slacker
Irregular News for 11.13.06 Madrid, Spain -- A Spanish town council has vowed to banish sexism from street signage by demanding half of all road signs and traffic lights show female figures with skirts and ponytails. Fuenlabrada, which lies south of the capital Madrid, will replace old and damaged road signs and traffic lights with new stock within a year. "In this way the sexism which until now has seen only masculine figures appear in traffic signals will be brought to an end," the town council said in a statement. The council, which said it would ask manufacturers to incorporate female figures in their signs, would not cost taxpayers a penny. source Quote Link to comment

Redman
So, the icon used of females in area will be of a schoolgirls? This is to overcome sexism? Why not have them in knee-high boots and fishnets as well. Oh, and they need to be holding a lolly-pop. Quote Link to comment

The US is one of the few countries on this planet that considers showing females in an attractive way as sexist. Quote Link to comment

The US is one of the few countries on this planet that considers showing females in an attractive way as sexist. I realized this. I was poking fun at the pseudo-negative sub-message being sent in the ways they are choosing to depict the females within the signs. Using skirts and ponytails seems like a completely male schoolgirl fantasy-like depiction, and they are using the image to conquer sexism. Quote Link to comment
