Hardnose fb vs WCO

Recommended Posts

I truely hate the idea that NEbraska fades in the 3rd and 4th qtrs, with hardnose football this use to be the best part of the game, when Nebraska would hammer the ball over and over down the middle or option making the D tired gasping for air or off the field nursing them selves.

Nebraska use to control the clock, its hard for a team to score if they dont get their O on the field, this is partly due to the passing abilities or disabilities of Dailey and partly due to a coach who doesnt beleave in Nebraska style football, I wanted to pass a little more when solich was hc but that was because he would run the ball when the D was over loading the box it just made sence.

Callahan just seems to want to pass 40 times per game no matter what, 3 in the box doesnt matter here comes another pass play.... Solich had some ruff spots in his time as HC but at least he knew what Nebraska football was all about, Callahan on the other hand has no idea, The team doesnt look the way they use to they are not fired up but wrather seem to be going threw the motions until the end of the game, thats a coaching problem, they dont look rdy for games and they are playing way below the ability that ithey have.

Call me a hater or what have you, I love NEbraska I have been a fan for years daiting back to when sungrove was QB.

I hope things turn out different than what I see them doing in the last two games only time will tell and it all depends on what NEbraska team shows up to the final two games that is what will determin the possibility of a bowl game.

dailey only threw the ball 13 times yesterday.

lol HuskerRebel.  I thought that field goal said a few things.  Screw Bo Pelini, you aren't getting a shutout, not on the Huskers this year, not ever.  And Oklahoma-Nebraska, it's still a rivalry.  They dominated the whole way, but they wouldn't get the pleasure of a shutout.

I can't believe we've been reduced to celebrating a last second field goal that beat the 30 pt. spread. And some people in here refuse to believe how far we've sunk in one year. I think it's really sad, personally.

You see it as sinking, I see it as having a better future. It's as simple as that. :)

I agree, I miss smashmouth football. We are such a weenie team anymore. I can't believe this is suppose to be NEBRASKA FOOTBALL!

Hey Benard, how did you like that offensive gameplan? 40 rushes for 200 yards. Basically killed our workhorse too. I bet you're happy now, because "hardnose football" works. Every play was a freakin draw. I don't get it, the Huskers didn't even attempt a pass of more than 15 yards.

I thinkhes jus sayin that its kinda pathetic what gets us excited this yr. i felt the same way after cheergin for that FG. then i lookd around and realize WTF am i doing?? we are THE Nebraska Cornhuskers and Im cherring b/c we just got our only 3 pts of teh game and didnt let them skunk us. Thats bush league crap and the stuff the other sally teams used to do to us, and i always laughed at them and called them pathetic. kinda sux to think weve come full circle. so i agree with UH there.

One year??? This is the end result of a dynamic that has been going on longer than that.

My thoughts exactly.

Listen I only celebrated because I beat the spread, pissed off the Okies who would have won my money, and that's all.

I have mentioned this fact before, yet I must reiterate it. It hurts to see us play so poorly. That I was jubilant over a 27-point loss to the damn Sooners shows me where we have fallen to this season also. I, though, am not ready to keel over and die; the Husker nation will have a season to celebrate soon enough and Oklahoma, of all teams, knows that fact all too well.

Not so long ago they were posting a 500-season. It didn't take them long to revive their program. Of course, they had to get rid of John Blake to do it. (Blake's a good assistant, but I didn't think he was head coach material. He can recruit and teach his position well.)

Haven't heard any news on Ross. The Corn Coast O has been very dependent on his legs this past six weeks.

Let's hope I never celebrate a 27-point Husker loss anytime soon.

You're proving his point. Running draw plays is not hardnosed.

Then what is? We should probably define it before we start comparing.

WCO - seeks a balance of both passing and rushing.

"Hard nose" - fullback dives all day? QB is the main rushing threat? What?

Running the Power I is different than trying to run draws out of shotgun sets. A draw by definition is trying to sell the pass to catch the D-Line off guard. When you sell the pass you're not powering off the line and punishing anybody, most of your line is pass-blocking. I think what some in this thread miss is knocking the D-Line on their back so many times that by the time the 4th quarter rolls around they just fade away.

What is hard nosed? Playing football without pads or a helmet? Running between the tackles with a fullback leadblocking? Utah boy, you are proving MY point.

Did you even read my last post? There was one after the one you quoted.

Well yea, that was great being able to do that. But the truth of the matter is we haven't been able to do that for many years.

Are we going to define hardnose football?

I thought I did in that last post. It's pounding the defense. Punishing them instead of absorbing punishment. Running draws out of WCO formations does not do that. That punishes the running back without really hurting the defense at all. And when you say we haven't done that for many years, I don't know what you're talking about. These last two years weren't outstanding, but up through 2001, I think we were pretty consistent at wearing out defenses. Even in the Colorado blowout, we scored 36 points, rolled up 354 rusing yards and 552 total yards. You can't blame the offense because the linebackers didn't play. Yes we got creamed by Miami that year but anyone would have. A lot of people think they were as good as '95 Nebraska.

I didn't realize that you were trying to define it. I wasn't expecting a definition of an offense by what it does to the defense.

We haven't had a extremely dominant o-line since 97. We've had some mediocre ones and that's about it IMO.

I would like to meet these people that think that team was as good as the 95 team.
