  1. Seriously? The only positions are "Riley=<insert best coach eva>" or "you're hugging Bo's jock"?!? I know plenty of folks who hated Bo from day 1 and are just as unhappy (right now) with the hire. I know this, the common theme here was to turn over every stone to find the article about Bo to say "see? He's good! Read this find!" Find me one quote today disparaging Riley's character. The PAC 12 media can't believe we made the hire because USC offered him TWICE and he turned them down. And people here want to crucify him before his first presser? Christ I didn't turn on Bo until late 2012. Maybe I am reading the posts wrong or missing something. There were two issues at stake, imo: "quality of the hire" vs "quality of the coach". Time will tell on both but Riley is not a "no-brainer" for either one (perception wise). Not gonna go down the character path as it doesn't lead anywhere on HB. I have spoken directly with 3 former OSU players this morning that I have known for years. All respect the guy & expressed shock NU picked him. Just adds to the "underwhelment" is all... I expected someone that would fuel very little debate in either category. My #1 concern was that we would get someone that was NOT universally perceived as low risk/high reward. I support NU but can still think this was not the hire we needed...

  3. Is this a new board rule that opinions aren't allowed to change? If that's the case, what's the point? I get that some folks look at the hire and see nothing but upside. A lot of us aren't there (yet). I see nothing with Riley's resume that indicates to me it's an upgrade. It looks to me like it is someone that is equally likely to succeed or fail but has much better demeanor than the last guy. What I expected was somebody that came with less perceived risk of getting us to compete for championships. If Riley starts winning, I'll eat crow and call SE a genius. If he doesn't, well idk yet as I'm still in shock in the lackluster hire.
  4. That does ease my offensive philosophy nervousness a bit... I remember when Callahan was hired and people were creating these STUPID jpg's of red Husker jets depicting our new air attack..what a f-ing joke that was. If I see another one of those red Husker jets I will punch someone. Red Husker "Jet" for ya... ;-)
  5. When folks said they wanted a "CEO resume", I don't think Enron is what they had in mind... #DetailsMatter Yeah, Details DO matter. And I'm guessing that you don't know many more details than the rest of us in Husker Nation about Riley and his strengths etc. except for the win/loss comparison which is hard to compare across conferences...... So, (since we can't alter the decision anyway), why aren't folks willing to let him introduce himself, hire a staff and explain his philosophies?? Sounds like the "most knowledgable fans" in America aren't really quite so open minded after all........ I am good friends with some former OSU players under Riley. Today I am working next to a 3 year starter at OSU under Riley. His response - TO demeanor & it could be worst than always finishing 3rd in B10 West... Riley is NOT a bad person; also not the hire we needed. EDIT: I get you and others are excited about this and that's fine. For myself, I do not see any indication this will be an upgrade from what we had. Time will tell but that doesn't mean we can't share our opinion on the hire until then...
  6. Riley retaining the ENTIRE current staff is the only way this could be a bigger kick the nutz, imo...

  8. Why does the UF announcement sound a lot better than this one? Now you're just being cruel... McElwain was my first choice. Rumor here in FTC is his agent reached out to NU but got no response. But yes, the UF announcement was a splash in the ocean; ours more of a turd in the punchbowl... Coulda just hired Hoke, at least he knows the B10...
  9. I work with a guy that was a 3 year starter under Riley at OSU. His response to the hire - TO demeanor & there are worse things than being 3rd in B10 West...
  10. I hope the sock ends up on the hand of a chronic masturbator....
  11. Anderson & Miles both had a history of winning at a "lower level", turned programs around, and were viewed as coaches on the rise. Riley, while respected, does not fit any of these categories. Bad hire given the need for an "upgrade"...
  12. Walks - You nailed it brutha... What a colossal clusterf*ck downgrade
  13. As others have said, Gingers have no souls. Just proven. Need to go punt some redheaded babies or something. This sucks
  14. This can't be happening... Seriously, how the F is this an upgrade?!?
  15. Can you get food poisening from an HB post? That's exactly how I feel right now... Talk about hitting an all time low. BB needs to stay the F away from UNL
  16. After reading all the arguements on Frost, I've come around on the idea of naming Frost the HC in waiting. Do we make it contigent on Frost staying at Oregon or can he keep the "NU HC in waiting" title if he takes a lower tier D1 HC job? Would we need to have a ceremony like when schools give out honarary degree or would a press release suffice?
  17. I have heard enough stories to believe Perlman has had some colossal screw ups along with some really big wins. I'd prefer Perlman gone but doing over football is a bit much. Sends the wrong message on the University's focus (which should be academics). A great chancellor would be more an egghead who is prone to making bad Athletic decisions. You manage that by hiring a good AD to keep the chancellor in check. We will know very shortly if we have that AD...
  18. Best I can do for mizzou is say I really don't care about the outcome. Honestly, tho, I would be shocked if mu didn't get pinkeled again. It's the perfect setup for it...
  19. Assume the site's been upgrade a few times since then. Is there even a cap at this point?
  20. I think you are kicking yourself a little too much but I know the feeling. I look at it like a company that was doomed from the get go; really more bad than good came out of it but I wouldn't trade the experience. As far as the lockerrom culture - that is flat out scary. I hope to <insert deity of choice here> it is contained solely within the football team and the next coach can change it withough having to turnover the entire roster. The culture issues will linger longest of all, as everyone here know...
  21. If this is too off-topic, please move... I figured out what bothers me about this situation. Cult warning signs: Ten warning signs of a potentially unsafe group/leader. 1. Absolute authoritarianism without meaningful accountability. 2. No tolerance for questions or critical inquiry. 3. No meaningful financial disclosure regarding budget, expenses such as an independently audited financial statement. 4. Unreasonable fear about the outside world, such as impending catastrophe, evil conspiracies and persecutions. 5. There is no legitimate reason to leave, former followers are always wrong in leaving, negative or even evil. 6. Former members often relate the same stories of abuse and reflect a similar pattern of grievances. 7. There are records, books, news articles, or television programs that document the abuses of the group/leader. 8. Followers feel they can never be "good enough". 9. The group/leader is always right. 10. The group/leader is the exclusive means of knowing "truth" or receiving validation, no other process of discovery is really acceptable or credible. EDIT: I'm sure it's just my paranoia...
  22. The practical answer is Bo has distrusted the media, fans, admins with words/actions. That rubs off even if Bo doesn't say. BP is not a "tow the company line" guy at all. It could just be the vestige of his baggage. If that's the case, the next coach should be able to repair that, although could take a couple seasons. I'm now preparing myself for a Jonestown style kool-aid fest at BP's house for Christmas. Pelini family will be gone, note on the door for all the players that says "Kool-aid in fridge, help yourself to some punch & cookies" or some such nonsense... Anything less than that & I can deal with his exit...
  23. Based on the tweets, it's obvious the players have some trust issues (with admins, fans, media is probably jusitified imo). These may be completely valid. They are also very hard to come back from if lack of trust gets ingraned in the team culture. My view right now is everybody is a bit in the wrong, just need to repair the damage and hope it's short-lived...
