  1. The boring comment also relates to the Moe Iba situation. They brought in Nee who was uptempo and that energized the fan base a bit. Would also say that upgrading the non-con would also spark interest in the program.
  2. Terrific Post KJ. Lots of good stuff there.
  3. I consider him a great A.D. He repaired a fractured athletic department. Got new facilities going. That wrestling, mens & womens basketball can use. The balance sheet is good. Made some tough choices that I think will work out well. Time will tell. He was instrumental in the move from the b12 to the b1g. Regardless of how his hires turn out, I think he made a tremendous contribution to the University beyond football. Personally I think basketball is an afterthought because they are losing. If they get the right guy it won't be an afterthought. Look at Baseball, at one time that was an afterthought. Basketball is the same way.
  4. Renda probably doesn't have the arm to play short. I understand the concern about short. It's our weakest spot in the INF. Chad is adequate at SS. He has his limitations there but he is the steadiest guy we have at that spot right now. Eventually I think they will work Kelly back in there but I could be wrong. There's some growing pains to work through there. Depends upon how the bats go too.
  5. I don't get too wrapped up in the spring depth chart as nowadays it's more about experimentation, development & try outs, I think it's more about who pops out. Sounds like the Osborne twins both did well. Read on another board that they are going to 4 stations which I am very happy about. More live teaching & reps, reps & reps for more players = development, efficient use of time for more players.
  6. i believe we were 68-32 run pass in 2011....Beck has stated he wants to be 50/50 this season......probably a lot of short stuff, not sure how that will play. Yah, I saw that. Wasn't thrilled, but you have a point in that short stuff can be like a handoff. I guess as long as we remain physical and aggressive and don't get in long yardage situations then it doesn't matter how you do it, although I think it's hardier to wear teams down with any type of passing game. I liked our ration last year. I would of prefer them not to run Rex quite as much but I thought when they concentrated on the run and stayed in front of the chains we did better. I think play action helps Tmart. If they go 50/50 we will probably see less of what I like.
  7. Watched the Ohio game tonight they won a close won. Groce strikes me as more of a Collier-type coach. Lets them play during the game, does his coaching in practice. The key of course is recruiting. I am leaning Marshall. Pastner would be a great recruiter.
  8. Good job Huskers! Fun game to listen too. Compete Compete Compete. I like our chances tomorrow.
  9. If I had to pick 3 out of the LJS list... I wasn't real keen on Groce, but he has grown on me. Pluses are he can recruit B1G country and is known as a recruiter. He was a Ohio State assistant so he knows the B1G. Very competitive & smart. I would like this hire. I think he would be the most open. Marshall has an impressive track record. I was really impressed when they destroyed NU last year. He would be a good hire. I think he can coach and recruit, Shaka can recruit. Runs an exciting brand of basketball. I would like to see what this guy could do with Nebraska's facilities in a big time conference. --------------------------------------- On the bubble was Howland. He can recruit the big boys but he runs a loose program. He is a name coach though and I think could get us there. I think he is reachable because of Boehm and timing. He's had an off year at UCLA and some negative pub. I am not a fan of Miles for this job at this particular time. Recruiting at a b1g level is my concern.
  10. There were several games where our tendencies hurt us. So we need to have a better mix of counters off of some of our plays to keep the defense honest. I thought we did okay with play action, but there are run counters that I think we could do as well. I would like to see less play calling from the sideline. From an NCAA standpoint I think they should outlaw this. Once they wind the clock the players should be on their own until the whistle blows, the only thing the coaches should be able to do is call time out. More subbing in games for player development. QB,RB,OL,WR all had players that I think could of got more time. I prefer an offense with a strong run game, so I'd like to see anywhere between 60-40 and 70-30 run/pass ratio.
  11. +1. I think things would of been different if the facilities were in place earlier in Doc's career. I think the new arena actually put an onus on Doc & staff in that they have to fill seats and enthusiasm was not what it needed to be. I think Doc would do well at SMU and hope he and his entire staff get that job.
  12. +1. Basketball is mostly about recruiting, then comes coaching. I think it is paramount that they get some top 4&5 recruits right away so that they can jump start interest. There are some candidates for medical hardships and Fahro may or may not have that offer honored when the new coach comes in. You may have a transfer or two from players loyal to Doc. These events are opportunities for the new coach to fill those spots with some star powered recuits and will need to be taken advantage of.
  13. The way I read this is they will try to get the big splash coach to put butts in the seats & energize the fan base. A guy that will be able to recruit nationally. So that means it's going to be a big name or a very hot commodity that is well known nationally with a lot of recruiting ties. I think that narrows this list down a bit. If they can get the candidate to visit Lincoln then I think we have a good shot. http://my.journalsta...votal_hire.html
  14. Sooo close. Need to bounce back and erase that memory. Going to be a nice day at the ol' park today
  15. Sad to see it happen. I wish Doc the best. I wanted to see him succeed. T.O didn't have much choice had to make the call.
  16. Not a very good job by buzzer/time people/ref at the end of the OT
  17. I agree we need more speed on D or at least be able to collapse the pocket. I can live with a controlled pass rush as long as we collapse the pocket in 3 seconds or pressure the QB to get rid of it. I also want more speed in the secondary. We got beat deep too many times, which given Bo's philosophy that should not happen!!!!
  18. Southern Miss W @ UCLA I think we will win in a contested match. New coaching staff and UCLA has major consistency issues to work through. Arkansas St...W Idaho St...W Wisconsin... Tough game especially with Ball back. With Wilson gone and the game being in Lincoln, I think NU will be up for this one and win a close one. @ Ohio St... Tossup Have to go with OSU on the road in a close game. Miller is mobile and what's his face is a good coach. They have good talent @ Northwestern. Bo clearly got outcoached last year. I don't think this will happen again. Players better remember last years game. Michigan.. Tough match up for the Huskers. I think we lose a close one @ Michigan St. I think NU will win as they have to find a QB & RB. Solid team though and it will be somewhat close Penn St... I think Nebraska can win this at home. New staff & they still need to work out QB issues. Minnestoa I think these guys are better than people think. Kill is a good coach. Nebraska wins but it won't be a blow out. @ Iowa I think Nebraska will win a squeaker. Again it's a new staff at Iowa and they have holes to fill. I think the staff was over confident last year with the D. I think they will be better because they now know how they match up to b1g competition and what they need to work on. I also think they will spend more time on the D as compared to last year when they were concentrating on getting the new offense going. I expect more consistency from both units in 2012.
  19. http://www.omaha.com/article/20120303/BIGRED/703039774/-1#nu-recruit-coleman-remains-an-enigma He may be raw offensively, but you would think this guy will help defensively and with rebounding. He gives us an athletic big man to match up in the b1g. I see him coming off the bench his first year in support at PF and at center if Diaz doesn't come back. Then he will need to contribute full time his Junior & Senior years. Fahro has some offensive skills to help us at PF, but the suspension has me concerned and I'd rather move on, however it sounds like they are going to honor the offer though. Not sure how he can fulfill his class requirement off-shore. He must be doing an internet class. I heard Young may end up MVP of the league they are in. (5 teams??) His numbers aren't eye popping though. Not sure what to think. Still I have him pencilled in as a starter for next year. Both Sheilds and Parker will need to step in an help us next year. I think Sheilds can help off the bench. Parker is going to be in the mix right off out of necessity. Tough assignment to have Parker be a starting PG coming out of H.S. so I rather he came off the bench. Since Hillard has been oft injured and didn't get much development time in this year and I am unsure if Reyes has been working at the point, I would like to see them sign Biggs. I think Christopher needs to hang it up with all those injuries. Then depending upon Diaz and Fahro status they have to score some high powered recruits.
  20. Looks like a solid all-around player. I think the announcer said it all. He presents a nice big target for the QB. Plays basketball too so you know he is solid in the hands department. Looks like a good blocker.
  21. Will be hard to find to many centers better than this guy! Would be a great get.
  22. I'd agree that Maric was the best. Ade had a nice senior season and was probably his best recruit. I have hopes for the incoming class but we need some star power to compete in the b1g.
  23. Doc has lost the team. The play where Williams dribbled all the way down and slammed the ball without being challenged was just flat out embarrassing. They got to do something different & fast. Doc needs to pull in some major recruits fast or they will be pulling the plug. He's on life support and needs a couple of miracle recruits. Needs to put Christopher on medical, let Fahro go. Get a commitment from Diaz on whether he is in or out. Cure his feet overnight. Get Biggs, Chris Thompson and Randle in the class.
  24. Fightin' Erstads....why do I like that? It sounds silly, but it's sticking with me.
  25. Looks like he could play anywhere along the line to me.
