  1. Les Miles Nick Saban Mack Brown Urban Meyer Chris Petersen Chip Kelly Gary Patterson Frank Beamer Bob Stoops Jim Harbaugh (In the NFL now) Jim Tressell (In the NFL now) Pete Carroll (In NFL now... again) Steve Sarkisian Gene Chizik Paul Johnson Mark Richt Bobby Petrino Steve Spurrier I am sure i am missing a few. As for hating on Bo, I think he can be as good as all but a select few on this list; he just needs time to develop some coaching skills. How long that will take? who knows....
  2. I dont want to make excuses for everyone, but we werent playing for much. - It was Thanksgiving weekend - Friday game when people had to work - No change of CCG - No chance at BCS game - Iowa isnt seen as a rival by NU fans, more like the annoying little step brother. - Pelini hasnt been particularly friendly to the Husker fans over the years - Half of Iowa are NU fans. Season ticket holders probably didnt know they were selling to Iowa fans. just a few thoughts.
  3. i will be at UCLA game and maybe NW
  4. You really think OSU will get the death penalty? Seriously? Also, why do you really want the NCAA to have that much say in your program? Telling you how much you can spend on a coach? They are no better than any of the coaches or administration found at the member institutions. I don't get why you are so pissy about another school hiring a coach. You don't know if he will be a flop or a success. Every situation is different. No, i dont think OSU would get the death penalty and probably doesnt deserve it. Yes I think the coach's salary should be penalized. Administration failed to monitor the players AND coaches, the coach(es) lied and failed to monitor/report their players, and the players took money and benefits for years. All three levels failed, all three should be impacted. How Gene kept his job is astounding and I think speaks volumes about about the administration and possibly the culture at OSU. Yes I think if you break the rules, have documentation on several incidents for multiple players over several years.... yes the NCAA should be up in your business. You have an Administration that says its too hard to control your boosters and players...... yet a LOT of other schools can do it. I know some SEC and Texas schools do the same crap, but this isnt the SEC or Texas. Why am I pissy? Because you shouldn't get a better coach becasue your administration couldnt monitor its player or its head coach. OSU got the benefit from using 5 players that should have been inelligible for years (Pryor has been making money on the side since he was a freshman) and who knows how many countless others that no one ever found out about over the years? You guys got all those wins, got to play the in Nat Champ and all those nice bowls and got wins over other teams when you shouldnt have. Yet, the fan base seems to have little to no remorse for it. Its like: hey its ok, other schools do it. Lets go get a 5mil a year head coach and pretend like it never happened. Would I be singing the same tune if this happened at Nebraska? HELL YES I WOULD!!! Here, its about pride. What pride is there in winning if your not doing it honestly? You would see the majority of Husker fans holding their school, students, administration and its coaches accountable for their actions..... instead of acting like its trying to sweep it under the rug. As I have stated, I have rooted for OSU and was rooting for Fickle to hold you guys together. Maybe this was just a few guys making bad choices; but everything the administration has done or not done, has many outsiders questioning OSU's culture up there. Is it no better than many of the SEC and Texas teams? At one point, I thought I knew the answer, now I am not so sure. As for Meyey; dont play coy with me. Everyone here knows he is probably in the top 3 coaches int eh game today. Not just the best coach avaiable, but one that could take any top 20 team to a Nat'l championship in the next 5 years. Hell at OSU or even here at Nebraska, he could win a NC within 3 years. So, dont play that crap with me that he might suck...... we all know it was a home run for OSU. Like i said, if your administration had even pretended to care during any of this, perception would be much different to those outside of Ohio.
  5. Lady, no where did i talk about "absolutes"; you are just making up stuff, now. I clearly stated that "any given Saturday, anything can happen". I also stated that its an "average" and "most of the time". Yet, you say I am talking in "absolutes"? /sigh Yes, Pat is a better coach, havent you been reading this thread? Clearly our idea of a good team differs. OSU was 6-6, and they were good? Yet, you imply NW,that is also 6-6, isn't very good. I give up... We can agree to disagree, I guess.
  6. It is all very possible with the amout of lying Bo does...... he could have told TO he wasnt looking, then TO hears about him ineterviewing and calls him on it. I think that is a very likely scenerio. We know Bo asked in the past, but TO gave him a raise after the last one to stop him from looking again (after Miami). Now he is looking again.... and TO is ticked off. Why give him the raise last year if he is ready to jump ship already? I am sure Da Skers knows more than me, but as the saying goes, if the shoe fits....
  7. Worst Coaches in the B1G this year? 1. Dantonio-We won 2. Bradley-We won 3. Ferentze-We won 4. Fickell-We won Yep. Using your logic we should just discontinue our football program as we'll not win a single game next year. Would you stop putting words in peoples mouths. I never said that. I was saying this is going to make it tougher for us. If you fail to see that, than thats your own issue that I wont try to change. sigh, some people... I was just using your reasoning! Good grief! I was going to ask if you were a Husker fan or from Ohio State? Those men ARE good coaches but to say that just because Meyer is now the new coach we'll automatically lose 4 games? Good grief! How can you make such statements??? please show me where i said we will "automatically" lose those games? I said on average, how does that equate to "automatically"? On average, we would lose 2-3 games in the B12 due to two teams able to do the things i listed above..... 2008 we lost to Stoops, Leach and Pinkel (didnt play Brown). Would argue against Pinkle as better than Bo 2009 we lost to Brown, Leach. Beat Stoops. 2010 we lost to Brown, Stoops. We have a track record of getting beat by better coahes with better recruits. Its not rocket scinece, most teams with better coaches and better recruits win the games. Granted, not every game goes as planned, but we are looking at averages not automatics. You think it will be any different with Meyers? do you only see things in black and white? Why is there no grey with some Husker fans?
  8. Worst Coaches in the B1G this year? 1. Dantonio-We won 2. Bradley-We won 3. Ferentze-We won 4. Fickell-We won Yep. I was saying this is going to make it tougher for us. If you fail to see that, than thats your own issue. /sigh, some people...
  9. You forgot one. I like when people use coaches as a determinant as to if we win or not. We beat Bob Stoops, so he must not be as good of a coach as Bo Pelini. I said average losses, not guaranteed. I dont recall every game against stoops, but i am pretty sure Bo only beat him once at home. Overall, i think we can all agree stoops is a better coach right now. We all know any given saturday, anything can happen. But its hard to win consistantly when you ahve 3-4 programs in the conference that can out-recruit or out-coach us. Thats just life. I like Pelini, i hope he sticks around, but he has a tough road in front of him. Atleast in the Texas 10, we only had to worry about Stoops and Brown.
  10. chalk up another loss every season. With his coaching and recruiting, I see another team stompoing us every time we play them (see texas). We will probably loose the McMullen recruit from Ohio now as well. Overall, this is horrible for the Huskers. Best coaches in Big10 this year? 1. Hoke - We lost 2. Fitzgerald - We lost 3. Bielema - We lost add in Urban, and now we will have 4 loses per year on average. All 4 can out-coach us and out-recruit us, save for Fitz recruiting (for now atleast).
  11. First of all, we did not cheat, the head coach lied...there is a difference. Oh, he resigned before he got fired. I fail to see how this hire equals us to Texas? Really? First, you DID cheat. Your coach played players he knew would be inelligible, if he had reported the issues like he was supposed to. How is that not cheating? Playing players that would otherwise be inelligble is cheating. Second. You can call it whatever you want, resign or fired. Point of the fact is, if he didnt resign, he would have been fired. We all know the truth here, dont hide behind symantics. Third. How do you compare to Texas? You cheated, you got away with it, and because of your money and football power; you are able to hire a better coach because of all that money and power. That is Texas; above the law and doesnt have to follow rules that everyone else has to (and they know it, much like OSU). They can do whatever they want because they have money.... same as OSU is doing. I cant belive I use to root for OSU. I am disgusted and may have to root for Michigan; they may be elitist a$$hole$, but atleast they dont condone cheating and paying players like they do up at OSU.
  12. anyone else get tired of hearing Bo interviewing for any position he can? I am tired of his talk of loyalty and bothers, and yet he does this crap. I wanted to give Bo more time to shine, but this is just BS. I hope TO just fires him.
  13. so one coach cheats and the school is able to bring in a better coach? I think the NCAA should implement a 1mil limit for their head coach for the next 4 years. That would stop them from doing crap like this. I use to respect OSU, now they are no different than Texas to me. They can cheat, get caught and it doesnt matter. Hopefully they get the death penalty so we can all laugh.
  14. I think we have both recruiting and coaching problems…. When people are comparing recruiting to TO, you have to realize that TO and his staff COULD find 3 star players and coach/develop them into NFL drafted players. So, to compare TO players to Bo players is really comparing apples to oranges. If you can’t develop or coach up players, you need to recruit. If you can recruit, you don’t need to such great coaches to be great. If you can do both, you have national championship runs like Alabama, LSU, Oregon, Oklahoma and OSU over the last decade. From my view, Bo came in and had a talent filled Callahan team, they just needed some direction. He did great his first three years, much like Solich did his first 4 years with Tom O's talented teams. Solich let recruiting slide and with some of Toms staff retiring, he couldn’t develop the talent like TO and staff could. I see the same thing playing out with Pelini. Now that Callahan’s recruits have ran out, we are seeing the impact on the field. I think Callahan could find not only physically talented recruits, but also mentally ready athletes. They say 90 percent of being great is mental; the other 10 percent is physical talent. In my opinion, Bo knows physical talent and knows instinct, but he has had issues finding the mental guys, the guys that TO and Callahan could find. (Rex is one of the few exceptions as well as his JUCOs). I think Bo needs some help from his staff; he needs more experience with both recruiting and developing. I don’t have a solution for him, other than Barney has let him down. I don’t question Cottons dedication, it’s just that some people have “it” and some people don’t. I don’t think Barney has it, and wont no matter how hard he tries. He needs some old salty dude that he respects and will listen to, someone that can help him identify more than just raw talent and help teach the staff how to get the most out of those players every weekend. I think we have a slightly better Solich now.... Good, but not great. Bo can recruit better than Solich, but not as well as Callahan. Bo can develop some players, but if they aren’t mentally ready, he will struggle with them. The question is; can husker nation settle for being just good? Or, will their desire to return to greatness wear on their patience before Bo and Staff gets better at recruiting and developing it? Only time will tell.
  15. He wasn’t at OU or LSU long enough to use his own recruits, he used Stoops and Les recruits. Same with the first three years of solid D here at Nebraska.... he used Callahan’s recruits. As soon as Callahan recruits are gone, our defense falls apart. Coincidence? I am starting to think not. I don’t question his defensive intelligence. What I think people are questioning are his recruiting and development skills. We have new assistance on defense, but it didn’t help that he hired guys without much experience with player development.
  16. If we wanted to play scared or safe, we should have kept Watson. I liked the call, go for their throats. The only play i didnt like was the 4th and 2 - pitch right. I understand the play has worked for us....... but you cant call the same play 3 times in a row when a 4rth down is on the line (and the game). Run a counter, bootleg, fb up the gut, etc.
  17. Enhance, make the all the excuses you want. I have no need to bicker with you over your crooked opinion of qualified. I could spend the next three paragraphs showing how your one sided examples of their brief and over exaggerated credentials is laughable, but it would be a waste of time. If you think the coaches are performing, good for you. They aren’t for me, and I think the player’s performance speaks for itself. Minus Rex, no other group is performing up to par this year. But, I am sure you can come up with a paragraph worth of excuses for that as well.
  18. Really? You think him hiring his high school buddies was a "good" decision? Honestly, it's really tough not to laugh at you right now. You have given these coaches, after making several changes, absolutely no time to become cohesive and work together. What, you think losing one of the best secondary coaches in the nation and making a multitude of other personnel changes means everything is going to be lean and dandy right away? Incumbents mixing with newbies isn't going meld together so simply. I respectfully suggest you think before you post about that which you are clearly not understanding or have too high expectations of. Ah yes, having hope that a Head Coach will hire some people with proven track records in coaching and recruiting; is my out of this world expectations. Instead he hires his BROTHER, a bunch of HS coaches and prior graduate assistants to fill his primary coordinator and assistant jobs. Most of his assistance have been there for four years...... Beck, Cotton, Ron Brown, Garrison, Dobson, Papuchis etc. WTF are you talking about? no time? Take off the glasses, cause you clearly cant see straight. I respectfully suggest you think before you post about that which you are clearly not understanding or have low expectations of. Yes, the defense took a step back this year. Starting the season down your four best defensive backs from the previous year will do that to you. But they're starting to play better and we'll see how they finish. If you think that with Pelini's track record on defense this is anything more than a blip on the radar, I don't know what to tell you. Now, our offense is averaging 34.7 points per game this season. That is our second highest scoring output since 2001. For a first year offensive coordinator, new WR coach, new RB coach, new offensive line coach, new TE coach, and a bunch of freshman and sophomore players. I think it's pretty tough to rationally criticize Pelini's hiring practices at this point. Keep in mind, we averaged 37.1 points per game through the first 9 games last year.... I am not at all calling for B'os head. Quite opposite really, i have posted many time I support Bo on these forums..... at good times and bad. I think he is a good coach with the ability to be a great (will take many more years though). I think he is very wet behind the ears, but he has potential. I blame most of the other coaches for most of our issues for the last few years. THeir lack of experience at this level of the game causes ripples down to our players. Our players play "young" because their teachers lack the experience and wisdom. Will they evolve and mature into better coaches? Probably. I just completely disagree with Enhance89 statments that Bo hasnt done anything wrong. I also dont agree that for fans to expect anything more than "decent" is "asking too much". I know we arent a top 10 school to coach at.... but a lot of 10-25 programs (like we are) have been able to land decent assistants and coordinators. Why should we settle for less than the rest of our peers? Overall, I expected a lose to a crappy team this year (I thought it would be Iowa though). I expect it for a few more years as well. We have young coaches, coaching young players. It will take another 5-10 years to get back to where most fans want to be. I am being realistic here. I am not a "sunshine pusher" or a "off with his head" either. I like to think I am being realistic. Just so its clear; Its rediculous to say "Bo hasnt done anything wrong, he is perfect". Its also redicouls to be calling for his head.

  20. Are you being sarcastic, or for real? I am guessing a troll or just didnt use the sarcasm sign.........
  21. Really? You think him hiring his high school buddies was a "good" decision?
  22. No offense, but I am not the one making 2.5mil a year. This isnt my job, this is his job. It is a head coaches job to get his players up for EVERY game.
  23. so quick to blame the 18 year old kids. Coaches are supposed to be PROFESSIONALS. They get paid MILLIONS! On the other hand, lets blame the 18 year old AMATEURS for not adjusting your defense, not getting the line blocking schemes adjusted, etc..... This lose was all on the coaches. Most of our issues this year is coaching. Pelinis arrogance in his defensive scheme is going to be our downfall. This isnt the NFL, play to your players strengths, not what is correcct on paper. That very issue is what got Watson canned.
  24. this is what happens when your Head Coach hires his high school buddies....
