  1. 250 yards in the 1st half. The last drive by Beck was trying to be aggressive and on 3rd down the refs decided to use selective reffing on the intentional grounding (especially bad considering the exact same thing happened on Georgia's last offensive play). It didn't lead to anything by Georgia so I can't fault him. Overall the refs have been sketchy, but we've had sketchy reffing in our games every game this year. The defense has given up something like 275 yards on defense, but the effort is much greater than we've seen so far this year.
  2. The top of the SEC is pretty good, but the other 9-10 teams in the conference wouldn't do better in the B1G, Pac 12, or Big XII.
  3. That s what was reported in the news Since it's SEC ball they just assume his grades will pick up this coming semester. It's the DT that was ruled academically ineligible, not Jarvis. Though they both have the last name Jones.
  4. He was trying to be aggressive, UGA had it covered well and we get selective reffing.
  5. Need to get off the field on 3rd down, but overall the d has stood up pretty well.
  6. Vince Ferragamo was the starting quarterback in the Super Bowl. Just sayin' Berringer never had the chance to prove himself in the NFL. Who's to say he would have eventually lead a team to the Super Bowl. We can only look at Berringer's potential and it looks like he had the tools to be the most successful at the next level.
  7. I wouldn't put Berringer as one of our 10 best QBs. He's definitely one of the greatest and most memorable Huskers and probably had the greatest pro potential as a QB to ever come through Nebraska, but I still wouldn't put him up there. The problem with Martinez is that he's the starting QB during a lot of change in the program. Looking back at the games he's started, we probably would be averaging 7 or 8 wins a year instead of the 9+ we have over the last 3 years. In 2010 Martinez was the most explosive player on the field until he rolled his ankle against Missouri, if he doesn't play we're probably looking at an offense that repeats 2009's performance. In 2011 there simply wasn't anyone else, and since there wasn't anyone else Martinez learned how to be a game manager. Learned how to not try to hit a home run every play and take what he could get from the defense. Now in 2012 we have a Martinez who's stepped up his passing and his production has jumped up accordingly. He's really loose with the football but it seems like we've gotten use to it and like work the game plan around it. It definitely needs to be addressed, but it also hasn't really held us back either. I'm excited to see what Beck and Martinez have in store for next year.
  8. If Martinez gets better next year, puts up similar or better numbers next year, but doesn't win the B1G championship he will still be a top 5 QB at Nebraska. If he puts up similar numbers next year he will be so far above and beyond anyone that it would be hard to keep him out of the discussion.
  9. They can call it a Dynasty, it's just not as good a run that NU had from '92-'97.
  10. Sure the 3 NCs in 4 years is something to puff your chest out at (a great feat no matter what). You really don't enter the picture until you're playing for a NC in 4 out of 5 years and go 60-3 in those 5 years.
  11. People are worried about DT because even though we have a lot of bodies, practically every single one of them are young and unproven. The only 2 players we have coming back with experience are Randle and Rome. A JUCO DT would be a good stop gap. That and we've swung and missed on every single DT we've tried to grab in recruiting.
  12. As an offense we have over 6000 yards for only the 5th time in school history ('82-'83, '95, and '97 were the other years). There have definitely been some problems at times, but you don't see that production without being really good.
  13. That's the thing about to team, I don't think there is anyone on the team that has anything bad to say about Pelini as a person. He has a mystique around him that has been fanned by media about being a hot head. He is really passionate on the sideline, but he absolutely has improved over the last few years. But there is absolutely nothing bad being said from inside the program. Not even really anything hinted at. It seems like there's two perceptions with the team, the ones we have as fans hearing rumors and 2nd hand stories and the perception that the team has (which is also true about every program).
  14. We could barely run in '09. The two best defenses we saw that year (OU and Texas) we averaged less than 150 yards of total offense and 11 PPG. We had just over 2000 yards rushing and 2400 yards passing, Combine Ameer and Taylor this year (just 2 players vs the entire offense) and they meet those numbers. Our offense couldn't do anything with consistency in '09, and they only ran it straight at teams because they couldn't be trusted to do anything else. Our offensive identity that year was turtleing up and making sure we didn't screw anything up for the defense. We have over 6000 yards of total offense for the 5th time in school history, the other times '82-83, '95, and '97. If you want the '09 offense, you can have it. I'm fine with what we have.
  15. His situation is the same we had with Braylon and Charles Jackson. They didn't qualify, took the year off of football to work on school to get their grades. Main reason we stole him from Wisconsin is because Beilema took off for Arkansas, and the staff at Wisconsin is up in the air.
  16. No but we did lose to a middling Texas Tech team by 21 in a game where we did absolutely nothing and wasn't even close. We also lost to an Iowa State team we had absolutely no business losing to. This using that offense that you seem to like. The reason why we didn't lose games by a lot was because the defense in both '09 and '10 was absolutely spectacular, something that's been missing out of each of these past two years. Some of it you can attribute to moving to a new conference where most of the teams are exact opposites of the teams we faced in the Big XII. We had to create strengths very quickly to what had been weaknesses. I absolutely love our offense. Is it perfect? Absolutely not, things definitely need to be cleaned up and they definitely need to learn how to hold onto the ball. The offensive line needs to develop some consistency. But I think the skill positions would be able to start at just about any D1 school. Our WRs are the best run blockers in the nation, and they rarely drop passes. When Burkhead was healthy, we were 4 deep at RB. If given the opportunities, all of them would run over 1000 yards (all 4 averaging over 5 ypc). We also have a QB who's 27 yards away from running for 1000 yards. Oh and by the way he's also thrown for over 2700. Outside of the center, LG, and TEs, the team loses absolutely no one on offense. Add to that the fact that our schedule lightens up with us dropping Wisconsin and OSU for Purdue and Illinois, and it's very likely that we'll put up even greater numbers next year.
  17. Crick had a pretty big game against Tech in '09, but the Tech QB (nicknamed Sticks) played out of his mind on their 3 TD drives. There were so many tight throws that had to be on target or they were going to get batted down or intercepted especially on 3rd and longs. Outside of those drives though, they really didn't do anything.
  18. Kuechly, the LB from Boston College, was an absolute beast. He was the Butkus award winner in '10 and '11 and had stats just as good or better than David in those two years.
  19. While lurking on huskermax just now I came across some interesting stats. When was the last time we had 6000 yards of offense in a season? When was the last time we had 2 1000 yard rushers? (Martinez is 27 yards away) When was the last time we had a 2500 yard passer and a 1000 yard rusher? When was the last time we had our top 5 rushers over 5 ypc? When was the last time we went over 3000 yards rushing in a season? Crazy thing is that the offense could be even more crazy next year (combination of weaker schedule and how many people we have coming next year). Here's to Beck and the offense.
  20. The refs did review it, they showed just how messed up they were when they didn't call anything on the play. I dont' even think they really called anything on the field. The play happened, Allen picked up the fumble and returned it for a TD while the refs were just looking at each other. They finally just called him down. Absolute sham of reffing on that play.
  21. The biggest thing I'm seeing is that the team has absolutely no clue on how to stop the snowball effect. 1 thing goes bad (against OSU it was Miller's run, Wisconsin it was out inability to get off the field on the first few drives) and it leads to another and another and another. In the comeback victories this year there was never one play that started a snowball effect, where the defense started pressing, trying to cover up other people's mistakes and missing out on there own responsibilities. Last nights loss was unacceptable. Wisconsin played absolutely lights out and if they had brought that team to every game they played this year, I don't think they'd have a loss. Sometimes no matter what you do as a team just does not work. It sucks when it happens. Keep the head up and get prepared for Georgia.
