  1. Yeah, but the team got no pass rush at all, which enabled opponents to pass all over NU.
  2. Maybe Riley has the balls to fire assistants that under-achieve after all.
  3. I keep on seeing posts like "the recruiting class is good, especially considering the 6-7 season", which really don't make sense to me. The coaches' game mismanagement were a big reason why the season was so poor, so they don't deserve "extra credit" for recruiting during/after that type of season. The good recruiters get the kids to come to the school regardless of what is going on with the current season. Also, most of the contact and recruiting happens before the season even starts, and I don't think the kids are questioning "Coach, why is the team so crappy?" If anything, a bad season makes it easier to sell recruits with the chance of playing right away. Now, a consistent winning program should yield better recruiting classes, as the better seasons continue. This has happened at Baylor, TCU, and Michigan State. But, one bad season or one great season isn't going to make a huge difference in a recruiting class either way.
  4. You do realize that the roster isn't updated in real time, right? Banker or Hughes said that Carlos Davis was up to 296. I think he's put on the weight he's needed. Sweet! Well, we may be alright next season @ DT. I've been real impressed w K Maurice, the guy shoots the gap and makes alot of plays, has some real quicks. K Williams is decent, guess they're moving McM to DT, and I'm hoping Newell, Stoltenberg and Davis Bros will be who we think they are. Moving McMullen from DE to DT will depend a lot on the development of Freedom, Dzuris, Alex Davis, and other guys who can rush the passer. Freedom and Dzuris are good, not familiar with A Davis. I think Freedom has the potential to be special. Dzuris is Gangwish 2.0. That's decent, but not great. Alex Davis redshirted last year as a frosh. He is a freak athlete, but hasn't played football very long and is very raw. Yeah. There's that DE Neal guy, potential good player, eh? I forgot about Daishon. He could be good, but struggled with injuries last fall. Hopefully he's not one of those guys who always has chronic injuries. The only problem is that there could be a lot of dependency on young/inexperienced guys. Yeah, these guys could be talented, but there is a learning curve for most guys. I think the coaches whiffed on not landing a JUCO DE.

  7. Agree. Recruiting does no good if the coaches can't develop or the players don't want to put in the work to be developed.
  8. I will say that this class is a good start towards building a championship team. The coaches need to build more depth and address the o-line and d-line issues. POB will need to be a stud QB for the class to be truly successful.

  10. Banker likes big CB's, so Jackson may get a first look there. The boundary corner has less room to cover, so bigger guy can be more successful there. If Jackson can cover guys 1 on 1 on that side, it frees up more guys to help on the field side, where there is more space.
  11. Let's find out! Together! What? That a 50 year old HC, who was nothing more than a Tier 2 HC at OSU, and the NFL for that matter, will be nothing more than a Tier 2 coach at NU? Why would you want to find that out when it is known already? If caLLLLLlahan couldn't move up to Tier 1 at NU, and he was younger, what makes anyone think Riley, at 50, with his extensive time as a Tier 2, will? Oh yeah. I forgot. Hope. Mike Riley is 62, not 50.
  12. Bingo. Can't really say it any better than this. I cribbed some of that from a Jon Nyatawa tweet, but I added my thoughts about the SEC and A&M.
  13. A. Recruiting is about relationships (see Langs comments about his close relationship with POB's HS coach) and this staff has few to none in Texas. B. There's less of a story to tell nowadays to a Texas kid. Under the B12, and even the B8, at least once or twice a year a kid would be playing close to home, even if he went to NU. That's not the case anymore. Makes it much harder to recruit (and retain) those guys. Meh, we gotta get back into Tejas. I'm sure there are 2-3 TX guys at least that would be glad to come to NU. It's going to be harder and harder to do. NU hasn't played in Texas since 2010. Baylor, TCU, and Houston are becoming attractive alternatives within the state. Meanwhile, A&M is using the fact that they play in the SEC to their advantage, and the other SEC schools are using A&M as an in to come recruit Texas.
  14. Agree! Well, that will depend on Miles coming up with an offensive system that isn't dependent on one-player being the lead guy. I have seen a lot of criticism put on Shields for him being too much like Petteway this year. But, if he's being asked to run the offense by Miles, then the blame shouldn't be put on Shields. Shields won the game at Michigan State playing that way, but he's had a tougher time in the past 3 games. NU is getting torched on the defensive end due to their lack of size. The offense hasn't really been the problem this year.
  15. If there is anything that can be passed to help out the defenses, I would be all for it. I think the spread offenses are fun to watch, but man, with all the rules that they are able to take advantage of, the defense has no chance.
  16. Shields is a post player now? Seems like a wing to me. I thing he means "after the game" when he uses the term "post game".
  17. All you gotta do at NU is win 5 games to get a bowl invite.
  18. Saw this on another board. National rankings for UCF the past few years. The 2012-14 rankings would be a big reason they went winless in 2015. 2016--56 2015--63 2014--73 2013--73 2012--90
  19. He runs great routes, has great hands, and is like another coach on the field!!!
  20. Hovey is a good kid, but how much more potential can he have when he would have been a Sr. next year. It's not like he was a sophomore or junior. You mean football players stop improving and reach their ceilings once their Juniors? I had no idea! Derp....... It's not at all what I am saying, jackwagon. I just don't think using the term "potential" should be used for an upcoming 5th year senior.
  21. Don't think that's right. He was here more than one year 11 ND College of Science 12 Rochester 13 Highland 14-15 Nebraska 16 E Mich So how is he getting a 6th year? http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=209389185 His bio from this past fall comments that he sat out 2011 with a medical redshirt. It must not have counted as a year on his clock. But, he played 4 years from 2012-2015, unless they granted him another year of eligibility because he played so little for NU in 2015. Don't you only get a medical redshirt if you have already used your redshirt? I guess he could claim he was "injured" in 15 to try to get another year? The medical redshirt is often used if a guy plays 1 or 2 games, gets injured and requests to not have those games count as "burning" a redshirt. I am not sure how he is able to claim another redshirt season since then, but he must have been able to.
  22. Hovey is a good kid, but how much more potential can he have when he would have been a Sr. next year. It's not like he was a sophomore or junior. This is nothing against Lane, but he was really going to be nothing more than the 4th or 5th option at WR. At Montana, he will be able to get more snaps and targets.
  23. Adrienne Talan officially no longer a Husker, and will go to a JUCO. He was the frosh LB who the coaches were calling "high maintenance" in the coaches discussion that was leaked by that Oregon writer.
