  1. USC's WCO isn't as complicated, they have a true freshman QB, a true freshman WR that gets playing time. NU isn't running their offense. NU doesn't have the WRs for it to work or the big time blue chip 4-5 star pro-style QBs. NU should be running a run/gun with true reads and options along with some power-I. I totally agree and also, thank you for responding to my thread. Good lord people, almost 100 views and only one response!!
  2. And also an early starting game. This kid is serious about NU.
  3. Dude, the old "would you bet your house on it" is the worst line ever. Come on, its a bet/gamble, so there is always a chance that something freaky could happen, so yeah, most people arent betting their house on it. Like with USC and Stanford a few years back, weird things can always happen. Secondly, you mention that parents migth not want their kid to play for a coach that "acts like Bo" really? Come on, Bob Knight got great college players, Coach K, who rides refs more then anyone gets great players all the time. Stoops is a total jerk to refs and reporters. Parents want their kids to be happy and if their kid is happy with Bo, they will want them to play there. They want their kids to learn to be accountable and to become a man or an adult, they dont want to hear about taking an easy way out, or getting into trouble or cheating. Are their parents that wouldnt want Pelini for their kid, of course there is, but 99% of the time parents dont say "I dont want you to play football and go to college for free because of coach X" By the time you are 18 most parents are letting the kid make the choice.
  4. Its funny, I have seen lots of threads and read lots of posts about how NU should be running a unique type offnese so that it would be harder for other teams to prepare and becuase recruiting would become simple. Well guess what, NU currently does that, look at the top 10, hell look at the top 25, outside of USC does any top 25 team run the WCO? Some people might try to say "bama, but they are just a power running team. God, I hate the WCO!!!!!!!! It just doesnt work well in college, to many plays, to much to learn, to much emphasis on EVERYTHING but being athletic and making plays.
  5. check out this quote from Mike Leach "There's two ways to make it more complex for the defense," Leach told journalist Michael Lewis, writing for The New York Times Magazine. "One is to have a whole bunch of different plays, but that's no good because then the offense experiences as much complexity as the defense. Another is a small number of plays run out of lots of different formations. That way, you don't have to teach a guy a new thing to do. You just have to teach him new places to stand." It makes a ton of sense, the first guy I coached for who I still believe is the very best coach in the state of NE said something similar to me 10 year ago. You dont need a lot of plays, you can just formation defenses to death running a lot of the same things from different looks.
  6. UCLA and Tenessee are all about location. Tennessee especially, its not totally south and its not totally midwest and its not totally north, so they get a good pull of kids from all over. Washington is an odd one, they tend to pull pretty good classes, I think people underestimate the location to Northern Cali and then of course they seem to have a great connection with samoan players.
  7. I think these are the things that really hurt recruiting. 1. Having a boring time on your trip. 2. NOT seeing fans at the game, empty seats 3. Having lame coaches that bore the kids. Thats really about it, by the time the kid sets up a visit they already know if they are interested in the offense or defense that the team runs. They just want to see if they fit in with the players, if they make some friends, if they have some fun and if they can see themselves being with those coaches for the next 4 years or so, 30 hours per week.
  8. Sincerely, The loss against Texas Tech. Hey, are you a TT fan? Or are you a bigredboard poster or just a BCer? I can't tell. If you are a TT fan, thats cool, you should rip on NU fans right now, I know I would make fun of TT fans if NU had won. IF you are a bigredboard poster or a BCer well then, thats just funny.
  9. I'll just get it out of the way. "We don't need him then." Tell him good luck trying to find any freaking fanbase in the world that doesnt boo at a game. If the kid plays high school football, he has heard the boos many many many times. Tell him that he better wake up from his dream world. If he wants to go to a place where he wont hear boos, then point him to a non D1 school, where there are no fans and no one cares.
  10. The thing is, and if I could find the Will Muschamp quote I would but college DC's love playing the WCO because they find it easy to game plan for. After the first 10-15 scripted plays the offense starts to have major issues. Thats how BC's offense was and didnt this last weekend the skers drive all the way down with ease on the first drive, only to fumble and then never have a nice drive again for a long time?
  11. It is very difficult to perfect, that is true.
  12. Well, its probably more popular then ever in high school now. I coach football and have for 10 years, the option is all over the place, there is not one week that goes by where we dont see it. As far as the overhaul you are talking about, I think you are right about that.
  13. I totally agree, its like I said in the other thread. If the defensive players got faster guess what, the offensive players got faster too. Its weird to think that people feel only the defensive guys got faster.
  14. I have never understood a few things. 1. The defenses are to fast for the option. Okay, but why did the players on defense get faster but the players on offense have not? Didnt they both get faster? 2. People think that its the offense you run that makes you good/bad and there is truth to that but I think it has more to do with the tendencies of that playcaller. TO was great at changing things up, some coaches are more predictable. Mike Leach, is a coach that is very very good at changing things up and his offense is very good.
  15. Thats the part I dont understand. Last year with Ganz (a last second recruit) and swift (a FS recruit) and Peterson (a walkon) the offense was better then it is now with this "big time" talent that BC brought in. So, is it just that other coaches have figured out Watsons playcalling? Is it that BC's recruits were way overhyped? Is it that the offense has no identity?
  16. So, in the last month I have seen that these coaches in the Big 12 should all be fired. 1. Bob Stoops 2. Mike Gundy 3. Dan Hawkins 4. Shawn Watson 5. Bo Pelini 6. Mike Sherman and his entire staff 7. Mike Leach 8. The ISU special teams coach 9. Bill Snyder 10. Gary Pinkle Come to think of it, Briles and Brown might be the only two coaches that I have not read anything about when it comes to getting fired. My point is, maybe its time to relax a bit. Sure there are things that need to be fixed at NU and I am sure no one wants them fixed more then the staff. Are they all the very best coaches for NU? I dont know, I personally do not like the lack of offensive identitiy and would like to see that addressed. I would rather see a WVU type offense or a Bama type offense, either zone/read (with a QB who will actually run) or that power running running game that bama has.
  17. Bo's answers were just as dumb as the questions. All he ever said was " we didn't execute and we didn't make plays." Well duh. He must have said that 50 times. How about explaining WHY this hapless team didn't execute and didn't make plays? Why not explain HOW his coaching must not be worth a crap? How about the coaching of his assistants, especially Watson and Cotton? Why not eplain why the Huskers get TONS of stupid penalties every game? How about explaining the lame play calling all game long? Why not explain the Huskers getting bashed every time they are on National TV making recruits want to go anyplace but here after watching a Nebraska game? I want some answers not the same old " we didn't execute " line. I know what you are saying but I dont think 10 minutes after a loss is the best time to start explaining the X's and O's. There is generally a 24 hour rule that coaches try to follow, regardless of the outcome of a game. The thinking is that if you wait 24 hours the emotion is kind of out of it and you can actually look at things the right way. Its like when you see players crying at the end of a tough loss, 24 hours later, they are not crying, they are more objective. After a tough loss its easy for a coach or player to go "well we sucked because _________ and _________ sucked ass with ___________ and ___________ today" Sometimes the other teams just make good plays and sometimes other teams just have better players and sometimes other teams they just have better coaching. It happens.
  18. Is there any head coach in the country that runs both sides of the ball? Is there any head coach in the country that calls plays on both sides of the ball? I guess I cant think of any.
  19. I totally agree with the "lee not running" thing. Look, if you have a QB that wont run thats fine, but you better have a freaing stud RB and great Oline.
  20. Ummm, I just said the same thing you did dude. I said that NU is average and that TT is better and that NU is not that good and that they have average players. Sooo I guess you are the cluless one since you agreed with me but still pretended like you didnt agree with me.
  21. Is there a chance that TT is just better then NU? I know there is tons of talk that Watson sucks and Lee sucks and so on but, dont you think that TT deserves credit? Also, most of us probably agree that for the most part BC was terrible, I know I do. I have also long felt that BCs recruiting was way way way overrated and maybe we are seeing that from time to time? Isnt there a good chance that Lee is just an average QB? Isnt there a good chance that NUs WR's are just average? I mean, you cant usually develop average into greatness. Maybe we are seeing the effects of BC's recruiting, especially on the offensive side of the ball and maybe we also saw that TT is a pretty good team. We talk about how NU "could have been" 5-0 before this game, well TT was not far away from having zero losses too.
  22. Anyone know if he is waiting for an Auburn offer or not?
