  1. I caught Steve Sipple on ESPN 1480 going home last night and he mentioned something about the attitude of this team. He said that every time this team breaks a huddle, they say "National Championship" Sipp asked one of the players about this and the player said that they watch ESPN and whenever ESPN talks about national title contenders, they never mention Nebraska and that has to stop. The whole team is feeling slighted by the media and they have a quiet confidence that this year is going to be something special. Assuming that we take care of business against Nevada and Wake, a win on the night of Sept 15 and as they say, "it's on, baby."
  2. I caught the Big Sports 590 Daily Football Fix today. (I honestly can't stand Matt Purralt, but I'll let one of my ears bleed while getting my Husker football fix on my way home from work.) Anyway, Vershon Jackson was on and they talked about 2 things during my commute. One was Jackson said something about a special weapon this year on defense and special teams, "especially special teams." Anyone care to guess? I think it's going Prince Amukamara. The other thing was a scantily clothed woman reporter at the press conference today. Actually this was the dominant topic for almost 30 minutes. I'm looking for pictures or something.
  3. My wife is a huge Husker fan and actually went down to the 96 Fiesta Bowl without me. (I couldn't get off work).
  4. His size and speed are outstanding but he's nowhere to be found on either Rivals or Scout, seems a bit odd. Hopefully he's one of those diamonds in the rough that our staff seems to uncover.
  5. Where did you hear this? I'm not saying you're lying, just wanting to know. A good friend of mine who helps out at the UNL football camps told me.
  6. Published Wednesday | June 20, 2007 NU Men's Basketball: Smith to transfer BY LEE BARFKNECHT WORLD-HERALD BUREAU LINCOLN - The Nebraska men's basketball team now is only one over the scholarship limit after Tuesday's decision by redshirt freshman guard Mike Smith to transfer. Coach Doc Sadler said Smith will switch to a junior college, with Globe Institute of Technology in New York a likely candidate. Smith is from Bronx, N.Y. Last season, the 6-foot-2, 190-pounder played in 20 of 31 games and averaged 1.4 points. He left the Huskers a year ago to attend a junior college when Barry Collier was still the coach. When Collier resigned and Sadler was hired in August, Smith returned to Lincoln. The Huskers have 14 players signed to scholarships. That number must drop to 13 by the first day of classes in late August. Sadler also commented Tuesday on the status of six incoming players: • Two freshmen already on campus - guard Cookie Miller and forward Alonzo Edwards - have been approved by the NCAA Clearinghouse, making them eligible to play this season. • Shang Ping, a junior college forward-center from Illinois Central College, is in Lincoln but still needs a passing score on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). Ping originally is from China. • Steve Harley, a first-team juco All-America guard, remains in summer school at South Plains (Texas) College trying to become eligible. • Ade Dagunduro is finishing a math class at Antelope Valley (Calif.) College and is expected to arrive at Nebraska for the second session of summer school. Also expected for the second summer session is freshman guard Brandon Richardson from Los Angeles.
  7. Being from Crete, I have had the pleasure of watching John Leverson play athletics for a long time. John is in the same grade as my oldest son. I knew this kid was an athlete watching him play little league baseball in the 3rd or 4th grade. I didn't see him play football until his 9th grade. During one game, the opponent threw a swing pass out in the flat. John was playing safety and came up and just blew the kid up, ended up breaking his collar bone. I knew I was watching someone pretty special. I know he's not the highest rated player we have, but I guarantee that he will be more a contributor to the team than a lot of the higher rated players from this class. He is one of the best athletes I have ever seen, but he's a better kid. A great addition to the team and UNL
  8. This isn't sunshine pumping this is facts. During the daily morning run, Marlon Lucky was dogging it. Corey McKeon turns around and sprints back to Lucky and pumping him up. With a minute or so, 3 or 4 other players including Lydon Murtha are getting on Lucky. Murtha basically said that I'm a big fat lineman, and I was ahead of you, c'mon. I'm working my butt off to open holes for you, you gotta do the same. Lucky, hearing all that, took off like a shot and finished the run as hard as he could go. That story, to me, speaks volumes.
  9. "Before Wyatt got to NU, Potter said he really never learned how to use very good technique. " Does anyone think that Wyatt's teaching is a whole lot different than what Potter or even Moore and Carriker were taught with the previous coaches? That's what that quote says to me.
  10. according to the KSU scout board, Huggins is WVA bound. I simply don't feel sorry for the KSU fans, in fact, I'm just about giddy over the whole thing. If the KSU fans feel bad now, wait until their heralded 2007-2008 recruiting class goes with him. I might have to have plastic surgery to remove the smile from my face!!
  11. I am not a college football expert, (even though I play one on the internet) but I simply don't see what all the fuss is about concerning Trevor Robinson. I watched this kid play live against Crete in the Class B finals and honestly did not know that he was in the game. A player of this "caliber" in a Class B high school game should stick out like a sore thumb, but he didn't. As we were leaving, I asked my friend what Trevor Robinson's number was. He may have had a bad game, and he's all he's blown up to be, that night, I didn't see it.
  12. Huskers up 8-1 in the 6th inning vs TAMU-Corpus Christi. Drew Bowman has gone all the way on the mound thus far, 7 hits 1 earned run, zero walks and 3 k's. Andrew Brown has gone deep in the first inning driving in Wehrle and Thad Weber has two hits and 2 RBI.
  13. I am sure the staff is taking a much needed break. Probably a couple of days off for most, if not all coaches, then right back to work. There's always things to do, such as getting ready for spring practice, breaking down every play of last season to see what could have been done/planned better and, of course, some time each day spent on recruiting for next year. It never stops for those guys. My thanks to them all for their hard work.
  14. With surprises like Lewis switching to OU, I'd rather pass, thank you.
  15. I saw a post on another site saying that Zach was hurt in today's game. Anyone confirm??
  16. can you post any of the good stuff so we all can share? here's some tidbits on his last couple of games Week 10 (6-4) Bulldogs 52 - (3-7) Dobie 41 Well, this game was not as close as the score indicates because the Bulldogs were never really in any jeopardy of losing this one. The highlight would have to be Quentin Castille's 6 touchdowns and 275 rushing yards. Defesnsively the Dogs gave up some big plays in the 4th quarter that allowed the Longhorns to close the gap, but it didn't really matter at that point as the crowd bailed out of the stadium to escape the pouring rain with just a few minutes remaining. Week 11 (7-4) Bulldogs 56 - (6-5) Port Arthur Memorial 27 The Bulldogs controlled this game from the 2nd quarter on and never looked back. Quentin Castille had another stellar game with over 250 yards rushing. AJ Kempf played well on offense and defense, catching a TD pass and intercepting a pass as well as sacking the Titan QB several times. There was a good crowd supporting the Dogs and that will need to continue next week against Brazoswood.
  17. talk about putting your foot squarely in the middle of your pie hole. Craig James called Joe Paterno an "old fart" and said that he had too many beans in his soup last night and also stated that Joe had too much Geritol. It was hilarious, but in this day of politcal correctiveness, it wouldn't surprise me if he is reprimanded and apologized to Joe Pa and Penn State.
  18. I thought Major Culbert was fantastic today. Our D coaches lined him up at middle linebacker a whole lot during the game today and on the outside, he was a streak of lightning closing in on a tackle. He simply made a bunch of tackles today and was a star. I expect big things from this guy and honestly hope that he will take playing time away from Shanle or Green in the next couple of weeks. I was so pist about Mizzou's td pass on fourth and 16 than I could just vomit. We were playing cover 2 zone and Shanle was (like last week) a day late and a dollar short. Either one of the Bullock boys would have had a pick or at least would have laid that Mizzou WR out. As a safety, Shanle should either knock the ball away or make the wideout pay for catching the ball, he does neither. Other than that play and a couple of other plays, I was pleased with our schemes on defense and the effort was outstanding
  19. Do we really want an offensive lineman who is "flying under the radar" and also runs a 5.86 fourty yard dash??? I think there are bigger, better and faster OL than this guy.
  20. He is also the best blocker out of the four.
  21. Rivals and Scout don't even list a Micheal Grant at DT (there is a DE Patrick Grant from south Florida that is visiting this weekend, must have been a typo by the newspaper) LB Josh Bynes doesn't list Nebraska in his choice of schools. Some big names after Bynes, such as Auburn, LSU, Tennesse, Notre Dame, Iowa and Arizona State. He sounds like a great prospect, but we'd have to come along ways to get him. kudos to the staff if Bynes is visiting UNL.
  22. My wife and I will be in Phoenix over the Iowa State game and would love to hook up with some of the many Husker fans in the Valley of the Sun. Can you help me out?
  23. Do any of you realize that Montanna State plays Chadron State (Nebr) next week? Here's hoping that Danny Woodhead runs all over the Bobcats.
