  1. Think there’s any way Alex Henery breaks the NCAA record this year? Would Bo go for it to break the record? Or do we need an end of game desperate situation to kick it? NCAA field goal record: 67 yds. Steve Little, Arkansas vs. UT 1977 (wi 2 inch tee) 65 yds. Martin Gramatica, Kansas St. vs. Northern Ill. 1998 (w/o tee)
  2. This would be the worst thing for Nebraska. It would be a lose-lose situation. If we lost, then we lost. It's in the title. But if we won, it would forever go down dogeared because it's Boise with their pathetic schedule. No matter how good the team actually was (don't get me wrong, I think they'll be a hell of a team) people will always see it as a win over a WAC team. Now about he original topic If Nebraska went undefeated, we'd pass them, plain and simple. Boise got jumped by tOSU last year after tOSU beat PSU(?) and they were still undefeated. Also note how Cincy leapfrogged TCU after they beat Pitt. Both teams were undefeated at the time. And the gap between the Big East and Mountain West is a much smaller gap than between the WAC and B12. yep...and that is why nobody wants boise in the title game All true, yes. Sure, we'd all rather play a big name team. But I'd JUMP at the chance to play anyone for the title--Boise State, Moorehead State, Slippery Rock, whoever.
  3. Yeah, this IS a pretty stupid article. But you have to admit that this one sentence is funny stuff:
  4. Auburn probably deserves some credit too. Maybe more so than Vandy, a school for spoiled rich kids who couldn't get into Ivy. At least that's the rep I've heard for Vandy anyway.
  5. Man, that guy had a LOT of roles. Everything from Cool Hand Luke in 1967 (uncredited) to Cold Mountain in 2003. linky RIP James Gammon. RIP.
  6. Which is expected. It seems to be based on this and conjecture, rather than talent. For example, going into last season, you could look at Missouri and say they have one of the more talented QBs in the Big 12, even though Gabbert hadn't started a game. And you could look at Colorado and say "yeah, Hansen/Hawkins aren't that great." Our OL put together one good game at the end of last season, and while there are reports that we're going to be a lot better this year, that is making a big projection. We flat-out stunk last year, doesn't matter how many guys we return. On the other hand, I don't know much about Texas but you figure they have a lot of talented guys coming up the ranks there. I don't know; fill me in. The fact that they were destroyed by Nebraska and Alabama's DL doesn't really go against them, because honestly, who wasn't destroyed by us. I mean, 8th just seems low any way you slice it. They might not be stellar, but they aren't a bottom-dwelling unit in the Big 12. Yeah, too much emphasis on # returning starters, and not enough true analysis. That would explain why CU is so high. And OU and UT are relatively low.
  7. I dunno. NU rolled for nearly 450 yards that night against the Canes. On their home field no less. We just couldn’t punch it in on that sloppy sprinkler soaked mess of a field the Canes had prepared for us.
  8. Yeah, aTm. Dollar Bill just ain't a lunch pail kind of guy.
  9. I saw Dan Hawkins on a horse with no name. He’ll have ten wins by midseason.
  10. My thought too when I first saw these guys. Bryce is going to be like Josh Freeman. Great player who bailed out on NU to a team that then loses to us every year. In other words: FAIL. Hoch got lucky. Mizzou tagged us his frosh year when we were still down. They won't beat us again.
  11. If they beef up there out of conference scheduled, they would have a better chance. The big conference's don't have to beef up out of league play as much, there are always a few teams in conference that are rated enough to help SOS.Boise's league not so much. I think TCU has done more the last few years, to deserve a shot if they go undefeated again. The year Boise beat Okl, reminded me of the 75 Neb team that lost to Okl and the chance for a NC, and went to Fiesta Bowl and lost to Ariz St. Nebraska didn't want to be there any more than Okl did. GBR!!! Agree. OU came out pretty flat in that game. Had an early fumble that put them down 2 scores if I remember right. Just had the feeling that OU played that whole game with the attitude of "we'll end this when we need to." It took 2 trick plays to win the game and boise elected NOT to go to OT knowing where the odds were with that. I generally root for our Big 12 brethren to win. But I have to admit that the OT Statue of Liberty was pretty sweet. That one game from nearly three years ago bolsters Boise State's credibility in playing with the big boys. It will make it more difficult for voters to leapfrog NU over Boise--should the undefeated seasons come to pass. Friggin' OU Hillbillies.
  12. Yes, but now we will see about Utah. Whether they become dominant or doormat.
  13. 100% correct. I can see why FSU fans think he was great. Try telling a NU fan old enough to remember the Bobfather that he wasn't a big deal. True. Both pulled their programs up by the bootstraps. But it's interesting how their careers ended in quite different manners. NU raised the Bobfather up on a pedestal and threw flower petals at his feet for a quarter of a century. FSU extended a giant hook from behind the curtain and yanked Bobby Bowden off of the stage.
  14. 1. Texas 2. @Oklahoma State 3. @Texas A&M 4. @Washington 5. Colorado 6. Missouri 7. @Kansas State 8. @Iowa State 9. Kansas 10. Idaho 11. Western Kentucky 12. South Dakota State aTm has most of their starters returning, including 4 all conference players. I'd put aTm higher, except they have a history of mediocrity.
  15. This. If there are two undefeated teams playing tough BCS conference schedules, then Boise doesn't deserve to advance.
  16. This. An undefeated Nebraska team will oust an undefeated Boise State team, simply because of the S.O.S. Boise State would complain about it, as they have a right to, but they are a product of their own conference. They enjoy immense success because their conference is weak as a collective whole. Obviously, they were good enough to beat Oklahoma in 2007, but I would like to see them compete in a conference that is an AQ and a consistent top 5 or top 10 teams every year. You replace a team like Baylor with Boise State, and I say Boise State wins 10 games a year. I would like to think you guys are right. But I have my doubts that SOS would outweigh the polls--the human component. Then again I haven’t looked into the maths.
  17. That's the freakiest thing I've heard for quite a while. I wonder if she has two periods every month--well, when she's not prego in either uterus.
  18. I'm with ya. Especially the bolded part. This is the year for Wats to silence the naysayers. Or pack.
  19. Bowden has 2 MNCs to Osborne’s 3. But then again Bobby Bowden has a tailgate grill modeled after him. It’s a toss up.
  20. Very well put. I agree, and I'm not even an outsider looking in.
  21. Very nice. It sure would be better to carry around all day than 1911 that weighs about 30% more. But is it harder to get that second shot off than it would be with the heavier 1911 model?
  22. Let’s just say for kicks that we run the table this year, going undefeated in the regular season. Is there any way we catch Boise State in the rankings if they run the table too? More preseason rankings: linky
  23. Google failed, so I can't verify. Just sharing what I read a few months ago. Wish I remembered where I read it so I could ask the guy if he had a source to it. Ha ha! I am not questioning *your* source. I am saying that Pete Carroll is a questionable source for giving out compliments. Carroll's word may be true--Bo is great!!--even though Pete Carroll is a slimebag. Like Bernie Madoff complimenting some other Wall Street guy.
  24. GREAT topic! I'm not sure what the answer is. Apparently the SEC is only about athletics, mostly college football. Look at what UT has done: $12.1 billion endowment. 50,000+ students. $600 million yearly research expenditures. Over time, UT has developed resources that no SEC school can match. And no other Big 12 school either. Sure, they have some advantages in Texas (read: oil $$). But they've been smart about concentrating their efforts. They've developed Austin into a silicon valley of the prairie. But with all the advantages and wealth they have, UT still feels the need to extract yet more $$$ from the Big 12 have-nots of Mizzou, K-State, KU and Ia-State. That's one reason so many people, myself included, consider UT to be a bunch of loudmouthed a$$hat$.
