  1. I like Bugeaters. A nod to Nebraska's football history (even if it is an old NCAA name). I think the name has to include either Nebraska or Omaha, otherwise I don't think it's going to be very marketable (similar to how the Royals changed their name to the Golden Spikes a few years ago). I really think the UFL should move their games to outside of the NFL season, move it to just before Spring Training. Start games in the beginning of July (after the 4th) and end things right before the pre-season. Or just move it to sometime other then the middle of the football season. What they have seems sound, a minor league that shows off player's skills for the final playoff drive, but how many tickets are they going to sell in some places (especially a place like Nebraska) when our focuses are on our more beloved teams (for Nebraska the college football team). Unless the tickets cost around 20 bucks, I don't know how many people would want to go to the games, even if the Nebraska team uses former Huskers.
  2. Just a question about the most recent game, can we still buy tickets on game-day? It would seem a little silly if they didn't sell when they're probably going to get at least half the tickets or so from walk-ups (is that even correct?). Just do you have to pre-order the tickets?
  3. I think Cassidy is playing behind Hagg in the Peso Backer spot. So we'll see only 5 players at Safety (you forgot Anthony West), plus any walk-ons or other players.
  4. Oh my god, that's all you can pretty much say. He's quicker than position players off the line, and he hits harder than anyone who's been on the show. I'd understand the Rams not selecting him (they do have 2 young d-linemen and no QB), but if the Lions pass on him then it'll go down as one of their stupidest picks ever, along with their WR picks in the first round.
  5. My thoughts, Gomes starts at FS and moves inside to be the Dime back when Nebraska needs 6 or more DBs. When Gomes moves inside Thenarse gets subbed in at FS.
  6. I really want Gomes to succeed at Safety. He's too good a playmaker to not be on the field.
  7. I remember him being average, about as well as someone could do in the rain. I don't remember them moving the ball effectively, but they were doing better than Nebraska's offense (though that's not saying much). While the ankle did effect Gabbert, the way the defense played that night I don't think it would've mattered. Remember Mizzou's only points came off of a bad snap, and a drive that started inside Nebraska's fifty that still needed some home cooking to get the touchdown (and a Nebraska DB falling down to even get them down to the goal line).
  8. They lose Johnson and I don't like there chances. He pretty much carried them through the Texas game all by himself. I think A&M is only going to have 8 or 9 wins next year.
  9. That article from bigrednetwork nice and all, but how many big backs are we going to face next year that could take advantage? 2 (Opurum and Thomas from our neighbors down south)? Idaho's a mainly passing team, so's a majority of the rest of the teams we face. Washington has a more pro-style, but do they have an RB that can run it down our throats? Texas, even though they say they want to focus more on running, will still probably be a passing team. A&M might do something, but they don't have a power back. The point is that it might be a concern, but who do we face that can take advantage of it?
  10. I'd like for a younger punter to get some work in for some of the longer punting situations we run into this year (when our offense has to stall inside our 30). It seemed for every punt that Henery boomed for over 50-60 yards, he'd have a punt that'd only go 35-40 yards. Not exactly a shank, but definitely not the best. In fact if we get a real boomer this year, only have Henery punt when we're inside the 50, play to his best strength, directional kicking.
  11. That Washington run line also lies, he had something like a 40 yard gain in the last 30 seconds of the game.
  12. The way the coaches are talking I think they're expecting that they're going to need a second LB on the field. Now that there is no Suh to take up space and act as a LB at times, I expect there to be a little drop off in our run defense. But I fully expect a year similar to Bo's 2003 defense where we ended up with like 30 ints for the year (if Gomes starts at FS I fully expect him to produce 7-10 ints).
  13. Think David might become primarily our Dime LB, whenever the coaches decide to put that 6th DB in, he'll be manning the middle. He's probably going to be the most athletic LB next year and he's shown that he can be pretty good in coverage, but I don't think he'll be big enough to crack the line-up for the base set. Give him the full year to put the pounds on, get stronger, get faster and come back and own his Senior year.
  14. Think Thenarse will be rotated to this position? Seems to be right up his alley. No pressure at being the last line of defense, can focus on his guy most of the time, and be a force run stopping and blitzing. Seems like a good idea and then have Gomes be the FS, he's too good to not be out on the field.
  15. Lee looks like he has pretty quick feet, though how that'll translate to on the field speed is something we don't know.
  16. He physically destroys anyone that he plays. Definitely someone to take a look at and pursue.
  17. Siefert (NFC North writer for ESPN) has a good article about expenses and how money-wise it'd make more sense to pick up Okung there. But then there's always the chance it could end up feeling something similar to the Pistons picking Darko over 'Melo in the NBA draft, or the Blazers picking Oden over Durant. Not saying Okung will have a bad career, it's just there's a possibility that Suh could become a transcendent player.
  18. David probably won't start contributing until towards the middle of the season (not knocking his skills, it's him learning the defense). If he'd have gotten to Nebraska at the same time as Hardrick, then I'd probably put him up there as the top LB with Martin (Compton's competent and has the possibility of being a Bo Ruud or McKweon during his good year(s), but he'll never be exceptional like Martin and David have the potential to be).
  19. I wouldn't look too hard at in-state schools not offering a guy just under a year before his signing day. It could mean they just think that no matter when they offer they think they'll have a very good chance of landing him.
  20. Any chance of moving Gomes to the other starting corner in the base sets? Gomes seemed to be on par with Prince in terms of play making ability whenever he was in, I think he'd do a good job on the outside. But then you move him inside to the nickel or dime spots so he can play in a fast linebacker position like he did last year. Nothing against Dennard, but Gomes seemed to be the better player at the end of last year (I think if things weren't working out as well as things did at the time (Gomes and Hagg playing in hybrid positions) then I wouldn't have been surprised to see Gomes starting). He definitely has the skills to make it at the next level.
  21. Good story on him in the World Herald on Sunday. Met or passed all his goals this winter (including squatting 500 lbs, crazy). Just overall excited about how things have been going for him and the team. Said to expect some big things this year (iirc).
  22. Right. Just an amazing highlight reel. I'm calling the only reason he is the #3 back in Texas right now is because he got injured. No way is he anywhere besides number 1 if he didn't get injured last year.
  23. Omaha has a little article out on the pro day. Asante improved his 40 time to 4.55, O'Hanlon ran 4.58, he also jumped 37.5" in the vert and 10' in the broad. http://www.omaha.com/article/20100311/BIGRED03/100319916#the-suh-show http://www.omaha.com/article/20100311/BIGRED03/100319918#-gold-mine-at-nu-pro-day Couple of links Rumors are that Chris Brooks ran a 4.43 forty
