  1. I understand where Stai is coming from, and there is something to building continuity and rhythm as a unit. However, his teams were also able to build huge leads so the backups and 3rd strings were still able to get plenty of reps. Also, Tenopir would rotate guys in on occasion to get the top unit some rest. There is no magic formula for subbing o-linemen and getting guys reps. I wish Cav would do a better job of getting some of the backups some time and not just go with the same five guys for the entire game. IMO, those 5 guys aren't going to be rested in the 4th quarter and they are going to lose effectiveness.
  2. I don't think potential recruits really care too much about the school's fight song. If you would listen to a lot of schools' fight songs, they are pretty old-fashioned and "out of date".
  3. The worst thing about Tecmo/Super Tecmo Bowl was playing with "gear lookers", ie the people who would look at your controller to see what play you are calling to call the appropriate defense.
  4. RBI Baseball and Bases Loaded were great Tecmo Bowl was great, but Tecmo Super Bowl was a gamechanger!!!
  5. Tecmo Super Bowl Excitebike was cool Golf Super Mario Bros. Double Dribble Ice Hockey (with the Fat player, Skinny player, and Medium player)
  6. User Actions Following Brian Christopherson‏@HuskerExtraBC #Huskers invited to NFL Combine: Maliek Collins, Vincent Valentine, Alex Lewis, Andy Janovich. Good to see the Jano love.
  7. Do DTs in the NFL normally do that? (I really don't know) Well they know if the play is a pass play within a second, and often before the ball is even snapped, at which point the DTs are all about getting pressure on the QB. The DEs and blitzing linebackers may log more sacks, but the DTs need penetration to chase the QB, or simply prevent him from planting his feet. You can always call your rushing play to go away from Ndamukong Suh, but you might have to double team him on a pass play, which creates an opening for the other linemen and any linebacker or DB you might want to blitz. Last year Nebraska gave mediocre QBs way too much time to plant their feet and watch the routes develop. I don't remember if Collins was constantly getting double-teamed or just wasn't as effective creating pressure. Collins was double and triple teamed at times last year, because teams had no fear of NU's D-ends. There were plenty of times where Collins got pressure on the QB last year, and I don't get the narrative that he didn't play very good. I think too many people expected him to be like Suh, when that's not fair. There has been only one Suh in the history of NU's program.
  8. Bet he goes to some team with a crappy offensive line to help out with blocking. Where ever he goes, he'll be a special teams demon. Jano's success in the NFL will be through special teams play. Most teams use FB's for a handful of plays each game at most, if at all.
  9. Do DTs in the NFL normally do that? (I really don't know) I thought Collins did well rushing the passer, and VV had moments too. In the NFL, DT's are mainly asked to occupy linemen, but can be very disruptive if they are able to collapse pockets and apply pressure from the middle. Collins could be a disruptive pass-rusher type DT, while VV would probably be the guy asked to just plug up the middle and occupy linemen.
  10. I am very very surprised at this. I thought he was told he would be top 1-2 rounder and that's why he declared for the draft. Collins was given a grade of 2nd-3rd round when he asked before he declared. I think they are given 1 of 3 grades. The 3 grades are: 1st rounder, 2nd-3rd rounder, later than 3rd round. VV got later than 3rd round.
  11. I think Collins will do well in the interviews and the workouts, and will creep up the board. D-line is a deep position in this draft, but the Broncos showed what a strong D-line can do to offenses, so I expect a lot of teams to focus on D-line in the draft. Given the depth of D-line this year, I'm going to predict right now that Valentine will regret leaving UNL early. I know, I know. His family needs $$ right now. But leaving school early without a degree, and little chance of making an NFL roster, just isn't the way to go. Sure wish he would have stuck around another year. Valentine got his degree in December. That's the main reason he left.
  12. Why??? That makes no sense. I grew up in a small town and still was able greatly enjoy living in s large city. Now back to small town and love it. I work with a guy from south side of Chicago and he loves living in small town Nebraska. Why would you limit yourself? Ok, so maybe some people are comfortable from going to a small town to a big city, and vice versa. Some people have the ability to be comfortable living in any situation. The OP asked for advice, and he has been given advice on both sides of the equation. Sorry if my response came off snarly. I just hate it when people limit themselves because..."I didn't grow up that way". There are fantastic places to live and opportunities in all sizes of communities. Your comments about Hastings reminds me of when we lived in Des Moines and were moving back here. I had people ask..."What are you going to do in a small town?" Well, since moving here, we have been way busier than any time we lived around Des Moines to the point that I can't imagine adding anything else to my "things to do". Anyway.....to each their own happiness. My post was not the best post. Your response was fair. People have different priorities and they change throughout their life. As long as they are happy, that's all that matters.

  15. Really, the OP should lean on the environment that he grew up and has the most experience living in. For example, I grew up in Omaha, so I could never live in a town in 10-20K people. I go to Hastings to see my wife's family and think "what do people do here?". Even if the small town is within a 30 minute drive of the bigger city, the OP is going to spend the majority of his time in that small town. Now, if the OP is used to living in a small town, he may be able to survive that type of living situation.
  16. When I lived in Omaha as a kid, my dad got a job at the Fort Calhoun nuclear power plant. Now, it's different because we were a family and we had lived in Omaha for a number of years, but he didn't uproot his family and move to Fort Calhoun just to cut down his commute time.
  17. If you choose to live in this small town, just because that's where you work, that seems like you are basically choosing to live at work. I understand wanting to keep a reasonable commute, but to me, a 30 minute commute is a reasonable commute. If you aren't stuck in traffic and it's an easy drive, I would do that. I think it would be lame to come home from work or be on the weekends and think "Man, I can't do anything because it's a 30 minute drive away". Being in the bigger city will give you more options in terms of groceries, restaurants, bars, shopping, recreational and leisure activities, etc.
  18. I've never been to Allen Fieldhouse, but if this is on a weekend next November/December, it could be worth making the trip to go see the Huskers vs. Jayhawks.
  19. It's tough to see Riley on the sidelines sometimes, especially when it's a cold day. He just stands there emotionless and almost aloof, with his hands in his coat pockets, and clapping encouragement every now and then. I am not trying to make a comparison to Bo's antics, because his tantrums and tirades got old too.
  20. I'm waiting for the Broncos fans and Coors people to get mad/poke fun of Peyton for talking about Budweiser and not Coors. I think I have seen Coors do tweets about that in the past when a Denver athlete mentions Budweiser products. From my understanding Manning owns some shares from two Anheuser-Busch wholesalers in Louisiana. Yea, I know. I am just saying that Denver-ites and Coloradans can get pretty defensive of their Coors products. That has lessened with the growth of the craft brewers throughout the state.

  22. I think it's funny when former players talk about "enjoying college". Benning said he was a Sandy's guy, while Foreman said he would go to Iguana's. I did find it interesting when Benning made it sound like he was drinking a lot early in his career at NU, and almost got kicked off the team for it. He had to go talk to Dr. Stark and the rest of the Unity Council.
