  1. Imo, no he doesn't have a chance. How does he compare to Walker? I thought I read somewhere on here that they thought Kitrell was better...it is very possible I just made that up too.
  2. This was the part I was surprised about, you would have thought it would have been the perfect time for Riley to start (almost) totally fresh and bring in a lot of new guys but I can also see why he would bring in people he was comfortable with. Maybe he thought that a change of environment and 'better' athletes would have helped him? Coaching with a guy for as long as he did he probably was trying to give him a try...comfort level or whatever. I feel he made the right move and I applaud Riley for making the tough decision.
  3. Bring in Wistrom to work the dline with Parella...one can dream!
  4. Great news for Husker Nation... welcome aboard!!!
  5. I did a quick count of the DL looks on that video (I'm no expert), and keeping in mind these are only the plays that resulted in sacks and not a representative sample of how they play otherwise, I counted 5 times they brought 3 DL, 14 times they brought 4 from a hand in the dirt (looks like a 4-3 to me), 3 times they brought 4 with 3 DL and one stand-up rusher, 10 times they brought 5 , and 1 time they brought 6. So that's roughly 14 (3+10+1) times they "blitzed" with stand-up rushers and got home out of 33 sacks. Should be noted that ND had some studs that simply whipped the OL on many occasions. When I heard we were looking at BD, I looked at 3-4 defenses. I'll try to find it, but had a site showing a team (NFL maybe) that ran a base 3-4, then showed all the variations you mentioned where their LB's were tweeners (DE/LB) who could cover in peace, but put a hand in the dirt as well. Don't know how a 3-4 will hold up to the likes of Wisky OL as an example..... Easier to recruit for? Less completion for NT? I have no idea. Wisconsin has run a 3-4 on Defense since Bielema left, and it's been really good against the rest of the league. The HS I coach at recently made the change to a 3-4 and it as tough at first, but I love it. Fits our athletes better and can keep the offense guessing with who is coming and who is dropping. I feel we were able to get more of our athletes on the field. Will definitely be interesting how the current guys fit in and if there will be big time growing pains.
  6. I asked this same question. It is/was a lose-lose situation. Well, win for the Huskers getting rid of his defense anyways!
  7. Not sure how else Riley could have handled this. I get Bankers point, but if Riley tells him he needs to get back to Lincoln ASAP what does Banker think is going to happen. Unfortunate it went down like this, but move on.
  8. He has been quoted as being solid to the Goofs in the media...however, Fleck may not want him!
  9. Anyone have the time to look up what Langs is making? Would be interesting to see how he ranks in pay compared to others in conference, nation, playoff, etc. Gotta believe the checkbook will be opened here...if not, the writing is on the wall for MR and others.
  10. Could we pull UCLAs DC? Seems to get some top flight defensive guys. I know nothing about him or if it is the others on staff that are closing their guys? Really curious to see how this plays out. Gotta make a big hire here!!!
  11. I work with HS kids as well and I get what you are saying. However, not only is it a big decision for him and his family, but the coaches have a big decision to make as well. Just as much as his life changes, bringing in guys to compete and guys that you can trust as a coach is a coach's livelihood. Grown men/women bashing kids for these decisions is pretty amazing, but it is going to happen. I do not think I could handle the recruiting process as a coach...been through it as an athlete and it was stressful as heck!
  12. I am with you on this. I kind of want to be like you made your decision, live with it. However, maybe there was something else going on that only he and/or his family knows about. What I do know is that the coaches need to put the time in with the guys that want to here at Nebraska. If this kid is showing any hesitation the coaches have to move on if they cannot trust him or know where he truly stands.
  13. Some are reading into the actions/emotions. Maybe he was just super nervous and that is how he acts. I don't think there was a shocking look on his family's faces. Who knows...something went down and only Jamire really knows. Will definitely be interesting to see if he sticks or ends up somewhere else.
  14. It was a big ol swing and a miss today! Wonder what the ending of the dead period will bring with new offers or back pedaling by the staff to get back in with guys we may have moved on from
  15. Maybe they don't want to deal with him anymore...if indeed he was silently committed than we just move on. It is crazy how fing stupid our society acts now with social media. Not that we didn't before, but it is more in your face. Kids flip back and forth. No different than if we were to have several job offers and you weigh the options. Sometimes some factors begin to outweigh others.
  16. The U of M is a complete dumpster fire...the ENTIRE UNIVERSITY! The academia world does not seem to support the athletic world and the administration is in complete disarray! There are some serious trust issues...living here and having friends that were/are involved in the university it is interesting. I like Fleck, but I would not be shocked if he moves on within 3-5 years again to something much bigger and better is he finds success with the goofs.
  17. It is definitely a promising hire for MN. I listened to Fleck at the MN Football Coaches Association clinic last spring...he was an amazing speaker and I could see him coming to MN and rallying the fanbase. He seems to be able to pretty much whatever he wants at Western Michigan and does a great job. Being in a bigger setting would be interesting to see how it goes for him. This would be a huge hire for MN and would put them on the map in a positive way.
  18. Foster by far was the best OL we had and he only played in a few games. I can understand that Barnett is really good, but Gates did not have a pray the entire game...not even close!!! Really wish Sarrell would choose the Huskers...that would make a lot of people feel better, especially the returning/incoming QBs!
  19. I would be surprised if we were to get him. Local kid with teammates from hs there. Still worth a look. Watched him in the state games up here and was a big body and pretty physical.
