  1. It sure would be a steal to get this guy in here as an athelete. I'm a little bit hesitant to think he would come here over Alabama just because we offer a shot at the QB position considering our depth at qb and the kinds of qbs we have been recruiting.
  2. and they still have december and january to take visits. I'd say not having the option of seeing a potential home on a game weekend is pretty significant. And the fact that the recruiting process has sped up, waiting until December and January to take visits means (1) the recruit may commit somewhere as a place holder or without being able to fully evaluate the staff and university leading to decommitments later and (2) recruiting classes will be nearly full and the recruit may miss out on some significant opportunities. I would take a more holistic approach to this and say that the student's future trumps the coach's football centric views. I have to admit you might be right. I would say though that I don't think it is necessarily a case of a HS coach being selfish and just putting winning above the concerns of his players. I'm sure the coach is doing it for the "right" reasons most of the time. That being said, in this day and age that mentality may very well cost a kid an opportunity now and again. I think most of us agree that the best situation would be for the NCAA to allow official visits during the summer before a students senior year.
  3. Well considering the kid is from N.C. I guess it is no shock that his top 3 are all SEC schools. I was hoping his experience in Kansas might have warmed him up to the idea of playing at NU. I think playing close to home is the number one reason that we lose out on most of these stud DTs, not the SEC name. Unfortunately that is where the majority of these blue chip DT recruits come from. Always an uphill battle.
  4. Well I wish you good luck Jason Hall, but now the curse of the Long Horns is upon you.
  5. I don't think it is that unreasonable. It is instilling a team first mentality in his players, and that is something that is sorely lacking in a whole lot of high profile recruits these days.
  6. Just think about this. If Alabama is willing to give a Juco DT a scholarship with all of the depth they have accumulated at that position that says a whole hell of a lot. I don't want to get my hopes up, but if we land Lamin I swear right now to all of huskerboard I will go streaking.
  7. Mr. Adam Taylor is sure not going to be too caught up in the atmosphere here. The lights in Texas are very bright indeed. Also I love how the commentators in that clip point out multiple times "Taylor runs over two long horns". Good stuff. Candyman, got a question for ya. Has Taylor spent much time in pass pro so that he will be able to transition easily to the college game? I just can't see a single thing in his game that would keep him from transitioning to the college game easily. Assuming he picks up the play book quickly there would be nothing else holding him back.
  8. Wow I can't wait to see our special teams unit this year. With guys like Gerry, Taylor, Love, Singleton, Banderas, D. Martinez, Newby and Afalava we should have some much needed speed and atheleticism injected into those units.
  9. I agree with you guys, but let's be honest. It is rarely the University or the Coaches who are providing the "incentives". Granted the coaches and administration should be able to get to the bottom of this kind of stuff, and a lot of coaches might just look the other way, but this thing can be kind of hard to catch. I think in general the whole culture of Nebraska makes this a more rare kind of incident than in a larger Market such as a Miami or USC. That being said, I am very proud as well that this stuff has never taken hold here.
  10. I might have the definition of breakout player wrong, but I think Jared Afalava will be the biggest suprise.
  11. Ooooh. I like red friday. Great name. Nothing but good would come from us playing a Big Time game in a slot where no other teams are playing. Unless we lose most the time of course. But we all know that won't happen.
  12. HaHaHa. Can someone please photoshop this picture of him into husker gear? That would be solid GOLD.
  13. I fully concur with this. I see CJ as a CB as well, but I have wondered/assumed that he will be the heir apparent to Ciante when he leaves. They talked about Hagg being the most atheletic guy out there, and similarly about Evans, and CJ definitely fits the bill. Moving him to S for one year would give him a much deeper understanding of the Defense. Could this be a calculated move? What do you guys think about that possibility?
  14. Carter is actually more refined as a blocker than a reciever. He is a hell of a blocker. I think he is going to be our best dual threat tight end since Johnny Mitchell.
  15. I was very skeptical about him when I saw his name was Chase. My skepticism was not unfounded.
  16. Fuzzy I think you are right. Collins has every damn thing you want in a DT. I'm still scratching my head on how under the radar he was. I just want to add one thing about Valentine though. The competition is going to be what he needs. He is going to be seeing Collins and maybe Maurice as well working their a$$ off and he is going to have to realize he is either going to step up or play second string his whole career here. Let's hope he rises to the challenge. God knows we have all needed that kind of thing in our life to wake us up.
  17. Well nevermind, I just read that Helfrich said Frost will be calling plays this year. Congrats to Frost. I was positive Helfrich would keep play calling duties.
  18. I would love to see Nebraska vs. Wisky for the last game of the year, nationally televised every year. I think more often than not that would be a game of huge significance as well. Maybe we could play for a giant all red sledge hammer. That would be a fitting trophy.
  19. To be determined is 100% accurate. I can live with that. It's those that already write it off as the wrong hire who have no clue. Because we have no clue yet. You kind of wonder if we ever will with Papuchis. I know his job title, but this is Bo's defense.... This is true as well. The Nebraska defensive coordinator position is pretty much going to be a glorified figure-head as long as Bo is here. It is funny that you say this because the OC position at Oregon under Helfrich seems to be about the same. And this is the reason I think Frost comes back as OC when Beck gets his well deserved head coaching job.
  20. I would take that in a heart beat. All in all I don't want to get my hopes up THAT much though.
  21. Yep this rule is going to strait up decide many games this year, no way around it. And that is sad.
  22. Oh yeah, and Tom Osborne of course. That was almost blasphemy.
  23. to add on, the university is the largest employer in lincoln before you add in all the subcontractors they employ for various projects. and they always have something going on. as for the complainers moving to GI, dear lord who would want to do that? (i can knock GI cause i grew up in hastings) I'm from Hastings too. I go to GI only about once every 6 months, simply to get my new boots at Willis. You cross the tracks on Walnut to there, and it's like crossing over to a third world country. What a shithole. Yeah I'm not even going to try and argue with you guys, you have the right of it. But come on, we all know the only good thing that ever came from Hastings was Kool-Aid
