  1. I am a "facts are facts" guy, too. Riley and his staff (especially Banker) flat out sucked last year, that's a fact. I hope he does better and turns things around, but he will have to make vast improvements from his historical performance in order to make NU a champion program again. You can be mad at Riley all you want, your right. Not going to tell you how to feel or think. But given what Riley inherited was amazing that Nebraska was competitive in all games. I guarantee you that had Bo remained that the record, given no Ameer, no Kenny, no Randy, no DPE, is probably near identical to Rileys, maybe one game better at best, but know full well Nebraska would have been dismantled a time or two. We know that because it happened with those 4 players while Bo was head coach And I guarantee he would have won 9 games, because that's the established trend. Hell, if Bo was still here, there's no guarantee that Randy leaves early, or DPE gets hurt. See how useless this argument is? Keep dreaming buddy. When I already establishd that in 2014 Bo and Nebraska don't win 7 games against an inferior schedule to that of 2015, with Ameer, Kenny, Randy and DPE. Bo's house of cars was about to fall at Nebraska; recruting misses, roster mismangement, player development. But I digress Your opinion does not equal fact, because the variables will change simply by virtue of who was the HC. Kenny, Ameer, Randy and DPE not being on the team in 2015 and being difference makers that allowed Nebraska to win games in 2014 ( McNeese St, Miami, Iowa) that they otherwise don't without them, isn't opinion. Straight fact Maybe Bo's staff would have been able to do a better job of coaching the holdover players and they would have been able to replace the "difference makers" that were lost. All your arguments are pure conjecture at this point. Conjecture simply because you don't like it. lmao No, because that's how arguments & words work. WERDS R HARD!!!

But I digress Maybe Ron Brown does a better job of utilizing the talent at RB to replace the production that Ameer had in 2014. Maybe Beck does a better job of calling plays that are the strength of Armstrong. Maybe the defense doesn't completely fall apart like it did numerous times in 2015. Maybe Bo manages the clock better against BYU and it doesn't come down to a Hail Mary. Maybe Beck doesn't call a pass play against Illinois with 1 minute left in the game. If you are all about facts, you clearly are putting in a lot of hypotheticals in your arguments.

We know that because it happened with those 4 players while Bo was head coach You and I disagree on how things would have been last year under Bo, but again I am not trying to bring Bo back. The team took a step back last year under Riley, and there were games lost that shouldn't have happened. Riley's task is not to bring NU back to the level they were under Bo, but it's to bring NU back to championship levels. His recruiting looks to be making progress to achieving that task, but I have sincere doubts in Riley's overall coaching ability to get NU to the consistent 10-2 or 11-1 regular season level.
  5. Yes, the Tweet says KEEP, but other media guys have thought that it was bring back guys from the 2003 staff, as well. The wording isn't exactly clear.

  7. Gill was already a HC at Buffalo, so he wasn't going to be hired as an offensive assistant. I see it as Watson, Brown, and Cotton or Gilmore.
  8. Every first year coach installing a new program gets a pass or mulligan especially one that is installing an offense that is mostly 180 degree different than what the players that will be running it were recruited for. I tend to look at results of 2015 in this way; How would Bo have done if he had been HC in 2015? Never can say for sure but I do know one thing. In 2015 he would have been without the services of 4 difference-makers, playmakers, some call them game-changers. Kenny Bell, Ameer, Randy Gregory, and DPE all gone in 2015. How would Bo have done without those four in 2015? Well, take away those four players from Bo's 2014 team and Nebraska is a 6-6 team at best. I can point to three games in 2014 that Nebraska doesn't win without those 4 players; 1) Miami; Ameer and K. B. account for 300 yards total offense and 4 total td's. Randy Gregory is in backfield harrassing, if not pressuring and sacking Kayaa. 2) Mcneese St. Ameer Abdullah. McNeese St wins this game if not for Ameer. They had a great defense that lmited Ameer all day until final play. Ameer only had 54 yards rushing. and 3) Iowa Over 250 all purpose yards from Ameer, K.B. and DPE and 4 td's. Two words; Difference makers. Nebraska doesn't win either of those games in 2014 without those players. And Nebraska is 6-6. Spin it forward to 2015 and Nebraska gets a better Miami team in Miami, a better Iowa team and a BYU team in OOC that was better than every OOC team on 2014 schedule, as well as likely better than 3/4 of every Big 10 team in 2015. Bo often got his butt handed to him at NEbraska with those 4 players. I have a pretty solid premonition what happens without those 4 players had he remained. Rilet did all this installing a new culture, beating back the poisonous culture left behind and was a handful of plays from 10-2 Again, I am not making excuses for Bo. I have never pointed out that Bo should have been retained, so I don't know why you bring up the 2014 games. I understand the talent at NU wasn't great or deep, but keep making excuses for Riley. You are new to this board, but it happened all year last year. I will love it if Riley is able to make Nebraska great again, but I just don't see it with him. He is what he is.
  9. but, it sounds like Osborne wanted to Grobe to keep or hire 3 assistants that TO wanted to be on the staff. So, Grobe declined the job offer. Lee Barfknecht ‏@leebeeowh 10m10 minutes ago Lee Barfknecht Retweeted Dennis Dodd #huskers Lee Barfknecht added, Dennis Dodd @dennisdoddcbsGrobe: Confirms he didn’t take Nebraska job years ago because Neb wanted to keep 3 assts. Grobe wanted freedom to shape staff. 2 retweets0 likes Reply Retweet 2 Like More I know it's purely hypothetical on how Grobe would have done as a coach. He may not have had the success Bo did early on, but he might have been more stable and NU would have seen better seasons as NU moved into the Big Ten. Also, if Osborne is saying Grobe has to hire/keep 3 assistant coaches, then Osborne is over-reaching his authority as Athletic Director. His job is to hire a head coach, and let the head coach hire his staff of assistants.
  10. I don't get why there is all the hand-ringing over Bo's record against "bad" teams. Part of being a good coach is beating the teams you are supposed to beat. What makes a coach "great" is beating nearly every team he should, along with winning the games against the tough opponentns. I know that it's frustrating when NU was losing to the top teams in the conference, and that's why Bo was fired. I was in favor of Bo getting fired, because of his record against the top programs in the conference. However, Mike Riley doesn't get a pass from me because NU was able to pull off a big win against Michigan State and a decent win against UCLA. NU lost to 2 horrible teams (Illinois and Purdue) and I also thought the losses to BYU and Northwestern should be considered "bad losses". Riley's teams have a history of being wildly inconsistent, and that's what concerns me about him and his coaching staff.
  11. Yeah, I don't see why bringing in a transfer who will be eligible in 2017 is such a problem. He is a good option as an experienced QB since the other guys will all have little to no experience.
  12. Agree. He started that game off strong and then when I think the injury started to really nag at him was when we stopped moving the ball and ultimately stopped scoring. He had some nice passes for TD's at the beginning, and then something weird happened that game with the. The Minnesota game was hard to watch. It was painfully obvious that he should not have been in that game. May have been the reason why it didn't heal in time for his physical with the Eagles The Minnesota game was hard to watch because Beck wasn't feeding Ameer all game. Ameer was busting off runs all day, then Beck would try to shoe-horn a Martinez run or pass and the drive would stall out. That game was so frustrating to be in the stands for.
  13. That 2013 team was.... not good. How they got to 9 wins is pretty amazing, moreso than any other Pelini team imo The W-L of our 9 opponents we beat was 47-64, the W-L of our 3 opponents we lost to was 39-14. The team really got hurt with the injury to Martinez. Beck's offense was so geared toward using Martinez, that when he went down, the offense really struggled.
  14. I think it's weird to say that someone "deserves" a record or a statistic. Either they get the stat or they don't. Nothing against your post, just my thoughts.
  15. This is the biggest concern I have. Riley struggled with game management at Oregon State, and he struggled last year at NU. The guy has been a head coach for ~20 years. I don't think he is all of a sudden going to improve in that area. He is basically who he is.
  16. Not true for Spurrier and Patterson. Spurrier went +1 wins his first year (7-5 vs 6-5). Patterson went -4 wins his first year (6-6 vs 10-2) Holtz 2000-2004: 6.6 wins/year Spurrier 2005-2009: 7 wins/year Franchione 1998-2000: 8.3 wins/year Patterson 2001-2004: 8 wins/year I don't think you can compare Franchione and Patterson to Pelini and Riley. Franchione left TCU to get a "promotion" at Alabama. He took TCU to it's peak at the time. It would have been difficult for Patterson to improve on the record of Franchione in his first few years. Pelini was fired, as he wasn't winning "big enough" and showing the behavior that Eichorst wanted in a head coach. Riley has shown better demeanor on the sideline, but his first year was a complete disaster in terms of results on the field.
  17. Did you use the 64-color box of Crayolas to design that?
  18. Callahan might have been nice, especially early on. I probably would describe him as arrogant and condescending. Question: What kind of adjustments could you have made? Callahan: Oh, I think it's probably too technical for you, Yes, the personalities between Riley and Callahan are completely different, but the first year results were pretty much the exact same.
  19. It looks like people are willing to put up with crappy on-the-field results as long as the coach and the staff are nice and they are strong at recruiting. I just hope it's not Bill Callahan 2.0.
  20. Not at all on my part. I don't pay much attention to recruiting because a) there is no guarantee that they sign with Nebraska and b) many that do sign don't pan out for one reason or another. To me, it's hard to get excited about a group of players who won't be making big contributions to the team until the 2018 or 2019 season at the earliest. Riley and staff has to do things to improve the team in '16 and '17 first.
  21. I'm supportive of the coaches and the program, but I selected "indifferent". The on-field results are what matters the most for me and the 2015 season was ridiculously bad. Riley is a nice person and a good offensive mind, but his in-game management stinks. It will be interesting if Langsdorf is truly interested in committing to running the ball this year. I understand that the WR's are a strength of the offense, but Armstrong shouldn't be throwing the ball more than 30 times a game. I think Banker sucks, and is not a good defensive coach. This is a guy who is Riley's lackey and Oregon State fans wanted fired years ago. The future is looking decent with the recruiting of skill players in 2016, and the current commits for 2017. But, I truly question if Riley's coaching ability can make the team a 10-12 game winner each season. IMO, Riley was hired because he was the complete opposite of Pelini. That's all that Eichorst was looking for.
