  1. I think Hardrick's the starter, but Sirles will see just about as much time as him. I'm going to say no on Marlowe being the #2 behind Kinnie it's going to be one out of the 4 of Jean-Baptiste, Enunwa, Cooper, or Henry. I'm looking forward to seeing Jean-Baptiste and Enunwa get some playing time this year. Both look like physical specimans and if they develop probably have the talent to get to the NFL. Though I do like the idea for Gomes and Smith to start. Gomes and West seem more of the sort to be FS. I'd like them more as a free roamer in centerfield over having to play up at the line. Oh sure outside of the outside CB spots (manned currently by Amukamarah and Dennard) the other 4 DB spots are practically interchangeable, but Gomes is better as a ballhawk over a runstopper. Oh and outside of Crick I don't think we'll see a DT start next to him consistently. The Pelini's will play to their strengths. Someone might be a bit quicker on his feet, so he'll start against someone like Texas Tech with their wide splits (if they even have them this year). A team's more run oriented, bring in the bigger guy who can take up blockers for the LBs and DBs.
  2. About someone playing much earlier than expected, well they probably weren't expecting for either Whaley or David to just step in at the beginning of the season. The coaches were probably leaning on Fisher, Compton, and Martin to hold the line while Whaley and David developed to bring some depth.
  3. Went to my local library yesterday and what did I see? The Plattsmouth Library is raffling off a signed Suh jersey as a fundraiser for either the library or something else, didn't really look at the case too close. But I do know it's a legit signed jersey and that it was signed in Denver and comes with the certificate of authenticity. Now I just have to win the damn thing and I'm set.
  4. The offense didn't really start taking off in '07 until Ganz took the reins and put up something like 1500 yards in 2+ games played. They also dropped 76 points on K-State a week after giving up 70 to Kansas, and then 51 against Colorado. Hell we have Ganz last year and I find it hard to find a game we lose.
  5. I really see us if we're going to lose just one game this year it's probably going to be either Texas (not going to even think that) or we're going to have a let down against Okie State the week after Texas than the A&M game. One thing that's been trending with Bo is that they have one game they lay an egg in during mid-late October. Texas is in the position for the egg, but it's too big a game and too important.
  6. He came out of high school as a pretty decently rated safety, so it explains the speed. I'm really looking forward to the football season, it's about time for it to start.
  7. I just have the feeling that A&M will be this years Okie State. A good team but they won't be able to stay with the top teams. The similarities are there, above average offense with a sketchy defense that could possibly be alright. Of course Nebraska is in the same position, but I'd take a great defense with sketchy offense over a great offense with a sketchy defense any day.
  8. I really think that David starts out as the Dime Linebacker, though it's hard to see how often he'll see the field in that position. Then as the season progresses he'll move to a starting linebacker spot. Just from what we know about him, he's like another Safety at the Linebacker spot. Fast enough to run with the running backs coming out of the backfield and the receivers coming across the middle, and hopefully physical enough to be put on an island for run plays.
  9. West was a good player for the transition from Cosgrove's defense to Pelini's. He did an adequate job as a starter in 2008, but I don't think he's talented enough to be a starter on this defense with all the talent in the defensive backfield. I think Gomes would be perfect as O'Hanlan's replacement at FS. I think he's capable of doing the same things that Matt did last year, a kind of center fielder who also came up and made tackles on those outside runs. Gomes probably has the best nose for the ball on the defense and he'd be perfect for it. Smith saw a lot of time as a backup last year and there was barely any drop off from Asante. Unless he's done bad in the off season, then I don't see anyone taking the SS spot from him. My thoughts on the Safety spot for this year are that Gomes and Smith are starting, but when a situation calls for the Dime package, then move Gomes over to the Dime spot and Thenarse comes in to replace him.
  10. I'm looking forward to going to the Nebraska/Minnesota if Nebraska plays Minnesota in Minnesota next year. One of my biggest hopes is that Nebraska is put in the same division as Minnesota so I can go see my family living in Minnesota, but also see a Nebraska game every couple years (probably the only way I could afford it).
  11. Wondering what he thinks about the move to the Big 10. Definitely a stud though looks like he'd be a great addition to the return teams.
  12. Martinez was unimpressive passing the ball in the spring game, probably did worse than Green. But he does need to get on the field.
  13. I think I'd accept the Texas/NU call more if it happened in other big games that ended in similar situations. Michigan/ND and FSU/Miami ended with the clock running off after Tate ran out of bounds and an incomplete pass by FSU. The refs didn't put the extra second back on in either of those games, so Texas was beneficial to an exception and not the rule.
  14. Had an appointment at Children's on Friday, bummed that I just missed him but it's probably for the best. Gave him more time with the little kids that were there.
  15. Don't think a whole lot of people are looking at this year being a NC run (looking more towards next year, just waiting for the schedules). But I don't think you'll find too many people not looking forward towards a Big XII title run and at least putting in a good championship game with a better than average chance at winning the game.
  16. The way I see it is that while Reggie did something wrong, he still produced on the field and he didn't use any performance enhancing drugs. He screwed up, but in the big picture of things, what he did wasn't too bad. He received money and benefits, exactly how did that alter his performances on the football field? The NCAA didn't void any of their victories that year did they? So those games still happened. Just use the whole situation as a warning for the future, and it seems like the NCAA has already taken it to heart with the looking into of Florida and Alabama.
  17. Saban had some words on this subject. Pretty much just came down to the fact that the agents that attempt or do give college kids money are faultless and nothing bad happens to them outside of getting their name out there for giving the money (or perks) away. Saban wants something to happen to the agents, instead of placing the complete blame and punishment on the 18-22 yo college kid and the University they are studying at.
  18. Pretty sure that's ISU and not USC
  19. Just watched it, had Nebraska going 3 straight years undefeated before falling to ASU in '96 like in real life. Guessing they're going with 4 of 5 NC.
  20. Two words: f'in awesome The hunter only brings what he needs for the hunt.
  21. Great to see Nebraska lay the wood onto Spurrier again.
  22. Sure he's 17? He's a manbeast. What a steal would it be to grab him.
  23. Think I'd prefer it to be in St. Louis. It's closer to the conference that the teams will play in, while still being neutral. But I don't know, think we might want to pass on this.
  24. No the question is What if Nebraska had made the field goal at the end of that game? So it is Nebraska beating FSU. Now the only question will be whether or not ESPN decides to give Nebraska 5 straight, or just 3 straight with the break in '96 followed by winning it in '97. 4 in 5 years isn't bad and it definitely sets the precedent for the modern era.
