Shilique Calhoun: "Dirty play" threw me off at Nebraska
brophog replied to Kernal's topic in Husker Football
It's ok. I'm sure nobody reads ESPN. -
You make someone else beat you. This offense doesn't have a first team offensive TD against their last three opponents. The rest of them aren't exactly unstoppable.

He plays vs Indiana, Washington St, Norfolk St (and Sparty) He misses most of Ohio St, Wisconsin, and Michigan. He's a good receiver regardless, but twitter's limits means it's easy to put up such remarks without any context.

Also, if you're still stalking me mr newspaper guys can you please let Mr Perlman know that the word 'everyone' doesn't mean what he thinks it means. That'd be great.
-
Harv should have set up an automated reply that simply said: "Don't you know they almost beat Michigan St."

McKewon: Why Huskers Can't or Won't Run the Ball
brophog replied to huskerfan92's topic in Husker Football
It's a complementary play. You run it once or twice a game as a big hitter or you run it enough to allow the phantom action to open up other things. -
South Florida vs UCF at 5:30PM CDT on ESPN. Christmas has already started by then.

The issue here is that administration is in its own mess. The contract is therefore as much about giving them time to get things in order as it is about Claeys. In another year they'll get the athletic department settled, and will be able to see how many of the qualities they liked in Kill reside in Claeys and then proceed properly from there.

Schedule is overall strong and unlike most of the teams it isn't heavily back loaded. ND's schedule gets relatively weaker though as the backloaded Big Ten and Big 12 catch up. Have you looked at their schedule? It is anything but "strong." They didn't play a team with a winning record until the first week of October when they lost to Clemson. They beat Texass, Virginia, Georgia Tech, and UMass before losing to Clemson. They went on to get their best win of the year against Navy, beat a USC team that just fired their HC, Temple, and then Pitt. They finish with two bad games in 3-6 Wake Forrest and 1-7 BC before playing at Stanford. Overall ND shouldn't be in the Top 10 with that schedule. It isn't as bad as Iowa's, but it isn't much better either. If they make the playoff, then this committee is a total failure. SOS rankings by various methods Sagarin: ND 16 Iowa 56 RPI: ND 19 Iowa 56 Colley: ND 7 Iowa 60 Anderson/Hester: ND 11 Iowa 42 Massey: ND 3 Iowa 48 Football Outsiders: ND 1 Iowa 99 There is a lot of variance because the methods are very different. Some are based on pure wins, others are simulation based, etcetera (some only give the public the basic framework but are not fully transparent in their method). I think anyone can see that none of these methods has Iowa and Notre Dame having similar rankings.

Holy misleading thread title, Batman.

Shilique Calhoun: "Dirty play" threw me off at Nebraska

Both teams could send a binder of complaints to the office. -
It all depends on how many teams lose. Right now the best scenario for that is probably Ohio St losing to Mich St in a close game and Iowa winning out, and enough other teams losing for Ohio St to climb back to 4th. LSU could climb back as well. I know that wouldn't go over well here. The committee has shown a willingness to move teams up and down without requiring a team above them to lose as the other polls mostly do. Between that and a lot of loss opportunities for top teams, I don't really look at anybody in the top 10, maybe even top 13, being totally out of the picture. We saw a lot of movement like that last year. I totally agree that we can't paint teams in or out at this point. I would say we can maybe look all the way down to 15 (though I feel Mich/st/TCU/Utah are all a bit behind). Mass chaos can still ensue! If I'm understanding the scenario correctly, Ohio St loses to Mich St whom would lose to Iowa in the conference title game. So we're jumping into our way back machine and arguing if teams need to play in their title game. (And to make it more interesting maybe arguing against other teams whom don't even have one!)

We didn't get a good look because so many tops played bottoms. I don't know what watching Iowa and Wisconsin beat bottom east teams is supposed to tell us. Next year gets fun, though.

I think Stanford has a decent shot. Yes, they need help. Several of the other teams don't, they can just win out. Stanford could potentially still play a very highly ranked Notre Dame and Utah. They then need either the Big Ten or Big 12 to open the door. First the Big Ten only has one really strong scenario, Ohio St winning out. That's pretty much a sure fire playoff berth. Iowa winning out, even over an undefeated Ohio State, is not necessarily strong enough to guarantee a spot due to a strength of schedule that won't improve much. Mich/Mich St are both bigger reaches, thanks to our contribution. The Big 12 has many scenarios. The weakest is TCU. They were suspect before the loss. Oklahoma has been thought for dead, but still having the three other potential candidates on the schedule gives them lots of ammo, and they're playing well enough to run it. I think most are assuming an undefeated Big 12 team is in, but that's easier said than done. Is there a scenario right now that would have two teams of a conference make it in? I'm not sure there is. But we're all assuming Clemson wins out, too. If they lose this gets busted wide open.

Says an awful lot about what they thought of Kill in making this hire.

They're trying to thwart our ninja like ballot stuffing prowess.

Absolutely, as our schedule (weak as it may be) is still superior to theirs and we share their best conference opponents.
