  1. I can't argue with this. Anyone who tries is a bonafide apologist.
  2. Yes, in fact you can watch a lot of Frazier's freshman year on YouTube. He was always a pretty damn good COLLEGE quarterback. Which is exactly what Martinez is expected to be eventually. Sometimes he annoys the hell out of me with his forced throws and poor pocket presence, but he also brings some elements to the game that a defense has to plan for. He doesn't need to be polished, just smart and effective. I think he'll get there.
  3. No, I don't, it makes me want to work harder and better myself in hopes that I will be able to replicate that other persons success. But I guess I'm a man and I have thicker skin than that. Call it iowa syndrom, there is no logical reason for all the hate. Well, at least wyoming fans can be pissed that we got the Bobfather from them, but most of them don't even know who he is or that he was their coach. Should we apologize for our past success and totally forget about it just because other teams haven't had that success? Thats just plain stupid. So you assert that Wyoming fans don't even know their own program's history, right after saying there's no logical reason for them to dislike you? Once again, I'm a hate, and let-hate kinda guy, so I love unbridled, illogical football fan animosity. What I don't get is the coy act of 'why do they dislike us?' and people being arrogant enough to write it off as jealousy, stupidity, or insanity.
  4. That's not the fans' fault though. No matter what we say, people will take it as arrogance even if we aren't meaning to. That's just what the deal of being a fan of a prestigious program is. People from programs that aren't as prestigious will always think of what you say as looking down on them and disrespecting them. There is nothing we can do about that, no matter how hard we try. Exactly, so why make a thread and bitch about it then?
  5. The condescension just comes across that way because there's really nothing else to say. I don't think it's so much disingenuous as it's just an attempt to come across as friendly that isn't viewed by others as such. With regard to the self-proclamation of us being the "greatest fans in college football": THAT does strike me as needless arrogance. If other people outside of the program say it, that's cool, but we don't need to advertise it right on the stadium. That annoys opposing fans who come to Lincoln, and it should. (By the way: does the phrase "absit invidia" ring a bell? ) Agreed. And yes, it certainly does.
  6. Digressions aside, I live 10 minutes from Boulder, CO and have been a huge Nebraska fan since I can remember. I took hell for wearing my N gear through the painful years of 1989, 1990 when CU was beating Nebraska and playing in Nat'l title games. I attended CU and wore my red jacket in the student section in 2001 when we got obliterated (although I admit I left in the 3rd because things were getting ugly.....and not just on the field). But one thing that I got out of being a Nebraska fan growing up in a hostile 'rival's' (for lack of a better word) backyard is a little gained perspective. Nebraska fans are great, but there is a perceived aura of smugness. Yankee fans, Cowboy fans, etc get the same kind of rap. What annoys me is these stupid little threads about 'why are they not nice to us?'. Well, first of all, you're probably citing posts from maybe 1 or 2 idiots and you're taking them to heart. Secondly, their stadium is about to be invaded by a bunch of visiting fans. They most likely will then watch their team be routed by yours on their campus, and then you will condescendingly shake their hand and say 'you guys have got a nice little program here. Good luck in the WAC or Mountain West, or whatever crap conference you guys play in'. Didn't you hate it when you got a C on a test and some snob who aced it walks up and says, 'nice job. You'll do better next time'? No, opposing teams don't single Nebraska out for hatred above all. No, the announcers don't hate your team. And no, just because I'm being honest doesn't make me a closet UT fan.
  7. I agree with most of what you say there. As far as arrogance goes, I honestly feel that in order to be great to you need to be arrogant to an extent. You need to have the mentality that you're going to do what you want and the other team can't stop you, and you need to have the mentality that you're better than the next team. I think you'll be hard-pressed, for example, to find any truly great player that does not have some degree of arrogance. Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Chris Johnson, etc., are all arrogant to a degree, but they also sometimes know when to be humbling. It's why I have a tough time blaming an fan base from an AQ school (especially an upper-AQ school) from being arrogant. Nebraska hasn't done enough in the last 10 years to be overtly arrogant, but given our history, can anybody really blame us? This post is why people hate Nebraska fans. Then "people" need to get thicker skins. Getting upset over basic facts like that is childish. So 'people' say they don't like Nebraska fans because they seem arrogant. This post basically says 'yeah, we're arrogant fans'. Seems pretty self explanatory. What's worse: arrogant fans, or self-hating fans who are "embarrassed" that people are proud of their team and its accomplishments and don't hesitate to tell everyone else how terrible they are for such pride. So apparently we have two categories: arrogant and self-hating. Nothing in between. Kind of like people who disagree with a certain war must be wussified traitors. Your attempt to incite reaction by equating fandom with hot-button political issues clearly puts you into a third category. I didn't know invoking the word 'war' without specifics was a hot button political issue.

  10. Yep, and next week we'll go vanilla too because we don't want to give Ohio St. any film.

  12. For Christ sake people! The bitching on this board after the aTm game last year was relentless. Just admit that we benefited from a very crucial missed call!! It's not hard. Just say it with me...... HORRIBLE CALL!!! Glad it went our way.
  13. You can't advance muffs, I believe, so not quite a TD off the board. I think you're right. Ball must be fumbled, not muffed, for it to be advanced. Either way, huge play and horrible cal IMO
  14. That's a Washington touchdown off the board. It was huge and a horrible call. I was yelling at the ref through my TV, and the gaffe benefited my team. Awful.
  15. The biggest problem I think is his GPA. We wouldn't have to worry about all this "sum" stuff if his GPA would have been better and the only reason that was bad is mainly because of his frosh year of high school. He did very poor and the school he was at then let him fall through the cracks. When he got to a school that they actually checked on him at and he started to turn it around he was so deep it was hard for him to pull up the GPA. Also, I would bet money he has some sort of learning disability that hasn't been totally taken care of right. So, before bagging on the kid let's take into consideration not everyone is really smart and may have hurdles in learning. No reason to give up on a kid as long as he is proving he is trying. The coaches know what's going on so i'll put my faith in them on whether or not he is putting forth the effort. And as I've said before, if he can actually get here he can probably finally get the help he needs and eventually get a degree. Everyone always talks about the academic all americans, but for everyone of those there are hundreds of kids who would have never thought they could get a degree that do and changes there life forever. I'm sorry CNRed but that doesn't really work. If it was bc/ of a bad freshmen year, then the better schooling he got during soph, junior, and senior years would make him the kind of thinker/ learner that would allow him to get above the bare minimum on the ACT. If that is not the case then the GPA is hollow numbers. I work with lots of kids that have learning disabilities and multiple hurdles. I can't help but feel there is something else going on here. If he was really trying to prove himself as you say, he could get a better than BARE MINIMUM score in the whole extra year he had to get here. I agree about your all-americans vs. graduates statement but for every one of those is a student who was brought to campus, whose eligibility was exhausted and deep down the staff knew they probably never really could finish school. You remind me of someone who couldn't play sports! You know the kid that gets pissed when he sees an athlete get ahead when they didnt work for it, and you work kids with learning disabilities and multiple hurdles. What would you suggest Braylon do if this was a kid you worked with? Good God. A concern is being raised, and rightfully so, because the kid had a year to qualify and couldn't do it. That's just a fact. No one here is calling him names or chastising him. If anyone is presuming anything it's all you people who have canned excuses built in. I've now heard on this board that ACT/SAT means next to nothing, and now that GPA means next to nothing. Okay, then how about first come first serve? First 3000 undergraduate applicants make it in. Call me crazy, but I bet you don't really get on your 'soap box' concerning the prejudices and inequity of academic qualification until it affects your favorite college football team.
  16. You're kidding, right? This is the guy who has 3 completely different quarterbacks, and yet, by his own admission, does not change the offense with respect to who is under center at any given time. If we have had a coordinator that has utilized offensive players' strengths and maximized their potential, that's saying a lot about how piss poor the talent on that side of the ball must be. I know you're getting piled on a bit, but that just doesn't seem like a well thought out conclusion.
  17. I agree, Watson's schemes were flawless. Just a shame our guys suck so hard. You missed the point. ANY scheme that fits your personnel will work as long as the execution is there. I am not advocating Watson's termination because I hate the read option, or think he should have run off tackle instead of off guard on this particular play. It has to do with the fact that the offensive culture appears to be one that is extremely unfocused and mistake prone. It also seems to be prevalent regardless of position, whether it's running backs that put the ball on the turf, receivers dropping 7-8 balls in a single game, a quarterback that takes bad sacks, an offensive line that kills drives with pre-snap penalties, etc. Going to a different formation with a different philosophy skirts the issue that these guys are ill-prepared, and that starts in the spring and continues throughout the season. Asking a team that all ready can't execute its offense for more than 2 consecutive plays to change its philosophy week to week is ridiculous. What's always funny about a team that has a great offense is how all the fans look at the scheme, as if they have found some unbelievable formula for moving the ball. They're STILL playing with 11 guys. Guess what? Florida SUCKED this year, even though they were running the exact same offense they were when they pounded teams and were winning national championships. No defensive coordinators are looking at Oregon's offense as some kind of black art. They SEE what they're doing, but what worries them is how WELL they do it. How they don't miss blocks, and how their running backs make you pay when you make a mistake. Talent and execution.
  18. Yes he did. No he didn't, Gary Barnett called plays, just like Callahan and Osborne. That's not correct. In fact, Watson got a ton of flak for his predictable play calling while he was in Boulder. Sound familiar?
  19. The defense did not dominate the game. That being said, that unit did more than its share. Christ, if you were told that you would go into halftime with the lead and that your defense would surrender a grand total of 6 points in the second half, how would you feel? I'll answer it for you: You'd feel great, unless your a Husker fan and by extension are very familiar with an offense that, at any time, will completely implode. Once again, you are so used to leaning entirely on the defense, that when an opposing offense plays decent against them, it's magnified. 2 field goals in 30 minutes of play seem back breaking when your f'ing offense does NOTHING. I know you've levied some criticism of Watson, but do you think he should be here next season? I apologize if you're on record on this matter, but I don't want to search the archives.
  20. The anger on this board is typical. I'm angry as well. I'll come down off the ledge, but I'm still up here for now. I have to say that after a discouraging performance like this, I'm not particularly looking forward to the WHOGIVESAF#$K.COM bowl, let alone next season. I'm sure I'll get there. But until I do, cut me, and those that feel the same, a little slack please.
