  1. Wow, How do you put into words what this man has meant to our state. Without a doubt this man is easy to admire for his football accomplishments, but what is most impressive about Coach is how easy it is to admire him as a person.... Tom is the kind of man we should all strive to become.... Thanks Coach, may you have many years to enjoy retirement, and may you be with us when we can all enjoy THE RETURN OF NEBRASKA FOOTBALL....
  2. Got here late in fall camp as well, so he was behind. The only true freshman linebacker's names that I have heard have been Rose, and Brown....
  3. who is better? Why do people not like him? Did he say something critical of Nebraska once? Rece Davis. Because he's not very good. Don't remember, don't care. Next question. The overwhelming opinion is, that he IS good.... If that wasn't the overwhelming opinion, he wouldn't be doing primetime football on ABC.... Rece Davis is ok. Are you having a bad day?
  4. Certainly agree. Was Stanton an ace in the hole?
  5. who is better? Why do people not like him? Did he say something critical of Nebraska once?
  6. Musburger is the best....Hands down....
  7. We learned that there is a lot of potential on this team. 1. Daniel Davie-- He looked real good in coverage today, looks like a bright future. 2. Imani Cross-- Watch Leveon Bell play, and I think you will see that being Cross in a few years. 3. Avery Moss-- He got a lot of push on the pocket in this game, against Idaho St. however. 4. We have four backs that have been, or could be all conference during their Nebraska Careers.
  8. You've clearly missed the point of the thread.... To be honest with you, I didn't finish reading the OP, because the thread title seems so pessimistic. If it's not, then my bad. If you want my opinion on the blackshirt tradition, I think it means something when the defense is stout like in 2009 and 2010, but when the defense plays like crap like last year and so far this year, the blackshirts become a little bit of a joke in terms of national perception. Great defense + winning football games = respect \ Give me a chance man!
  9. No joke.... I stepped away from the tv for awhile, have they mentioned if Ball is playing next weekend?
  10. I agree with that point, but you can't underestimate what appearance means to young kids these days, and clearly you are. As a program, we need all the help we can get in trying to land top recruits, and marketing your program (or the blackshirt tradition in this example) is a very important part of that. Thankfully, the university understands this FACT, and they are showing they recognize this trend with kids by introducing the uniforms for the Wisconsin game. Do you think the university would have agreed to those uniforms if there wasn't a damn good reason behind it? No, they understand what appeals to kids these days. If you want "defensive players destroying QB's" then you better know how to get those kind of players here, and you better use every advantage possible to get it done....
  11. I'm gonna mock fellow Husker fans for remembering the 90's fondly chuckleshuffle :ahhhhhhhh .... (God knows Knapp would hate that)
  12. I may have gotten off track in the beginning of the OP, but I was originally trying to point out the appeal the tradition could have to young kids if we use (or market) the tradition effectively. The tradition could enhance our image, and appeal to talented young athletes.... For instance, I would have loved to have seen the blackshirt logo involved in the Wisky uniforms in some way....
  13. Is that you, Stevie P? Seriously, they do away with the Blackshirts, I'm done with Husker football. It better NEVER happen. You don't get rid of tradition because you don't have the right people to recruit players who make the tradition stand. That's called 'giving up.' Real original pal.... You've clearly missed the point of the thread....
  14. What do you guys think about the tradition from a marketing standpoint? The tradition, and it's logo could become a very appealing part of this program if marketed correctly. The tradition lives, but I think the program could use it to their advantage a little more.... The kids love it (Vincent Valentine on signing day below).....
  15. For obvious reasons, there has been zero mention of the Blackshirts by the media, or the coaches during the early part of the season (even fall camp). The defense has been underwhelming, but the lack of conversation about the Blackshirts is somewhat alarming to me. The current staff obviously doesn't share the same "love" for the Blackshirt tradition that the Osborne/Solich staffs did, or that we as the fans do. If our defense remains ineffective in the years to come, I could see the tradition phasing out in some form within the program, because of the lack of attention that it receives from the current staff, and players. Simply, the tradition doesn't mean the same to those within the program, as it does to the fanbase, and maybe the players in the past. It will be something interesting to watch going forward with this current administration over the years. Also, it can't be understated what the Blackshirt tradition can mean for the program from a marketing standpoint (Marketing major here). The Skull & Bones logo gives the program some "Swag", and offers a bad boy image for our defense which can be very attractive to incoming recruits. When dealing with a generation where appearance most definitely matters, it is important to offer something "cool" within your program to enhance the image amongst young kids. The uniforms against Wisky are evidence of this, and the correct marketing of the Blackshirt tradition can be as well. The Skull & Bones logo is badass, and it looks sweet on the new Throwback/Snapback hats! What do you guys think?
  16. You think the defense will give up 20 points? Yes unless seen otherwise.... See: Arkansas St. game LAST WEEK.... Defense gave up 6 points.....
  17. You won't see Tommy as long as Taylor is healthy. You think they'll score 20-28 points on us? I know they throw the ball a lot, but they should be lacking some talent (right?). 57-9
  18. It comes down to winning games. If Nebraska wins games, then there is no reason they can't recruit with the likes of Michigan, Ohio St., and the "daunting" SEC schools as well..... The OP was thoughtful, and well put, but it is a very narrow minded opinion, that doesn't look too far into the past, or too far into the future.... The OP seemed to have the assumption that Nebraska, and the B1G should accept the SEC for what it CURRENTLY is. I don't know if many of us can speak for the other B1G schools, but I promise you that as Nebraska fans, we EXPECT our team to get back to the level where we smack around the best programs. Yes, even the USC's, Florida's, and Alabama's of the world. There is no reason Nebraska can't return to greatness, our school's location is not something new in the last decade. Winning takes care of everything. If we win, we get the best players, and become the best team. The SEC can be beat (proof below): 62-24
