Did anyone else notice this?

This may have been discussed already somewhere, but I haven't been around here much since the game so I may have missed it. Anyway, it was sometime in the 2nd qtr, the refs were measuring to see if WF got a first down, and when they had the stick up in the air to pull the slack out of the chain, it looked like it was several inches in front of the ball, but when they put the stick down they let the chain slack back up and set it right next to the ball. It seemed very suspicious to me, I was wondering if anyone else caught that.

It was because the orange padding came loose and that is what you saw beyond the ball. The black pole was always behind the end of the ball and it was a first down and the chain was tight.

Well you're the second one to say that, but I'd have to see it again to believe it. I swear that chain looked loose lying next to the ball.

Completely! I've wanted to start a topic on this, but I couldn't record the game, so couldn't go back to check it and confirm it...however, all 4 of my friends saw the stick start to come down a good 3 inches in front of the ball, and then get moved back to exactly the center of the football, with no question as to why. It was very obvious! Nothing said on TV or anywhere else!

Thanks for posting this, apparently the ACC chain gang uses rubber links...
