  1. I dont even really care to much to get into the games, I just like being on Campus during the games. Hitting the bars and Champions Club is a blast.
  2. I just dont understand what people dont see here. He could come to Nebraska, mess around at the rec one night and johnny gym rat gets under his foot while playing a basketball game and BAM, he tears up his ankle or knee. Unlikley? Of course, but you know whats not unlikley? CASHING 5 Million Dollars! Sign the contract. THE WORST CASE is that he flames out of baseball in 4 years and then goes to college, with millions. I know people say he could be a Husker legend and this and that, well thats great but isnt having millions in the bank better?
  3. Thats my point! I work with kids everyday. "She hates me" means, "so and so told me to tuck in my shirt", "He gives soooo much homework" means "I didnt finish it because I was facebooking all night", "I tried like a million times to call my project partner" means "I think I called once"
  4. Lets examine how those interviews went with those kids who "called NU and couldnt get in touch with a coach" Reporter: "So what schools are looking at you and what school are you interested in?" Kid: "Blah blah blah, and NU" Reporter: "What kind of interest are you getting from NU?" Kid: "I visited them once and I think they like me, I tried to call them other other day but I didnt get a hold on anyone" _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ There you have it, kind of a big difference from the lemmingers that claimed these kids were calling and calling and the NU staff was refusing to call them back. Lets face it, we know thats how the story really happened. There is a delicate balance from "working" a kid and annoying them.
  5. I thought this was a thread that was only on huskeronline, where Jaw can come spread his posts about how so and so isnt calling people and so and so isnt calling people.
  6. You don't teach spelling do you? /jk Well, the spelling is correct, its just the wrong word. I think that is even worse! haha
  7. I teach and we are basically told note to have facebook or twitter.
  8. What % of players in the top 100 come from Florida, Cali and Texas? Around 35%?
  9. I believe that MLB (even farm contracts) cover injuries. I think that you also cant "Cut" a guy in baseball or any sport that I know of, while they are injured, they have to go on the IR list, so they are still getting paid and treated, even in the farm system. I think, but I am not totally sure. The 3 million (after taxes and agent cut) will take care of a kid much longer then any school will. Now, NU "took care" of Blake Lawrence sure, but how much did they take care of him? Two more years of free school at UNL? Whats that come to now, 30,000?
  10. Suh and Prince only had one year to go, really just one semester I think.
  11. 2-3 million will get a bachelors degree at most all schools. If he breaks his leg in baseball then we can bring his money and get a college degree. Totally agree! Look, while you are playing, even minor league ball, you get a stipend each day for food. So you dont have to worry about meals or places to stay since he could probably just shack up with a few guys on the team. I guess I dont understand the odd pattern of thoughts, college is not going anywhere. Heck, he could take classes online WHILE playing baseball, I worked full time teaching/coaching and finished up my Masters online, taking 3 or 4 classes at a time. I am sure he could do the same thing with a Bachelors.
  12. yes, this is what he should do. Makes no sense to put more than 250k into a CD since FDIC will only insure that amount in case of bank failure, and the bank will not pay you jack sh#t for interest in the interim. CD's make no sense to invest in because they will pay you much less than stated inflation, and next to nothing compared to actual inflation when you take into account the Fed's money printing operation. Well I would not be to worried about the FDIC, I don't think the bank will get robbed and if it goes under there are bigger issues! ha ha But yeah the CD might be a bad idea but I really don't know much about investments so I was just giving an example. I figured a short term CD could get about 3%??? try 1 1/2%.....there are much better places to put that kind of money to work, which are unavailable to the average petty investor. Yeah, I know that people with real money get better rates, I think that my point might have been missed, I was basically just saying there are easy ways to make that money last.

  14. Speaking as a teacher, take the money now. You can always go back to college if things dont work out but you cant always make 5 million dollars for signing your name on a paper. Take 1 million of the bonus put it into a 3 month CD, roll it over ever 3 months while you are playing (and still getting your pay, remember we are just talkin about the bonus) then in 3-5 years if baseball doesnt work you still have that CD around with lots of cash. Not to mention the rest of your signing bonus (after taxes and agent fees) assuming you didnt spend it all. Then, go to college.
  15. Niles Paul was a big prospect, wasnt he? Its funny, the lame posters over on HI (Jaw of course) is freaking out about how bad recruiting it and how the coaches still dont know what they are doing and blah blah blah.
  16. His team won the state championship in 5A last year. As you said IL has 8 classes. He plays in a private school conference so there is probably some good talent but its probably not as "ethnically diverse" as some of the other chicagoland conferences. I'd say 3 star is about right. You hit the nail on the head. Now, the private school in Chitown (Mt. Carmel for one) get some super stars, but the cream of the crop tend to be the 8A class kids, Downers Grove, Naperville (this place is usually loaded with players since they have about 5 high schools all with over 2,500 kids in a small area), Bolingbrook, Aurora, East St. Louis. Montini was down for a long time, and recently has had some major sucesess, due impart to kids like Jordan. I have no doubt that he will be very good though.
  17. Thats a good idea, but really how many people are willing to sell their tickets to the tOSU game for less than a ridiculous amount. Last year, I found a pretty good deal on Texas tickets before the season started, considering the hype and everything for that game. Chances are slim to get a good deal on them, thats for sure. The thing with checking into bars is that they give them to bar owner the week of the game, usually around wednesday or Thursday. So you can usuually get them cheaper. Some UT for face value last year. But, most of the time you will still have to pay more.
  18. This time of the year, the prices are always so high. People want to get the tickets now so that they can make their plans for the game. If you want to know a little trick, go to some bars in Omaha, older ones. Ask if they have tickets for sale, TONS of regulars ask the owners to hold their tickets and sell them to other bar patrons for them.
  19. I grew up right by his school. Its tiny, maybe class 4A out of 8 classes. They dont really play the "cream of the crop" in the state. Not saying he isnt good, just saying that might impact his "stars" but I have no idea.
  20. Its not racisim, its scoutism.
  21. Turner will end up with, probably, 100 touches this year, between punt returns, kick returns, receptions, handoffs (tosses, reverses, stuff like that) I also think he will end up throwing the ball 10 times, at least.
  22. Two reasons for the draft 1. Depth charts are not really set, there are not really 1's and 2's yet 2. It is freaking fun for the kids We do this for my team, they love it.
  23. I LOVE the post above mine! You guys have some really serious stuff you do! I am more just about drinking, watching the game at a bar with friends or heading to Lincoln and talegating/champions club/bars. I usually dont even go into the games anymore.
  24. Enhance, no problem! I did hear that he had to "throw away" 66 passes this last season because no one was open, that is a HUGE chunk that would kill his %, if that is true or not I dont know but it would really change thigns. I am sure you could argue that he threw them away because he has bad pocket presence but who knows. He did play the wing-T but he was not brought to Washington to play that, at least I dont think he was. Wasnt Ty Willingham the coach when Locker got there or was it Neuhisal? Either way, neither of those guys run anything like the high school wing T. On a side note, coaching against the wing T is SUPER ANNOYING!
