  1. Do you also turn the channel whenever a beer commercial comes on TV? Do you turn off the TV when the team celebrates with beer and champagne in the locker room? I understand that you may not like it when an athlete promotes alcohol use, but these are grown men who are going to celebrate and relax in their own way. Many adults like to celebrate and relax with alcohol. It's not the end of the world.
  2. Gosh, why can't Manning be more like a guy like Len Dawson, who was actually smoking a cigarette at halftime of Super Bowl I.
  3. Oh good Lord. He's 39 years old and after winning probably the most emotional game of his career, he simply said he was going to sit down and have a couple Bud Lights and think about if he wants to retire or come back. If you're pissed at that.....well......you have some amazingly high standards. If you are pissed that Peyton was being honest and said he's gonna have a few cold beers after a Super Bowl victory in probably his last game, then you are being too sensitive. Bring back prohibition!!!
  4. From high school position coach to power 5 position coach? Wow. Just wow. Art Briles and Gus Malzhan say Hi... Can also add Jeff Traylor, Chad Morris, Hugh Freeze and Jeremy Pruitt to name a few. It is becoming a trend for HCs in the college ranks to hire HS coaches. Didnt the head coach of that Las Vegas HS we got Gates from get the UNLV head coaching job?Yeah, the Bishop Gorman coach went to UNLV. I am not saying high school coaches can't go from HS to being good/great in college. It does happen, but a guy like Todd Dodge failed miserably at UNT. Regarding Hugh Freeze, him going to Ole Miss as an assistant coach was pretty much a "thank you" for delivering Michael Oher. He has proven to be a good coach, but that could be helped by the rampant cheating they are doing to bring in top talent.
  5. Great, it's the guy that sensationalizes Texas High School football and doesn't add any true value to the conversation!!!
  6. I wouldn't say DPE is a freak. Fournette is a freak, Henry is a freak, Clowney freak, Cam freak,Winston freak, LaQuon Treadwell, etc. DPE is very good, high 3*, low 4* rating is about right. Stars matter, most of the time. Did DPE get a med rs this year? DPE didn't get a medical redshirt this year. He'll be a junior in 2016.
  7. Live in the city of 100K. There will be more things to do in your free time. You would probably get bored living in that small town.
  8. There are so many crazy posts and allegations in this thread. It's really comical. As far as John Wooden, it's pretty well known that he had big time boosters paying kids from all over the country. There is a reason he got recruits from everywhere. Of course the LA weather and campus hotties help, too.
  9. Wow this thread got really interesting. Where is the emoji of the smiley face eating popcorn. I like how Teach needs to be a registered sex offender.
  10. I never thought Ek was fired. He was doing a great job with the LBs and got a promotion to go to Indiana as their co-DC.
  11. Give us a name(s) who would fit that description. Of coarse i have no Idea if they can coach.. But Winstrom, Peters, to name a few. Who could sell playing D-Line and being a blackShirts better then them? Please be joking. Why? I hope it is JP just so everyone can see how full of crap and clueless the guy really is. JP's answer to everything is "let me tell you how we did it in the 90s, man!!!" Wouldn't it be better if we were doing things like we did in the 90s? We had 3 NCs then!!!! You don't have to tell me how it was in the 90s, I was in undergrad at UNL for all 3 titles. But, every time JP talks, it's about how things were done back then. I know it was a great time, and he was a great player, but it gets a little old. It's ok for him to move forward and give actual recommendations on how NU can improve.
  12. Setting aside the part where a six-win season is more of a call for changes than 9/10 win seasons.... And setting aside that "bad" recruiter may not even be descriptive enough as this may have been the single worst recruiting year at a specific position group ever... And setting aside that there are rumblings that Riley's hand may have been forced on this issue... It's nice of you to conveniently forget that Shawn Watson, Ted Gilmore and Mike Ekeler were suddenly no longer employed by the University? Watson "found" a job in Louisville before he was ever let go or however it could be spun, Ekeler left for Indiana with Co-Defensive Coordinator title, and Ted Gilmore had his contract run out and not get extended because of hush hush character issues. Very much different things, and different statements, than straight up firing someone and letting that be that. Watson and Gilmore were basically fired, while Ekeler got a promotion to go to co-DC at Indiana. I wouldn't say that Ekeler was "fired".
  13. Huskers are wearing 90-91 season throwback uni's. That was my favorite NU basketball team of all time. They were picked to finish dead last in the Big 8, but had a great season. Rich King, Beau Reid, Tony Farmer, and a freshman by the name of Eric Piatkowski. They were such a fun team to watch. It's too bad they couldn't get past the first round of the NCAA tourney that year. They played a terrible game in that first round. If they had gotten through that, they might have made a decent run as a #3 seed.
  14. Give us a name(s) who would fit that description. Of coarse i have no Idea if they can coach.. But Winstrom, Peters, to name a few. Who could sell playing D-Line and being a blackShirts better then them? Who's Winstrom? I mean, if a hardcore Husker fan like myself doesn't recognize the name, I doubt it will ring true with recruits If you claim to be hardcore and dont know who any of the Winstoms who played for us is then you need to reevaluate. I am not saying they 17-18 year old kids have to know or be able to point them out on the spot. But if you know you are being recruited by a former player I can promise you, you or whom ever is being recruited by said name will google that guy and see who he is. Anyone who says they wont is lieing to them selves. I think he's messing with your use of "Winstrom". It's W-I-S-T-R-O-M.
  15. Give us a name(s) who would fit that description. Of coarse i have no Idea if they can coach.. But Winstrom, Peters, to name a few. Who could sell playing D-Line and being a blackShirts better then them? Please be joking. Why? What is Peter going to do as coach, just tell them how he did it in the 90s? Also, any 17 year old kid will have no idea who he is, so it's not like he would be a great recruiter just because of his name. Nothing against guys like Peter and Wistrom, but they aren't coaches. They are not in the coaching profession, they shouldn't be considered. I get what yall are saying and probably right. I was thinking more of a recruiting area. I know if former legends walked through my door to recruit me eye would be all ears and eyes. Its mainly a pipe dream i get it. If the Thompson guy can coach and recruit sign him up. But, 17 year old kids outside (or even inside) Nebraska don't even know that Jason Peter and Grant Wistrom are "Husker legends".
  16. John Parrella could be an interesting candidate. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Parrella Fits the former Husker bill, played for Riley at SD. Jason Peter is giving Parrella his endorsement.
  17. If that's the case we should be looking for a new special teams coach. Well, Riley is closer friends with Read, so that one could take a while.

  21. I like the idea of Chris Kiffin, but going from the D-line coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Ole Miss to just the D-line coach at NU seems like a demotion.
  22. Give us a name(s) who would fit that description.
  23. I want another Bray/Williams -type coach. If Thompson fits that bill I'm all in. ^ This!!! Have experienced coordinators who can also recruit, but have young, ace recruiters as position coaches.
  24. If Tavita does get the nod as the D-line coach, I would be all for it. He would be a young, energetic guy who can relate to the current players, and would probably be a stud recruiter.
  25. Who is that a picture of? "TE coach" grad assistant Tavita Thompson. I've read good things about him, but is he/could he coach the DL? It's not a huge jump to go from offense to defense. The guy was an o-linemen in college, so he knows the trenches and probably what challenged him from opposing d-linemen. Thompson got a lot of credit for his work with Cethan Carter last year, so he must be a good coach. I have heard that he is a good recruiter, as well.
