Question of running up the scor

Recommended Posts

This is yet another bogus rumor and baseless information. No one ever made negative remarks like this in the 90's when Nebraska won 77-0 over Iowa State....or even putting up 62 on Florida. Seems like that sure is running up the score just as much. Is Mark Mangino trying to prove he is a jock and get job offers as well? Have some common sense. This is all because no one here likes Callahan so anything he does is going to come under fire.

That's bullcrap. When Osborne did it, we had 3rd, 4th, and 5th teamers, mostly undersized walkons running fullback dives and iso plays into the middle of the line. That normally started halfway through the 3rd quarter. He didn't have his first unit guys in there running the full playbook. If you can't stop the 4th team on base plays, too bad. If your coach is calling pass plays on 4th and 20 with your starters in there, it's classless.

That's interesting..Why do most people consider Pass plays more offensive than running plays in these situations? Ozzy's teams used to average 7+ YPC on the ground. Is it just the clock stopping after incompletions?

Good question. I would guess that the reason is that passing generally has the potential to go for more yardage, more quickly - and to score more easily or readily.
