Damn that's cold.

You can't rely on luck, and you can't let the other team have a chance to beat you when the game is on the line. That's how good teams do it. You have to make the win happen. Is it nice to have luck, yeah and SOMETIMES you need it. luck will hurt you more than it helps. Everyone likes to say that we are 4 plays away from being undefeated. They're wrong. We are 40 some bad playcalls, a poorly managed RB situation and a crap coverage scheme from being undefeated.

Is anyone? Some people think we just need better players. While you can always apply that theory, Sam's take was that our secondary scheme is basically content to allow 5-7 yard passes with zero contention. The problem is, we've been having such bad gaps in coverage (ala Miami 1st quarter) that it's been 15-20 yard passes being completed easily. He also said our defensive gameplan against Wisconsin was bizarre because UW has the worst receiving corp in the conference, and one of the worst in the entire country, and yet we were giving them 10 yard cushions. For playing a soft zone, we're giving up a inordinate amount of PI calls. He said what many of us have been saying, we need to play press more. This would also help give our blitz packages more time to hit home. Make the different positions help each other out.

Do they not practice with refs or someone looking out for penalties? No reason to be this sloppy.

Talk to Nate Gerry about not having stone hands or the rest of the secondary who dropped to more easy INT's. That isn't on the coaches, they were all in position and in Gerry's case the ball hit him in the numbers. That is because TA can't hit the broad side of a barn right now. Which ties into the third point is that we don't have any good RB's right now. Not at least of the level we were used to with Helu, Burkehead, and Ameer to hide how bad the OL is. I disagree with everything but your TA comment. I think our passing game has just hit a brick wall all together, not just him. I haven't been impressed with some of our WRs not fighting for the ball. It is entirely on the coaches we aren't forcing turnovers. You play like you practice. They need to run through drill after drill after drill to get it right. Gerry isn't the only one missing INTs. Everyone in our secondary has missed multiple picks by simply not locating the football. That's coaching. They need to pick 2 main backs and a 3rd to spell and stick with it. You can't expect them to improve with inconsistent reps. The OL is a discipline issue. No reason to be lining up the backfield(They're cheating their pulls) and holding so much. That's coaching.

Luck has nothing to do with it. You can't leave football games up to luck. You make your own luck. Take the opportunity away from the other teams. We're dead last in pass defense. Not getting consistent pressure on QBs (I'll admit injuries are killing us here). We constantly let teams out of 3rd & forever. We aren't forcing turnovers. The offense isn't helping the defense with points and TOP. We're rolling a d20 to determine who plays RB every week. We aren't winning field possession. You won't win games with that formula. You can't rely on luck. You have to rely on discipline, character & desire.

Next weeks game plan needs to be tailored to Tommy running and Ozigbo/Stevenson/Jano. You burned the shirt, use the player. Our passing game is just non-existent right now. Start rebuilding this offense with a game plan we can run next week. They seem to have really lost their confidence on offense.
