  1. Ran across this article and thought y'all might enjoy it, sounds like a good guy: Count me as a big fan of Lions' Ndamukong Suh
  2. Okay, but you made it sound like the UT fans were just as much to blame for "pushing past the Corp" and then they "got into it". That is not what happened. What happened was a bunch, not a few, a lot of Corps guys lost their heads and handed out multiple several-on-one beatings, not a couple of one-on-one fist fights where both parties were willing participants. Just so we're all clear, here. I'm not excusing the Corps actions because you can't, but I'm also not quoting a letter to a paper 9 years ago that was written 6 years after an incident; I was actually there watching it. The Corps actions were inexcusable, but I can also tell you some firsthand stories of UT students from that evening who weren't exactly angelic. It was embarrassing in any case and certainly an incident I wish hadn't happened. The Corps member from the 1981 photo, btw, was kicked out of the Corps and suspended for a semester.
  3. Are you f'ing kidding me, bro? "Some Corps members and fans got into it"??? Your own school newspaper saw it a little differently: From The Battalion Sorry, would you like written documentation of each individual interaction between Corps members and fans? It was embarrassing and, as I stated, "not a proud incident".
  4. I was actually at the UT v A&M game in '95 if you'd like more detail on what happened. Kyle Field is referred to a memorial field and traditionally people stay off the field after the game. It's never really been anything that was enforced, members of the Corps of Cadets did "guard" the field after the game but never did anything, it was a purely ceremonial thing. People just stayed off the field after the game as that was what you did. In 1995 we hadn't lost a game on Kyle Field in the last 4 seasons. The Corps was lined up around the edge of Kyle like they always were as the game ended, and a couple random UT students burst past them onto the field. More people started coming out of the stands and pushing past the Corps members to get onto the field and some of the Corps members and fans got into it. Not a proud incident but something that happened in the heat of the moment, a surreal experience to say the least.
  5. I'm betting some of us haven't commented because there's really not much to say. I'm embarrassed by it and wish he'd been flagged, unfortunately it wasn't seen. Not really anything else to add. To me a suspension seems probably a bit harsh, it sounds like it was handled internally. Knowing how Sherman is I sure wouldn't want to be that guy.
  6. Quite frequently judging from a photo that looks to have been taken in the early 80s...
  7. Except for two weeks before? In any case, as several have mentioned there were several thousand students sitting on the sidelines, they jumped up and they were pretty much already on the field. The lower deck of stands was still full, we didn't have people pouring out of the stands onto the field.
  8. Uh, there's definitely a cord running in the video. When Bradon Jones' camera is looking toward the crowd celebrating, you can see it running from the mass of people (to a camera in amongst everyone, probably an ABC camera that followed the Nebraska team to the middle of the field and stayed there in the celebration, you can see big cameras being held overhead in the crowd if you look closely in the slowmo video, the cord probably runs to one of those) and running toward the camera off to Jones' right. Reed #25 steps over, (actually on it to make sure it doesnt jerk up again and trip him) this cord. When the camera turns toward Pelini you can see another cord (or the same one) running from the camera's left and back behind Pelini along the Nebraska sideline. There is also another cameraman with a big video camera on his shoulder a few feet away (to the left of Pelini on the screen when the camera turns toward him) but I think this is another cordless video camera and not related to the cords along the ground. Sorry, you're right. There's a shadow from the cord which is what I was seeing but the actual cord is only a bit above that. And you are correct that the TexAgs camera is just a handheld, they were just shooting web video. Only reason to have a corded camera out there is for a live television feed.
  9. Actually I believe the "cord" is the shadow from the ABC/ESPN camera wires running above the field.
  10. Wouldn't they go by overall record before bcs ranking? As it's a conference championship the games played outside the conference don't factor in directly. So no, a team's overall record doesn't have any effect (other than the obvious effect it would have on poll and BCS ranking).
  11. Thanks. Does the fact that A&M has one more (non-conference) loss than either OU or Okie State not factor in? If you're explanation is right, then I can't possibly see A&M playing into the CCG. If OU manages to tip Okie State, they are going to get a huge boost. A&M's victory over Texas would have to be insanely impressive to even come close. Why did you have to lose to Arkansas, Aggies!?!?! The way I understand it the records compared in tiebreaker #1 are referring to record within the Big 12, if OSU were to lose all three teams would sit at 5-3. The Arkansas loss doesn't hurt us there but it does when it comes to BCS standings. Had we won that game we'd have a real shot if OU wins, as things stand I think it's a pretty slim chance. The only way I can see it happening is for OU v OSU to be a sloppy unimpressive win for OU, for A&M to absolutely light up Texas, and for a few teams between OU and A&M in the BCS to drop games this week. I wonder the same thing about the Arkie game, that's one that was definitely within our grasp and we couldn't put away. This team is really only two or three plays away from being 11-1. I'd still love to blow out Texas
  12. The tiebreaker gets long and complicated looking at division record and head to head games (which just confuses things even more as if OU wins each team will have beaten another). What it will come down to is BCS ranking. If OU beats OSU and A&M beats Texas and is within one BCS spot of OU then A&M will win the tiebreaker (based on BCS ranking and then head to head). It would seem unlikely, however, for the Ags to jump up enough in the BCS to make that happen unless we see some surprising results from teams ranked above them this weekend.
  13. I thought the '06 call was a bit weak, more of a "running into the kicker" sort of hit, but he did hit him late. It wasn't a malicious hit, but it was a boneheaded mistake by the player, not the official. Not arguing the call. And that (it being the same ref) is quite fascinating.
  14. I thought the '06 call was a bit weak, more of a "running into the kicker" sort of hit, but he did hit him late.
  15. There's one (or a few) in every crowd. Glad you guys enjoyed the trip otherwise though.
  16. You should quote and directly respond to the posts that dismiss A&M as average rather than generalizing for the whole of this board. I admit I haven't noticed those posts accusing A&M of mediocrity, but who knows. To your point about moving the ball - A&M had four yards more than Nebraska. Were it not for two very questionable penalties on your final two drives, you would not have scored six points in the fourth to win. A&M had three first downs by penalty. Nebraska had zero. And we had our QB out for half the game. I think you may need to look at the film of that game again before talking about who had trouble moving the ball. Nobody has said we would have won the game by such a lopsided margin. We're all well aware of the limitations of our offense when our QB is hurt. All anyone here is saying is that we did enough to win, but A&M had quite a bit of help. I don't think that's such a crazy observation in the wake of that game. I actually did quote the original in my first reply, the OP just disagreed again...to each their own. (Though we were not a good team in '02, no argument there.) Totally agree that A&M's offense didn't do enough and NU's D played well.
  17. A whole lot of posters on here have referred to A&M as average or bad, hence my post. Just an observation. (and I did edit out the bunnies for readability but that's a pretty fantastic gif to have on a message board) you can not use the bunnies enough. for sure. although my response was disproportionate, my point was that it is what you think of your team that matters. perception is a funny thing, especially with sports teams. it will take a long time before a lot of people will respect NU because the perception from the last decade is so strong they will think any success is fleeting. i have a ton of respect for aTm, and after this year, them and osu will be my favorite big 12 teams. i just think it is a little unreasonable to expect a fanbase to give another team due respect, and it is a little unreasonable to even care, really. and i agree that NU can not blame the refs for the loss. the roughing call was inexcusable, but is always unfair to deny a team their victory because of refs. aTm deserved to win, as they did enough and NU did not. the only problem is that aTm was supposed to be a big 12 south darkhorse, they were supposed to have really arrived this year, and they underperformed a bit and are only now turning it on. that does not help with perception. expectations can really hurt the perception of a team \. but you should be happy, aTm has moved in the ranks and looks to get a decent bowl and a good overall season if they win out. congrats. for realz. Fair points, and appreciated. And thanks 74hunter, I'd love to see a CCG rematch but the chances of that happening are REALLY slim as I don't think we'll be able to catch OU in the BCS rankings if they knock off OSU. Mike (or M I K E as the case may be), I've done my best to not instigate anything, tell anyone how they should feel or that they're wrong while offering my opinion, I know that I'd be beyond frustrated if the situation were flipped (and after the officiating of our several previous games we can relate to some extent). I was actually around for conversations before the game and enjoy the discussion around here as most folks seem to have a pretty good handle on what they're talking about. Sorry if I stick around And a to all of you good sirs.
  18. If you would have read this forum the previous four months you would have seen dozens and dozens and dozens of people talking about how concerned we were about playing A&M. You guys got tons of respect on this forum all season. The fact that you barely beat us by one field goal after that RIDICULOUS discrepancy in penalties is going to tone down the respect for your team quite a bit. Is A&M bad? Of course not. Is Nebraska better? Probably, but we didn't always show it on the field Saturday. Did the refs dramatically affect the outcome of this game? Absolutely, and any game commentary that doesn't bring this up is doing a disservice to both teams. I wish the penalties hadn't been as lopsided as they were because it taints what was an amazing atmosphere and otherwise a nice defensive smashmouth kind of game. I've actually been reading posts here for a while and did see a lot of credit given to the Ags before the game, but it seems that since we've been largely dismissed as average. Penalties did affect the game (although I don't think there were many truly bad calls aside from the roughing the passer call), but on lots of penalty free down Nebraska wasn't able to move the ball. From reading a lot of posts on here this would've been a 35-3 Nebraska win had the game been called "correctly". A whole lot of posters on here have referred to A&M as average or bad, hence my post. Just an observation. (and I did edit out the bunnies for readability but that's a pretty fantastic gif to have on a message board)
  19. Our average team did a heck of a job blowing up your OL in the second half then. And Baylor's. And OU's. Holding OSU to less points than NU. Beating Kansas by more points than NU. Etc. I don't necessarily think A&M is the better team but I find it interesting that, despite the penalties in this particular game, A&M looks to be a pretty good team this season yet some refuse to give any credit.
  20. Interesting to look at the coach in charge and the way a team develops. With Pelini the Huskers have obviously become a much stronger defensive team, with Sherman at the helm A&M developed a pretty potent offense well before having much of a defense to speak of.
  21. You make a good point. A&M's D-line made red-headed step children of our O-line all night, and our passing game was too inept last night to challenge your questionable secondary. A&M played a great game defensively, and the point of this thread is to question the ability of our offense to make changes and put points on the board vs. average or better defenses. But your point is definitely valid. This thread is not just focusing on last night, but a culmination of this offensive staff's coaching, scheming and game planning on a weekly basis. A&M is a hot team right now, and I don't really want to play them again to be honest. Go ahead and plant Texas's d*cks in the dirt this week, and we'll be seeing ya'll around the bend. Appreciated, and I'm definitely hoping we destroy Texas on T-day (it's been nice to see the number of UT football related posts on my Facebook feed slow to a trickle). Didn't mean to derail the thread. As per the NU offense, I hadn't watched a lot of your games this season but I really expected more from the number of points you'd put up in previous games. There didn't seem to be much variety in playcalling and when it was obvious that the gameplan wasn't moving the ball well I didn't see much adjustment (other than trying to throw the ball late in the game). Having Martinez slowed certainly can't help your playcalling with the reliance you've had on running the ball but in general that would all seem to fall on your OC.
  22. que? To clarify, there weren't a lot of penalties that directly negated big gains.
  23. Serious question: is it possible that A&M's D is better than it's being given credit for? I keep seeing references to things like "average but played lights out" and there were several pregame comments about A&M's defense being exposed, being overrated, etc. In the game, penalties aside (and there weren't a lot when NU was on offense other than the personal fouls) I'd say the Aggie defense looked pretty solid. Martinez wasn't 100% by any stretch and that definitely didn't help your ground game, but A&M got lots of pressure in the backfield and did rather well all night. Not meaning to flame or troll, sorry if it's taken that way.
  24. The top kicker in the nation is committed to us and thank God he punts too
  25. Because that's been exactly what we've all said. Yes, it was a questionably officiated game and we won. I wish the last roughing the passer flag hadn't been thrown but it was and neither I nor any other Ag can do anything about it. If the roles were reversed you'd be saying "we got a bit lucky but we'll take it" and move on. And that's about all we can say. I've always had great interactions with NU fans and I wish we could trade out another team and keep y'all but we can't (and doesn't sound like any of you are too keen on staying). Best of the luck the rest of the way and next season.
