  1. I agree with you that having a freshmen QB will limit your play calling. But its always nice to have a few plays in your back pocket. Also I think Rex burkhead can take any play you throw at him. Sweep, throw, catch hell probably even kick a field goal. But I my self am no expert at football. I was just pointing out what I have seen this season in terms of play calling. I don't think it takes a play calling guru to see that NU offensive plays got snuft out last Sat. OU made in game adjustments. Ofcourse new plays take pratice. I'm sure we'll see a lot new stuff next season.(I HOPE) And that's why having the I as an optional formation may be a good idea. And yes the zone read did become predictible and easy to defend.
  2. The I formation may not be the single answer to the offense's woes, but I have to agree it has been successful in the past. With the right combination of backs and recievers it could be an additional formation to the run game and right now variety of any kind wouldn't hurt. Passing plays can be called from the I, or even a split-back formation with the quarterback lining up under center as opposed to a shotgun formation. Variety is the key and we have the athletes to make this work (2 running back backfield with quarterback under center).
  3. Opinion based on facts.?.?. GENIUS!
  4. At this point since our "destiny" is literally out of our hands, as fans all we can do now is hope the Big Red Machine absolutely positively DESTROYS whoever we end up playing. EARN back some of that respect and if they don't give it to us, take it.
  5. Still shaking off yesterdays game. But being a Nebraska fan even today, is still better than being a (insert any other tem here) fan. GBR!

  6. Yea it's a standard cliche but I agree they have to get after it today. If that happens and the defense plays at the level their capable of, then we have a chance. I think the key is not to let O.U. get too far out in front early because they have a good defense also. Then they could just stuff/stack the box and play really aggreive against the run and that could make for a very long day for us.
  7. That's a great one and hard to beat. Maybe best is all of this "Big Red Love" goin' on right now. On target, fire for effect.
  8. That's not so scary. I didn't take the time to look it up (ass-unimg) but what are the stats before and after? I'm asking. My opinion exceptional players have made exceptional plays on poorly called plays.... excuse the "exceptionaly poor" grammer. The athletes are in Lincoln, and can compete with the best. A few dropped passes, blah-blah-blah. History is our best teacher, and in recent Husker football history there is only one common denominator, Watson.
  9. Hope everyone is 100% and everyone plays all game.. wait that's not possible. No excuses, no what if's, BIG RED, BIG PLAYS, BIG DAY, BIG RED WINS!
  10. IF THE ENEMY IS IN RANGE... SO ARE YOU!!!!!

  11. You're presuming that the rumors actually affect the team, or something about this game. Everyone citing this or that rumor is just guessing, and the team knows it. They're 99% focused on Oklahoma, and frankly they don't care about the rumors (because there are always rumors about something) and they don't care what we posit here on the internet. They care about what's going on in the locker room, and they have the full story. Mostly they just roll their eyes at this stuff, chuckle, and wonder who dreams some of it up. But not all rumors are as big as your star-to-be-or-already-is Quarterback leaving the team. And if a "rumor" is getting this much response on an internet thread, you know it's a topic of conversation behind closed doors at "N". So I can understand not replying to silly rumors or internet threads or "tweets", but this isn't you every day rumor.
  12. You might as well have ended it there. That's the whole problem with the e-mail, the rumors, and this thread. There are no facts. There are gossipy 'insiders' and a lot of allegations flying around about a person's character substantiated by the barest threads and snippets of behavior, never sourced and biased beyond belief. What I see is a kid who probably is arrogant as hell, but who fights to stay in games and plays through a lot of pain. He's also frustrated, experiencing some of the first setbacks of his young life. If he quits, he quits. And he'll be a quitter. If he stays and learns from these experiences, who maybe he'll be looked on differently in the coming years. On a similar note if there is/was any truth to any of this, why hasn't Bo, Martinez or his Dad come out with denials that he's not leaving and he's a Husker thru-and-thru? Wouldn't you want to squash all of this and move on to more real issues or concerns especially with the CCG and your bowl game approaching? I'm not sure about all of the who-can-speak-when rules, but I'm curious as to why no denial by anyone.?.?
  13. Bonus points and some award for "Farmageddon"! I say Iowa is a given for the new "border war rival". Then the others listed here, Ohio St, Penn St, Michigan, basically whoever else is fighting for top-dog. Insert those mentioned in the place of Tex-ass, Okie-homa, Okie-State. All are good choices. I find it hard not to want to beat the absolute holy $&!@ out of Ohio State every year though. I'm just tired of constantly hearing about the Buckeyes despite how good they are. They have to be beat.
  14. Touchdowns = points. Score more points than your opponent = victories. Victories = Success!!!
  15. This is what I mean when I said earlier, sarcastically, that every competent OC clearly needs to put up the same stats against top defenses as with bad ones, whether he is running his 1st string QB or his 3rd string. Not sure how good OU's D is this year, but I really hope Green can build on the confidence he took from last week's game. The defense will have to be leaned on to win this game, which is why I'm glad it isn't OSU, because we had to count on the offense to simply outscore those guys. Zoogies, I totally get where you're coming from, but let's be honest with ourselves. If Green can go out there and get us 21-28 points, and we lose by a field goal, that's one thing. Watson's issue is he goes from brilliant to completely inept in these situations. We're talking zero touchdowns. Losing games that would have been won if we had scored a single touchdown. The beef with Watson isn't that he never calls a good game. It's that when he struggles, we lay an egg. There's a lot of good opinions being posted on this website and that's what it's for and why it's great. However opinions are just that (including mine) but facts are facts and they do not lie. So in my opinion Nebraska's offense has been anemic at best with Watson at the helm. Great numbers against weak teams (fact) and transparent defenses, and argueably competitive at best against good teams with good defenses (fact by statistics). Has there been great plays and numbers put up against good teams? Yes. But we are NEBRASKA and that should be the norm, not the exception. Nebraska fields as good of athletes as any major program in the country. Martinez, Burkhead, Helu, Green, O-line and recievers. The defense "BLACKSHIRTS" is dominating and exceptional. The NEBRASKA standard. So as all of the threads on this subject grows, you have to start asking yourself what is the problem? At some point Watson's performance is extremely questionable. If the offense had performed even slightly better in pivotal games, we would be defending Big-12 champs for several years now, and quite possibly National Champions during Watsons tenure as O.C. So while the debate continues about Watson's job and if he should remain, unquestionably NEBRASKA would have a much better record and titles with the same players if the offense had been better managed. So just like any player is accountable for his performance on any play, Watson is just as accountable for his performance. And just like any player who isn't performing as he should, Watson should be benched or cut. If I do not live up to my obligations and perform at my job, I will be held accountable and have to face the consequences. I doubt any of us could go to work and not perform or produce and remain employed. So why should Watson's lack of production and performance be any different? Answer: it shouldn't be and it's not, and that's a FACT. Regardless of everyone's opinion, we must all agree... WIN OR LOOSE I'M A CORNHUSKER THRU-AND THRU, GO BIG RED, BEAT O.U.!!!
  16. I'm drinkin' that Kool-Aid. I want to crush them beat them with their best. No excuses, flat out spank' dat' A$$!! CAN.. YOU.. DIG.. IT!!!!!
  17. And so the speculation (as mentioned) begins.... If he's still in a boot and crutch he's probably not going to play. But if by any chance he's healthy and can play that's a coaching decision. No one but the training staff and coaches (as well as Niles) knows for sure the extent of the injury. Maybe a game time decision. If he's at all still injured, I say sit him until the bowl game.
  18. All awesome moments and performances, but extra points for even being able to remember and watching Nebraska and recall a single play at age 8!
  19. This one is hard to call since there has been so many great plays on both sides of the ball for both teams. But as a Nebraska fan, it's hard to choose between the Johnny Rodgers punt return and Crouch's reception in 01'. I'm partial to Crouch's reception because that game had major implications to the national picture (well I guess many of their meetimgs did). Plus how many times can any team call that play in any game and actually be successful.?! Probably because most teams didn't or don't have a quarterback with the athleticism of Crouch, at least at that time (insert T. Mart comment here) . Hopefully a Nebraska player and play call will result in another great memory, and more important a Nebraska victory!
  20. I know Niles Paul had/has a broken foot, but has anyone heard or read anything about when he may return? I couldn't find anything on how serious the injury is/was (I mean I know it was broken) but in today's football these kids make remarkable recovery in quick order. So just asking if anyone has any info. I think it would be great to have him available if he's healthy enough and available. He'd be a great option and weapon for any quarteback that ends up starting or playing in the bowl game.
  21. Great observation. A member named Stuntz 2 Crouch was ranting about this same subject on some other thread before he lost his mind, but It's hard to catch the west coast games in my time zone. And the whole "Ohio" thing...WTF does that mean? But obviously a double standard if you compare the two of them. Maybe partly because Nebraska is such a more succesful program and is more in the national spotlight than Arizona.?.?
  22. Well the line in the sand has been drawn. Now it's time to step up and give the team nothing but support and positive encouragement. Time to show the rest of the Big-12 why Nebraska fans are truely the greatest and take the final Big-12 (with Nebraska) championship home to Lincoln where it belongs. Show no mercy.
  23. Lot's of great nominations and good reason for all of those players. Would as many have been your nominee without the superb play of the "O" line? Just sayin'.
