  1. The point I took away is the fact that NU has a dusty trophy case since the 90's yet, us husker fans alike scream and shout how great our program is...when teams like Iowa are achieving what we think we are. Iowa's weak ass schedule....pfft. Weak cuz of why? Playing in the same division as Nebraska? They are 12-0, and if the roles were reversed, everyone on here would be SCREAMING about how it's so tough in this day and age to go unbeaten blah blah blah.... Can I get an Amen??? Amen!!!
  2. It's amazing how fans want to pick out one sentence and totally ignore the rest of the article. Dirk isn't saying that 2015 Iowa is '95 Nebraska. However their style of play is very similar. Don't NU fans want the team to play smarter football with fewer turnovers and penalties. Don't NU fans want a defense that can create turnovers in key junctures of the game? Don't NU fans want a team that takes advantage of the field position game?
  3. The narrative that Iowa only won because of Tommy's INT's is flat out wrong. A good team caused mistakes from the other team. That pick 6 was a very good/great play by the d-end. He shed a poor Lewis block, tipped the ball up with one hand, and made an athletic catch. The INT on Tommy's deep pass in the 3rd quarter was a great read by the DB on that side. He realized no one was in his zone so he went to the center of the field to help double team the deep pass. Not every mistake is solely the fault of the team making the mistake. Good teams cause the other team to screw up. The Iowa defense played well enough against the run, so Langahan decided to turn to the pass to move the offense. Iowa knows NU will make more mistakes in the passing game. That is a good team creating mistakes.
  4. I know Husker fans don't like reading these types of articles from the biggest newspaper in the state, but is Dirk wrong in the article? Are people just upset with the comment of "being stuck in the 90s"?
  5. My only problem with the targeting call is the rule itself. At some point you have to allow a defensive player the chance to make a play. There was no way for Gerry to break up the play other than to target. Football is giving the offense so much leeway anymore it's becoming unbearable at times I really disagree with your conclusion that Gerry had no other way to play it. The game isn't going to survive if the leagues don't find someway to minimize the risk of concussions at best, and more serious injuries at worst. This particular hit was reminiscent to me of the Darryl Stingley play where he was airborn reaching for a ball and paralyzed by Jack Tatum, and Gerry's hit was wildly irresonsible IMO. What was Gerry supposed to do, not make a play on the ball at all? Gerry is coming in to make a play, he has no idea that the WR is going to fall/dive forward towards him. Gerry was going low, the WR fell down into him and that's what caused the hit to the head. I don't know what Gerry could have done differently other than letting the WR catch the ball, then fans would be upset for him not doing anything.
  6. SCREW UP!!! And that's what Nebraska did against Iowa. They royally screwed up. So despite nearly doubling Iowa's yardage, NU never seriously challenged Iowa in this game. This was paraphrasing what Sam said in his post game recap on Omaha.com. If someone is able to post a link, it's worst watching.
  7. Kaz was truly Nostradamus!!! That was amazing to go back and read.
  8. Man, that's such great progress!!! Riley's a genius!! Lose 7 games his first season, so expectations get lowered for following seasons and fans will be accepting of 7 or 8 wins. It's Callahan 2.0.
  9. The two plays happened because Gerry was tossed out and a freshman made freshman mistakes. Langsdorf called a great game. We out yarded them by 200 yds.Do they give victories based on yards? Keep telling yourself these coaches are great. There was not a coach on the sidelines that threw 4 INT's, but if you know of one, please name him?So...just to get this cleared up...the coaches not never at fault for turnovers, correct? They also aren't at fault for penalties, including multiple personal fouls.

Is it coal, electricity, or some type of hybrid?

  12. That's right, a first time starter did. And our brilliant coaches had him throw 50 passes that game.
  13. I don't get how just letting POB be the starting QB is the answer next year. Unless he is a special QB, I don't get how he will be able to come in and make a huge difference. He will be physically and mentally immature, and there is a very strong chance he will struggle as a true freshman. I am not saying TA is the answer, but just don't assume that POB is going to be the man from day 1. I would like to see a Juco QB brought in to give competition to Armstrong, O'Brien and the other QBs. We at least need another QB that can go in when the starter is playing like a dumpster fire.
  14. I have to disagree that we were "competitive" with Iowa. NU never led at any point in the game, and was down 2 scores for most of the 2nd half. Iowa didn't do much on offense because they really didn't need to. I'm sure that's exactly why they didn't do any more on offense. Definitely because they didn't think they needed to... I mean what's the point of converting a 3rd down? For heaven's sake, give the defense some credit. Holding any team to 0-8 on 3rd down is pretty stinkin' good. I do give the defense credit, for most of the game the D played very well. My comment was more about Iowa getting up by 11 and then was content being super conservative, playing field position, and not taking chances. That's what smart teams do.

  16. no different than the last 7 yearsPelini's teams were much better in penalties compared to Riley. Also, the previous 6 years have nothing to do with this year. Stop bringing up the past.
  17. It's always something with this team this year. If it weren't for "this" NU would have won. Well NU didn't win those games. Enough of the excuse train.
  18. One thing for sure is that Riley has found some amazing ways to lose this year. Hail Mary pass, INT on 1st play of OT, passing on 3rd and 7 with a minute left in the game, passing 50 times against a crappy team with your back up QB, losing by more than a TD when the other team doesn't convert a 3rd down.
  19. NU went 5-7 with one of the easiest schedules I can remember. Next year, the schedule gets a lot tougher. Ugh.
  20. I know Armstrong isn't a good QB, so Riley hands the keys to the offense and tries to pull the same crap next year with a true frosh QB? So the Riled Uppers can use the "we're starting a freshman QB, Riley needs more time!!!"
  21. NU had a stretch of like 70 games where it lost once at home.
  22. Turnovers and penalties are an indication of coaching. NU has been terrible in these two stats the entire season. Thanks a lot Riley.
  23. Well Riley got halfway towards #9wins. Coach of the Year!!!
  24. 45 pass attempts for Armstrong, on a cold and windy day, in a game where the largest deficit was 11 points. Thanks, Langsahan.
