  1. Like what the defense has done, granted they have leas than no offense without 1, but still many good things. I don't see Rutgers winning this.
  2. Game over. Can double score around half with a stop.
  3. I'm getting cold feet. I don't know if it's the reluctance of anyone from Nebraska to talk about this game. Even the papers were just rehashing this morning. Maybe it's the fact I know Nebraska's defense has yet to get after it the way Eastern Michigan did. Perhaps it's the injuries and youth Nebraska is going to play, but many of Rutgers' players have yet to even play a road game. Logically, I know Rutgers lacks offensive playmakers and while that defense is scrappy, it's also being overrated. But I can't shake this late night feeling. Probably just that that burrito I ate.
  4. That the Rutgers game will be canceled to write 50 more articles on Eichorst and Riley.
  5. The injuries would concern me a lot more if Rutgers had any semblance of an offense. I think everyone by now is aware that this is a team you beat if you just don't hand them scores.
  6. Of course it was, just as it was in any conference in those days. Most of your competition didn't care that much until football became a big money sport.
  7. Those three teams sure have their fair share of them in the NFL. But I don't know what you guys mean by "pro style offense". Maybe the pros don't run one.
  8. I'm concerned about that, too. I'm not sure he really enjoys that part. But assistants play a big part in recruiting because that's where the relationships are. Head coaches are closers. I wonder if Frosts grounded nature can sell him to mamas....that's huge when your getting their baby boy to come halfway across the country.
  9. If he sucks, he sucks. One of the great things about the linked video is how it humanizes the job. Humans make mistakes, and sometimes need to be replaced.
  10. Totally. Both teams may just try to grind it out and punt a lot. Expect a lot of risk averse decisions.
  11. I really hope not. That's probably the only way Rutgers generates a downfield attack. No, I want the full Diaco on this one. Make that limited offense beat you.
  12. And I think they get it this season, just not tomorrow. NIU didn't do them any favors.
  13. I don't think I'm being clear enough....we are already there. The NCAA already recommends one day a week of full contact. You may not get next season's offense installed before that becomes mandatory. Big changes are coming, and very soon. But we we are getting off point here. The original point is, whatever you run is only as good as you practice it. What offense we run isn't failing, how we prepare to be able to execute it, is.
  14. I agree. You last as long as your promise of success allows....which is why Pelini got longer than Callahan and almost certainly Riley. All that native son talk changes the minute you take the job. Because there is one universal rule of all leadership positions....someone is always complaining about them.
  15. The problem with football stats is we don't quantify much, at least in terms of public data, and a lot of what we do quantify isn't done accurately (tackles most famously). Most people would agree that offensive line play is very important, yet it isn't directly measured in the box score. A lot of advanced metric sites get around this by inventing new stats, but that requires watching a lot of tape. So, the only way we can is by watching, too, hence my comment. (Though, even in a perfect environment, I'm a fan of combining analytics with traditional scouting, they really serve two purposes.) When you watch Rutgers, you immediately see why looking at their stats gives a false impression. They just aren't very talented at all. That's hard to tell in the box score playing Eastern Michigan and Morgan State. Even against Washington, I'd say that result is more in Washington's favor if played in week 3 vs week 1. They just took a bit to get going in that game.
  16. Thats exactly what's happening. Some lobby to go so far as eliminating the 3 point stance, which at that point you're basically not playing football anymore, IMO.
  17. Have you watched Rutgers? It will give you a better context for their stats.
  18. On paper, that offense works, but logistically it's a problem. It's just becoming harder and harder to get the practice reps needed, especially full contact reps. The NFL has strict limits on them, the PAC has a limit of two a week, the NCAA has banned two-a-day and is constantly looking at similar measures as the aforementioned. The risk of head injury, in particular, is being taken very seriously. Football is not the same game it was in the 90s.
  19. In a perfect system, you'd always want a QB run threat, because it breaks basic football math (Safety vs QB exchange). But you'd also want a drop back passer, because that also breaks basic football math (8 defensive zones vs 4 rushers).
  20. The quiver is never out of arrows. Sometimes this is a volume game.
  21. The basic principles of football never go out of style, and right now Nebraska is not very good at some of these basic concepts. It doesn't matter how fancy you make something, you must perform the basic element of that defense.
