer by any ISP and a number of servers. This lady has told me her clients avoid ISPs and bulk email through paid servers, and they don't have any problems. But who are these servers ... anyone know? Please share. But even though these folks have not been flagged, are there any risks that this will eventually bite them in the a__? Please help.
  11. I think bshirt is on the right track. What you will perhaps see is one or two blocking schemes ... the coaches will work over and over on this scheme until the OL gets really good at it. Kind of like Osborne's later teams. As far as being too predictable in the recent years ... Osborne's offenses were predictable. But as you saw in his later teams, it didn't matter ... as long as he had the bodies who were able to execute the plays. As Barry Switzer us to say ... you may know what Nebraska was going to run, but that doesn't mean you are going stop it. Kind of what I'm hearing from Beck.
  12. What I like hearing the most is Beck and Pelini saying they will keep running the same play over and over again until the defense can stop it. Kind of something that T.O. use to do. It's all about execution rather than predictability.
  13. I suppose off the play action, the QB could fade back a little and throw the deep ball, kind of like the fake options that Osborne and Switzer use to run.
  14. The one thing we could miss in the secondary is that "shut down" corner like Prince. As they were saying on "Sports Soundoff", they are rare.
  15. I saw one element perhaps we might see in future ... after the fake to the RB, the QB throws a quick pass to a receiver in the flat. Forces the D to spread out more if executed well. But here's a question I asked a while back. Can you make the zone read into a triple option, where the QB either hands off to a RB, QB runs it, or pitches it to another back (in the slot) trailing the QB?
  16. But you heard one recruit --- don't remember who ... say he was told by one coach N was going to a two-back system. And this was before it was known that Watson and Gilmore were gone. But who knows what's ahead for us. We will see, won't we.
  17. Wow, he appears to have great control on the mound with that few base on balls. Is this an indication of his potential of being an accurate passer?
  18. Yes, Akron hired the "great" Kevin Cozgrove as DC. So if N wants to find an opponent to score 70 points or more on and over 600 yards total offense, this would be the team. The problem is by the time we schedule them, Coz will be fired.
  19. I like the this hire a lot! Of course if this is all true. He turn around an absolutely horrible HC football program. Very likable, high energy, great motivator, strong recruiter. Very promising.
  20. He didn't express his appreciation of Niles Paul's big contribution in ISU's win?
  21. T.M. would be a dangerous weapon rolling out and running bootlegs ... the problem is he hasn't shown he can do those things and can only throw in the pocket. My concern is ... does he have the natural instinct to execute those plays? I fear this may be an ability that either you have it or you don't and that coaching and practice may not be enough. I hope I'm totally wrong. He would be a huge threat if he could learn to execute those plays.
  22. Can Carnes throw on the run? I know Turner and Starling are supposed to be able to. T.M. has shown extremely poor judgment, and who knows if he will ever be natural at it. Is this something that can be learned through practice and coaching, or is this something where you either have it or you don't? T.M.'s continual struggle with this alone could open up the competition.
