Not intending to start rumors or any hypotheticals but there were a number of coaches absent at practice today other than bo and carl. Obviously some were recruiting. Bo was in Orlando etc....point is are any of them gone and we just don't know? Interesting to wonder. Bo said on sports nightly he plans to move quickly with the HIRES. PLURAL .....catches the attention. Could be an interesting week.

Once this hits espn it is going to give other schools a leg up on recruiting away our stud prospects. Hope bo makes a rapid smart hire. Someone with some clout in recruiting and coaching.

When people say...he's small or too big for that position I cringe. Lavonte David is small to be a linebacker. Danny woodhead was too small to be a running back, if you got the skills you have a shot.

It is a waste of time to even be talking about this. I dont care if wisconsin or any opposing fan or group of fans wants to make complete idiots of themselves. We will win most big ten matchups anyway so at the end of the day we will have the last good word. If wisconsin doesnt get lucky with their current quarterback situation they would have not been near what they are. I wish wisconsin luck and hope they win every game except when they play nebraska. I hope our students and or fans never stoop to that level but as osborne says when you have a program who has a history of excellence like Nebraska your fans know how to handle themselves and deal with winning and losing better. Are we the best fans in college football?...maybe..maybe not but either way i think we travel better than any fan base and we love our team more as a state collectively than any other team or region that i have ever lived near or around. That said i am proud to be a husker fan and hope that our fans continue to evolve and be louder and more respectful than ever. Thats all i have to say about that.

I can't figure our situation. It's either poorly timed graduations, a lack of depth or coaching issues but we have yet to be able to field an offense and a defense in the same season lately. Can't we have a top 50 offense when we have a top 10 defense? Or a top 50 defense when we have a good offense? Frustrating.

I caught that little blurb the other day and its hilarious because tom is not intending to harm Wisconsin. He is a coach so still has some competitive nature and if you read the whole exchange tom hits on his disappointment about our fans criticisms and booing but is simply stating facts that overall our fans are used to winning and when you lose fans can get overly critical. Schools who don't have winning traditions can get caught up in their teams success too much and get out of hand.

While optimistic this will be a rout I am cautious until I see that our defense can communicate and execute a play with 11 guys all in position and maybe one or two guys besides David making hard tackles and going above and beyond. Without a defense anyone can score and when that happens you let people feed on hope. We need Blackshirts to show up and dismantle someone before I get too excited about possible blowouts.

I agree he is a must get but from videos I've seen, and I'm no expert, there are guys out there we could add with big v v that have even more potential. I'd love to get v v and maybe a surprise guy like shittu.

I've heard from many recruiting gurus that a good defensive tackle is hardest guy to find. Athletic strong guys who are 6'3 300 lbs and can run don't grow on trees. That said and with crick out and our dline depth perhaps overhyped who is left that we can get who makes big impact? I don't think Vincent v is as good as you think and everyone else seems high on other places. What say you?

Ive been thinking about our defensive personnel and have been wondering what pelini will do saturday. I think the glaring weakness is the backfield followed by the linebackers. I have seen ohio st play a bunch this yr. Both qbs struggle with pressure. I would come out with a 5-2 defense and put my best 2 rush ends out there and fire away with blitzing. I would leave the guys on the edges with one on one coverage and sell out to stop the run and put pressure on the qb. It is a scary thing but the corner opposite dennard will probably get burned anyway regardless of if he has help. Our safties have shown no ability to really help much. I say pressure pressure pressure and make the qb beat you under pressure. It will also allow another body on the field other than a third linebacker. We seem very weak after david. Limit the weakness by putting 2 backers in the game. What say you?

I think issues on defense stem from a myriad of problems. First and foremost is that players have to ultimately play. Pelini cant play the game for them. Ive seen a defense that either gives up or doesnt play with fire. That said I think coaching is a big part of that. I think Bo spends more time right now with the team rather than just the defense. Maybe that is going to have to change. Also i think coach JP has too much responsibility. He is one of our best coaches and when your the special teams coord., the recruiting coordinator and the dline coach that is a ton. I think we need to reevaluate the coaching responsibilities. I think Bo needs to be more involved with the defense and carl needs to be more involved with the dline again to help out papuchis. But this is all speculation cause i dont sit in on practices either. I think the backfield is seeing a transition in coaching philosophies as is the linebacking corps. Its like year one all over again. Another issue is the big 10. We are not used to playing the defense we mostly line up in now in this new league. We rarely had more than one linebacker on the field last year and had 3 total studs in the secondary behind the best linebacker in the big 10 and maybe anywhere. Now the weakness of the linebacker position is showing up and the secondary is all young. You add this all up and it is what we see on the field.

I would play a 5 man front with my three best rush ends and play two linebacker since only two are good. cbs are gonna get burned regardless so may as well sell out to stop the run and pressure the qb. we have a better chance to stop people passing on us with pressure than sitting in coverage.

Defense wins championships. Our defense has kept us in every game the last few years but when they can't stop your opponents it doesn't matter who your offense is. If we hold Wisconsin on even every other drive I believe it changes how offense attacks and plays. Point being this one is on the defense.

In order to be good you have to have a general for a qb. It's something we have lacked since crouch graduated. Teams recruit 2 qbs every year regardless and find one great one every four years or so. I love Tmart speed but he can't make the throws, decisions, or reads required to be a great qb. Slot receiver maybe.

It's simple. Backfield is missing Marvin. Pelinis scheme requires great dbs and we are not good. Dline is fine and linebacker we ok. Offensively beck doesn't understand how to keep a team off balance. Where was Rex early on? What about a screen or a mis direction or reverse. Nothing.

So a friend in Wisconsin for the game said Braylon not on travel roster. Is he hurt?

Pelini doesn't buy into statistics. Who cares the percentage. I guarantee we won't hold anything back we have installed Saturday.
