  1. Okay... now that you've said that... have to do it... SHENANIGANS!
  2. Yeah, I was torn between the two leaders. Ultimately went with the defense, because they need to keep the momentum from the last few weeks going into this game. But they need to make sure ball security on offense is a priority as well.
  3. And FWIW, I think BR's tweet says it all. Very unusual in Connie's program. Just never hear about players getting booting for not following the rules.
  4. Per LJS and OWH, sophmore Rebecca Woodberry is no longer with the team for violating team policies. OWH link here: http://www.omaha.com/article/20121031/HUSKERS/121039912/1001#yori-announces-woodberry-no-longer-a-husker LJS tweet from BR here: https://twitter.com/intent/user?screen_name=HuskerExtraBR
  5. haha - you've found one of the many local watering holes located in each little town of western Nebraska haven't you? I grew up back there. You're right - there's wheat too! Face it, there is nothing there. 99% of the people there will admit that. The ones that can't just don't realize what else is out there - or didn't like it when they found it. Nothing wrong w/ either. But the fac that there's nothing there is what's great about it. But let's not pretend the greater part of Nebraska has much to offer anyone that wasn't already a small town kid to start with. Really depends on what you want to look for when you do look, kc. I understand that I've probably got a different outlook on it, having grown up in several different small towns while I was growing up (having lived in two different corners of the state, along with living in Omaha for four years, and having called Lincoln home, for the most part, since I graduated high school, along with working my first professional job in the middle part of the state). But the jewels in Nebraska are out there, if you want to look for them. And no, not really talking about local bars/watering holes. Bars were never my thing too much. The problem isn't in whether there is anything out there to see, it's in what's important to you, and whether you want to open your eyes to see it. I understand a lot of people don't care about the things I would list, that's fine. But a lot of folks don't even bother to find out what's out there, because they take the mindset that there's NOTHING there, when a little research and a little exploration might show them differently. Sorry to offtrack the thread so much. Just kind of passionate about rural Nebraska in a lot of different ways.
  6. All right, to get back on topic, I caught brief snippets of the announcers once in a while. I thought their commentary was pretty biased towards Michigan most of the time. However, the 'phantom' pass interference call even left them scratching their heads, which I thought showed just how bad that call was. I usually watch the TV with family in the room, but have the computer in front of me and have the HSN broadcast streaming so I can listen to Greg. Much rather listen to our guys than most TV announcers.
  7. If you're going to have Herbie running around at a pumpkin patch around Halloween, at least get it done at Roca Berry Farm, which actually IS a Lincoln institution. And for those saying there's nothing but corn and cows in out-state Nebraska... just stop. I live in out-state Nebraska for many years, and if you guys can't be bothered to actually find the many jewels in the state that aren't in Omaha and Lincoln, don't bother to comment on them. Just because you don't want to acknowledge them and like playing this game doesn't mean others appreciate it. I love this state and ALL the areas of it. Stop disparaging the rest of the state and playing right into the hands of those from the coasts that think that's all we are.
  8. I'm hopeful for what Miles can do with this team this year. My optimistic look tells me 10-3 for non-con. We'll see what materializes as we go, but I think these guys actually have a ton of potential.
  9. The information in the OWH article regarding the passage sounded pretty good. Basically gave the go-ahead to start getting things done on the project. It sounds like there will be at least one more vote for the Regents to make when there are more specifics regarding the financing. But with that vote giving the go-ahead to get started, this project will likely materialize fairly quickly. I think they'd like to have it ready to go by '15 or '16. Article is here: http://www.omaha.com/article/20121026/MAVS/310269837/1085#regents-approve-uno-arena-building-plan I'm hoping to scan some materials that I got from the Regents office and post them on my blogsite sometime soon. I'll let you know when that happens. Looks like a great opportunity for UNO, though!
  10. Haven't had much time to get back to this since the season started, and we're already at the last regular season game. Interesting that the women could end with the same record in conference as last year (4-7-0), and yet they're already guaranteed of making the tournament, where they didn't make it last year (only top 8 in conference go to the tournament). Today's match against Minnesota could put them in 7th going into the tournament, which would help, because eighth plays Penn St., who hasn't lost a match in play this year, and only has one tie. At least they'll get to continue their season this year. There have been some good things this season, though it's clear they have some work to do to battle with the top of the conference. Good things to build on for next season. Should be interesting to see whether TO does the eval himself, or whether he lets Eichorst evaluate the season to see what direction they want to go in. Tough to fire the only coach the program has ever had, but sometimes you have to accept that maybe it's just not going where you want. I could see giving him another year to develop some freshmen and sophomores that are loaded with potential for the future, but I could also see making the change now, to maybe have the potential for when these kids are juniors and seniors in a couple years. Will be interesting to see how the season is evaluated. The 4-0 and 4-1 losses recently to the top of the conference can't feel too good to the administration.
  11. Considering the number of comments in this thread about how scalpers were selling ticket, his point really is negated by the fact that tickets were available (and likely at a decent cost as the game neared its start time). He just needs to give a rest.
  12. Loved the various shoutouts to the team, there were about three of them throughout. But the thing that still has me chuckling was his comment under Flop of the Week, and talking about SC - the technical term for what happened being 'ralphed themselves'. ROFL And I've actually liked Spurrier better since he's been at SC, but that line was too hilarious.
  13. The sad thing for this guy is... those Nebraska fans buying up those tickets did help NW, by quite a bit. Regardless of whether it builds their fan base, you better believe the athletic department was cheering for joy when the dollars rolled in off all the tickets were bought, regardless of how the stadium looked regarding Red v. Purple. HE may not like it... but the AD was celebrating for that extra money he gets to plug in to the budget this year. Don't like it? Then start pumping NW up around you. Do more to get the Chicago crowd involved and focused on the team. But complaining on your FB page, of all places, about Nebraskans buying the tickets? How utterly pointless can you be?
  14. Not a big fan of the LJS outside the Sports section, and certainly not of Nancy Hicks. But she does have interesting tidbits every so often in her columns. Today was a bit about the 'topping off' of the arena, scheduled for 12/12/12. Should be fun, and it sounds like there will be opportunities for the public to sign the beam before it goes into place. Link is here: http://journalstar.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/nancy-hicks-preparing-for-arena-topping-off-ceremony/article_c0bc2b05-0949-5fa6-893a-144e4b6dba9f.html
  15. I think we come out, and have some of the problems with turnovers/penalties/errors fixed, but not all. I'm torn between 31-21 NU-MU, and 38-28 NU-MU. Just a gut feeling, but I'm predicting the latter. For those who can't see it... look at the first quarter of the OSU game and the latter part of NW last week. The potential is there, it's getting it done in crunch time. And I think we find a lot more of that this week than we have the last couple weeks. The real piece is this... If we can keep the big problem pieces, specifically turnovers, down to 2-3, I think we win like I stated above. If we can keep them to 0 or 1? I think we win by 21-28 points. If we hit 4 or more, I think we'll lose by a TD or more. Should be a great game, and GBR!
  16. From the people I've heard that may have some inside knowledge, I think a good chunk of it has already been raised, or at least committed (may not have the dollars in hand, per se, but have commitments from sources they feel are solid). I don't think Alberts and Christensen have any desire to put themselves in too big a hole by committing to this without at least a huge chunk planned for already. Especially after finally finishing the '11-'12 year in the black for the first time in 11 years. I like the looks of where they want to put it, and at least the look of the initial design. I also agree, OH, that it should be very good for the teams. Give them a place to practice that is their own, as well as a home to call their own on campus. I think it can only help their revenue streams in the long run as well.
  17. I am shocked, SHOCKED, I say, that Kansas State would allow anything of the sort to happen.
  18. My thought came from a movie that knapp's about the right age for... paraphrased, of course, for relevance... Well, with your bad back, knapp, you shouldn't be climbing any walls... it's true... Plus 1 for first person to get the movie reference... and I know it's a bad paraphrase for the situation. Still was the first thing that came to mind.
  19. Another thread regarding hockey: http://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?/topic/58006-another-reason-nebraska-needs-div-i-hockey/ And I think we had one more discussion about it as well somewhere along the line. But like I said there, I'm thinking new sports likely won't happen at least until we are 'fully vested' in our share of money from the B1G. Once that happens, I could definitely see it as a strong possibility. But then, with Eichorst, maybe if we see a nice bump in revenue from basketball as part of the arena opening next year (along with volleyball likely making enough to pay for itself and at least make a small contribution to the athletic department after their move next year) maybe that will be all the incentive they'll need to do it. Regardless, Eichorst's words were good to hear, and what I think people needed to hear from him. Someone that will come in and keep the tradition of the institution, and not try to 'put his stamp on it' as it were. I think he'll fit in fine here. Probably the only question will be if/when BA retires, will he move there? But I'm just glad to have him here right now.
