  1. I know a former highly placed administrator that knows otherwise . . . and it's all in writing. That's why I said I believe. I thought us getting kicked out of the AAU was due to UNL and UNMC being treated as separate campuses and therefore the research done at UNMC didn't add to the research being done at UNL. I'll admit to not knowing much (or anything) about this, just that we were kicked out. I remember reading something like what I said above, but that was years ago and I didn't know how credible the article was at the time. I'd be eager to read a PM about this though, if you wouldn't mind. As I recall, NU had been given 2 or 3 years prior notice that UNMC was too far from UNL to be included as part of UNL. Perlman & co argued this to get the proximity requirement changed or get an exception without success. If there is substantially more to this, I am curious as well....
  2. I really have to agree with teach on this... Another recording of Bo has surfaced where he says things completely in keeping with his character, laced with profanity, to a private/known audience and fans are upset... Why is anybody shocked?!?
  3. Sawtooth is good, Chainsaw is muuuccchhh better. Are you saying they are doing a nitro Chainsaw or just that it's back? A nitro version would be interesting... http://lefthandbrewing.com/about/nitro/
  4. Regular or the Nitro? Both are good, but the Nitro is better I went with the regular for the first try. One of my employees said he didn't like the nitro. I will probably get some of each next time. Nitro is awesome; first I've heard of anyone liking the regular more than the nitro. BTW, if you are in CO, Left Hand reps have been hitting local liquor stores giving out Left Hand imperial pint glasses with any milk stout or nitro milk stout purchase. If you chat them up, they'll give you some extra. I got 8 last night...
  5. Worst at furniture making? Heh. I would have said tackling Melvin Gordon. But hey, that's just me. Not WORST but LEAST amount... Also, wtf didn't you include Texas in your list? This is priceless: Texas: Fewest high school graduates per capita Less than 80% of Texans have a high school diploma. It’s actually the only state that dips below 80%, too. Everything is bigger in Texas — including dropout rates, apparently.
  6. The only possible similarity, imo, is saying both may have been fired for "off-the-field" issues. When Pederson was hired as AD, it was "common knowledge" that Pederson had an axe to grind with Frank (going back to Pedey's stint in the 80s/90s). Not finding the OWH article on it but it's a common story... There were some rumors re: Frank's off-the-field behavior but nothing approaching the reality of Bo. One common rumor was problems with alcohol... As far as the aftermath, no comparison. The worst public fiasco involving Solich post-firing was his DUI at Ohio. Nothing sensational and definitely nothing vindictive towards NU or the AD...
  7. I thought MSU & Illinois would be favored in their games, all the others make sense. I really think NU *could* beat USC but realistically I'm just hoping to be in the game all 4Q. I think Auburn will beat wisky and Minny will have a good showing. tOSU from last saturday rolls tide but not sure if that team shows up again. Otherwise I'd pick: Alabama favored by 9 1/2 over Ohio State. Baylor favored by 3 over Michigan State. Missouri favored by 6 over Minnesota. Tennessee favored by 3 1/2 over Iowa. Stanford favored by 14 over Maryland. Boston College favored by 3 over Penn State. Auburn favored by 6 1/2 over Wisconsin. North Carolina favored by 4 over Rutgers. Louisiana Tech favored by 3 over Illinois
  8. Is that a position the football head coach can manage? Or is it someone else in the athletic department responsibility Not sure. I think we were first attracted to him due to his athletic ability during his playing days. He certainly was a force to be reckoned with: Pelini worked with Nobler at OU and brought him here so not sure if that plays into it at all. Can't find the articles right now, but Erstad and Miles have both made positive references about Nobler in the past (brings a lot to the athletic dept, not just football or somesuch...). Nobler is also very well respected professionally. Beyond his mad football skillz, it would be a mistake to let him go, imo
  9. Can't watch the video at work, but I assume it is saying that Pelini to Youngstown St? If true, you can't make this stuff up... Said it's a rumor, asked a lot of folks about it, no confirm or deny. Says it makes sense so Bo could GTFO of Lincoln for someplace he likes while essentially coaching for free & his kids can do HS in Youngstown... Vince Marrow was one of the candidates. Didn't he burn the bridge with Bo on the way to Kentucky?
  10. I was definitely impressed with the play of OSU. Most notably, their 3rd string QB. Part of it is good depth, most of it is motivation & coaching. Great coaches know how to get their players to play better/harder/quicker than they think they can. As much as I disdain Urb, his staff really has a team with a great mindset. NU's biggest issue has been mental. With wisky, we got outcouched and this gets magnified by the players effing up mentally. The mental toughness starts with S&C but it's not about adding more weight or doing more stairs. It's about persevering when you wanna quit; making the last rep better than the first. Learning how to push beyond your limits. I don't think Pelini's players ever quit on the staff but I do think some of them quit on themselves or had been conditioned into the "quicksand" mentality. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3O-kYwM8qY?t=1m20s
  11. It's pretty obvious people are jumping to conclusions and going overboard with the not calling recruits thing. Riley is a seasoned coach and he is not going to ignore players that are already committed to NU, that would just make his job harder, but also he is not going to call them before he gets a chance to see what they are about and how they will fit into what he wants to do with his offense and defense. Every national analyst is raving about how good of a hire this is and how good and innovative of a recruiter Riley is. Everybody needs to just take a breath and see what this guy is about, what he can get done, and enjoy the ride. Nyatawa article on "recruits in limbo" posted late last night... http://www.omaha.com/huskers/blogs/football-recruiting-husker-targets-still-in-limbo/article_7480d57c-7e9a-11e4-b5c9-0f933eaa99f7.html I agree, give the new coach/staff some room. We are a couple days into the new coach, just over a week out from axing the old one. Riley has plenty of time to salvage the class. December's gonna appear to suck with recruits having winter break & time to stew. I am confident it'll start looking good again after the bowl game...
  12. Bump With the number of posts citing drinking, woulda thought this thread would see more activity...
  13. I don't see the issue with 16 games. Div II national champ will have played at least 15 games? For only two teams, that will be 15 games. FBS has larger rosters, more budget/resources/etc so it should be feasible. Only valid argument I really see is the scholarship limits when injuries hit. Increase the limit a bit and it's fine. I hate tOSU but I love the way their 3rd string QB played yesterday....
  14. I must be reading most of the posts wrong or just hitting the wrong topics. Other than some initial reactions, I haven't seen much that I would say is negative. I think there is a lot of dialog (mostly constructive) and some folks are more pragmatic than others. Since "the firing", very few have been voicing anything approaching not supporting DONU. I like the pragmatic dialog going on right now. Like others, I have done research and unlike some, I have been able to speak directly with a few of Riley's former players from OSU. It's much easier to level-set expectations and gauge the hire by looking at it from differing viewpoints. I am cautiously optimistic; I see some things for concern and see some things to be excited about. I REEAAALLYY hope this constructive dialog continues as it's enjoyable & worthwhile (relative to what I *could* be doing...)
  15. I'm honestly really interested to see how Papuchis does without out the wrath of Bo hanging over his head. I think he'll be more willing to switch and mix things up. It's pretty much a job audition if he wants to get a decent job somewhere else next year. I actually thing this is a good question. If Pap proves that hes a competent coach when he doesnt have bo hanging over his moves or controlling him like a puppet. Would you consider him staying at some level. I always have liked his enthusiam on the sidelines. I like Pap myself. Be good to see him do it solo. Hope for the best. Seriously, it will be nice to know what role Paps actually played. That said, if the D plays great, it brings up WWWAAAYYYY more questions than answers. Not sure the space-time continuum could handle such paradox (or HB anyway...)
  16. Or maybe not, since a coach could easily ruin a kids future in the sport with one word. I would think an AD could do that as well, yes? That didn't stop info from being leaked or some slighted comments towards SE specifically. Idk anything, just seems more likely that whatever Pelini said, it was nothing new from most players' perspective.
  17. My opinion, both schools are johny-come-latelys whose fans would rather play the persecution card than accept reality. Smaller programs in a down year for the B12 perennial powers. All things being equal, B12 will probably continue to be left out of playoffs if the champ is not Texa$$ or OU. Adding two lower-tier programs to get back to a championship will only serve to further dilute the conference perception and justify lower rankings. As an outsider, this just feels right lol
  18. I have heard similar stories from a number of unrelated folks (no insiders, just alums/fans with friends back N Lincoln). No idea if true but it wouldn't surprise me either way. What I find interesting is how similar of a story is being shared indedpendently of one another. Lots of consistency on fans' perception of Pelini's view re: SE, HP, fans, media. etc (whether correct or incorrect). The SE email was tweeted by Gangwish the day it happened. I have to believe if BP said something out of character at the meeting (either more positive OR more negative), specifics would already have been leaked directly by players. I have not seen this so my belief is whatever BP said, the players viewed it as consistent with BP's already known or perceived opinions.
