  1. The eligibility waiver is for an additional year in 2018. He is a tratitional transfer, so he is INELIGIBLE to play in 2016.
  2. Nah, POB knew from the beginning there would be another QB in the class. Remember POB actually used to be the other guy... Terry Wilson was the first QB recruit in this class, and POB was the second QB to commit (Wilson later de-committed). O'Brien should know the deal. NU will also bring in a QB recruit for the 2017 class. Coaches don't stop recruiting QB's just because you think you have your future starter on campus.
  3. There is a chance that he won't have to sit out and could play next year. I know that the coaching staff was working on it with the NCAA, but don't know if that will be the case. The coaches are trying to get him another year of eligibility in 2018. There is nothing they can do to make him eligible for 2016. Grad students don't have to sit out a year aka Russell Wilson at Wisconsin and Everett Goldston at FSU. It has something to do with the date he graduated and some other confusing NCAA rules that they probably don't understand either.I know the grad transfer rule, this guy hasn't graduated.

  5. He is NOT a grad student. This is a traditional transfer. He will sit out 2016. Currently he will only have 1 year of eligibility left in 2017, but he's requesting another year to be granted so he can play in 2018, too.
  6. It has nothing to do with whether a 4.7 or 4.4 is a good score or not. It has to do with how useless the 40 is as a predictive metric in football. Here's a trick I use for estimating the reliability of 40-yard dash times into football production: replace "runs a x.xx 40-yard dash" with "scores a x.xx at hop scotch". Curtis Cotton was probably the greatest athlete ever to play football at NU. He had the highest performance index scoring that was ever measured. He barely saw the field, because he couldn't translate that crazy speed and athleticism into being a football player. Some can, some can't.
  7. It's the whole "star" debate thing. Many argue that "stars don't matter", since, you know, most of our recruits are 3*. Well, often times, the difference between the 4 and 3* guys is that the former is bigger and faster. I've had fans argue me all day that a 4.7 40 in an RB or WR or CB is "just fine". I just have to push back, I guess. Rex Burkhead says hello Did Rex ever out run anybody? Not so much.No but he certainly ran through them Thought we were talking speed, no? Yeah, no one would deny that Rex his shake and bake. Still not starting for Cinci, though. I don't see what he's doing at Cincy has any bearing at what he did at NU. I don't care about what they do in the NFL.

I just have to push back, I guess. Nobody is saying you can't have discussion or debate. But, when you get stuck on one specific attribute of a player such as height or weight, the argument doesn't always hold water. There have been plenty of great players in college and NFL that have been deemed "too small" for their position. When you get stuck on the "measurables" there are going to be great football players that don't always have the measurables.
  9. That's the main reason why one would want the bigger size, right? Seriously, the "new normal" linemen these days is ~300lb, ripped, athletic, and can run, like that Nkemdiche guy. That's the way it's going as far as I can tell--if you want to be a contender, that is. Leonard Williams, 6'5", 291, remember him? Which DE's have given Nebraska OT's more trouble?? Speed Rushers my friend That's what I would love to see us get back to.....guys that can just run and get after the QB Leonard Williams is a big speed rusher. Same with Bosa. I think that's the way it's going these days, they have to be big--and fast. I'm sure if we got a guy like that, nobody would be complaining.Corn, I get what you are saying. I think we all wouldn't be complaining about a guy who is 6'6 270 lbs and can fly all over the field. Those can be hard to come by, but it would be great if our coaches are able to recruit a guy like that. But, for you to say that Miller isn't a good recruit because he's too small at 6'3 and 240 lbs as a high school senior is simply misguided IMO. Maybe Miller isn't a highly regarded recruit because he is considered "short" for a DE. But, let the guy get on campus and have him play some snaps before we start saying this kid isn't a good enough recruit for a DE. My first impression was based on the listing of 6'3", 230, which is LB size. Ok, upon review, 6'3" isn't necessarily out of the ordinary, though I would prefer taller. Now, I am told, he is 245. If he can get up to 260 minimum, I can live with it, if he can play, that is. As to the bigger, taller guys, they are out there, just being snagged by other schools. We need to get some of those guys. How did Wiscy get this KS kid away from us? #30 Isaiahh Loudermilk DE Howard, KS West Elk 3 stars 6'7" 285 Wisconsin Anyway, list of top 20 DEs: https://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/rankings/rank-3525 Someones gonna have to make me a list of all the Hall of Fame DEs that were 6'7" and weighed 290lbs. Also, Wisconsin runs a 3-4, so their DE's are going to be bigger than NU's DE's. Honestly, I don't know if I would want a 6'7" and 290 lbs DE at NU. I like my DE's fast pass rushers.
  10. I dont know how big of a threat POB would be with the zone read, but he was an effective scrambler in high school. I think POB will be mobile enough to scramble for first downs or get out of the pocket to pass, but I doubt the zone read and other QB-centric run games will be in the game plan after TA leaves.
  11. I understand the coaching staff didn't want to "settle" at recruiting a high school QB in the 2015 cycle, but I thought they should have brought at least 1 QB in. By the time that guy is in his 3rd, 4th, or 5th year in the system, he could have been an option at QB, or at least the backup to POB. I know that it's tough for guys to stay at the school for 4 or 5 years if they are relegated to backup duty. But, there could be a guy like Joe Ganz. Ganz was in BC's first class in 2004, who signed less than a month after Callahan was hired. Ganz stuck it out at NU while he saw guys like Beck, Freeman, and Keller brought in/recruited. Ganz probably could have started as a RS Junior in 2007 and was a pretty good QB in 2008.

  13. They look like spring training jerseys. ^This
  14. Nice work by the coaches on this one. He may be a guy who will contribute early.
  15. OWH A pretty good article. It tells us what we already know: you can't recruit low caliber players and be successful. Yep^. Or have a majority who need to be "coached" up. You can, There are teams every year that are successful doing it. There are just as many teams with great class's that aren't successful also. Please go back through teams that have won National Titles and tell me what their 4-year recruiting average is. If by 'successful' you mean win 8 games, sure. If you want to annually compete for your conference, then no. That entire argument is a logic fail. Just because the last several teams have had classes that were highly ranked doesn't mean that's a necessary component to winning one. Although, I will admit that the playoff system has seriously screwed the "underdog" team (at least in terms of talent) ... whether or not that is a good or bad thing is a separate debate. Actually, I think the playoffs has helped spread the power and chances of a championship. If we win the conference, we are playing for an NC. Simple as that. We have played for the conference championship 3 out of the last 9 years. Sure...we should be there more often. But, 3 out of the last 9 years. Two of those we lost due to simply bad luck be it one second or bad injured QB..etc. I believe we had equal talent on the team for all three. I would have to look back but I don't think Wisconsin had greatly out recruited us 4 years prior to them beating us in the CCG. We constantly have to keep trying to get the best players we possibly can. People who say we don't have the talent on the team to win conference championships simply aren't paying attention. Yes, the cards have to fall right. I think this class is a move in the right direction. I wouldn't say it's as simple as that. I could easily see a scenario where NU loses a tough non-conference game, goes 7-2 in conference and still win the West division. NU would have 3 losses. Even with an upset in the Big Ten title game, that's not going to get NU into the playoff.
  16. So you prefer this guy over Joey Bosa, is that what you're saying? Me, I take Joey Bosa every time. SMU had a DE a few years back, German kid, 6'6" 280, could fly, best DE I'd seen in a long time. Pretty sure he's in the pros now. I dunno, I prefer big fast strong guys at all positions, but some fans seem to prefer smaller, slower guys. Strange. Obviously I would prefer Joey Bosa. I agree that I would love a big, fast dude. But, to say this guy is "too small" to play DE is mis-guided. Now, his overall skill-set may not make him a great DE, but you can't just look at his size.
  17. ZD will never play, JMO. Fyfe is a senior this season, so he is gone in 2017. I think the coaches are looking for another option for 2017 to compete with POB or be a veteran backup. Really bothers me about ZD, I thought he could be a good one for us. Hmm, QB position is suddenly looking pretty thin for '17, I hope they get it figured out. That's why they are bringing in that kid from Tulane. Riley is eyeing him as the backup QB for '17 and maybe '18 if he gets another year of eligibility. Montana's kid? Might have to go up against The Hat(LSU) for him. Nope this guy. http://www.tulanegreenwave.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/tanner_lee_838202.html
  18. Nope, this kid is going to be the exact same as a 21-22 year old as he is as an 18 year old. And how do you know this? Please note sarcasm.
  19. Nope, this kid is going to be the exact same as a 21-22 year old as he is as an 18 year old.
  20. If McMullen is 280, I'm 180. Greg McMullen 6'3" 280 lbs Position: Defensive End Year: Jr. Hometown: Akron, Ohio (Hoban) Greg McMullen was a slow, worthless pass rusher at DE last year. Also, he was listed at 280, but looked at least 300 lbs.
  21. I still don't have any issue with his size. He's 6'3 245. If he can get to 260-270, that's enough size. I don't like it when the DE's are 280+, because I would rather have fast DE's, chasing down the QB. Yes, O-linemen are getting bigger, but against the run, most DE's are asked to hold their ground and occupy blocker(s) and free up the LB's and safeties to make the tackles.

  23. He's 6'3 245. I agree. I don't think he's smallish for a DE. His arm length is going to be more important in keeping linemen off his body. Plus, a shorter guy can have more speed coming off the edge. Von Miller is listed at 6'3" 250. I know he has amazing speed & quickness and plays a 3-4 OLB, but he is basically a rush end on passing downs. The services list him @ 230. But even 245 is small. Big boy DTs are 6'5"+ and 300+ on average these days. If he gets up to 260 minimum, I can live with it.He's at 245 as an 18 year old high school senior. I'm sure by the time he's asked to contribute (RSFR or RSSO) he could easily have put in 10-20 pounds. Don't understand why you'd use DT measurables when talking about him. Because DTs are going to be knocking him on his hiney unless he gets bigger. Every year, Wiscy's OL beats up on our DL, why, because they average about 320. Do you mean offensive OT's? You are confusing everyone with your typos.
