I truly hope that the OU-NU rivalry is restored. I remember playing pee-wee football one saturday in 2000 when OU and NU played..EVERYONE had some sort of radio on the sidelines and we'd have these husker fans that had children playing that would stand up and yell when nothing was going on in our game..

It is too bad Oklahoma didn't accept our offer to play non-conference games against each other in our off conference years. But now it is our responsibility to enhance the rivalry by getting back to conference championship games against Oklahama. Oklahoma will be there half the time. We need to be there half the time too. That would cause us to meet three out of four years. It is ridiculous to start calling Colorado our rival just because we don't play Oklahoma about one year in four. My word, we beat Colorado about 25 years in a row from the 60s to 90s.

At the conclusion of this season Kansas will officially be NU's rival. Why you ask?

3 Legit Reasons:

#1 Oldest Rivalry for NU (yes by only a few games, but still it counts)

#2 Kansas is the only team to EVER score 76 points on Nebraska (most points EVER given up by the blackshirts)

#3 And finally, the rivalry is now competetive. After this season, KU will of beat Nebraska 3 of the last 4 seasons.

The KU VS. NU rivalry is just beginning to get good kids!! :koolaid2:

I think as far as the North goes it should be Mizzou.

1. One of Nu oldest rivalry games. 101 games played

2. Traveling trophy. MU/NU Bell

3. Missouri has had the most sucsess against NE compared to other North teams. Nebraska owns a 64% win percentage against Mu. And that includes a string of 24 straight victories. Meaning that minus one period where MU was horrible this has been about as even as it can be. The next best to Mizzou's 36% win percentage against NU is Colorado at 29%. Ku is at 21% & K-state and Iowa State each at 17%

4. The teams have each won home games against the other since 03.

5. There is some dislike between players and fans.

6. There is also some respect about the other team as well.

Ultimatly CU would probably be it because of the hate between the fans. But for the argument of waht makes the most sense, it would be Mizzou

Found some other fun facts.

MU has 8 shut out of NU - most of any other team

Most of the Nu/MU games have been within a hand full of scores. Although there have been some blowouts. Nebraska has won by 30+, 19 times. Mu won by 30+ only 4.

The highest win against each other is Nebraska with a +62 margin and Mizzou with a +41 margin.

NU, CU, MU & KU (14 games over for the jayhawks) are the only North teams with an alltime winning record.

NU & CU are the only ones with a winning altime big 12 record. MU is close, only 4 games under .500. Kansas is the next in line at 99 games under .500.

anyway, kinda a stat geek ;)

So…what’s the big deal about a rivalry anyway? As far as I’m concerned, you should just go out and stomp everybody equally.

That being said, below are listed the reasons why NU really doesn’t and probably can’t realistically have a real rivalry with any of the teams in the Big 12 North.

Iowa State – At present, having a rivalry with ISU would be like kicking a kitten or pushing a paraplegic out of his wheel chair...the game hasn’t really been a contest since the 1800’s. Anyway, ISU fans generally like NU even if you do consider us the best DII team in the Big 12. Plus, the Cyclones already have a rivalry with the loathed morons over in Iowa City and don’t have enough energy to expend worrying about adding another rivalry. Rivalry Score: -1

Kansas – This has all the makings of a good rivalry…about 50 years from now. One good year and one blow-out against a lousy defense doesn’t add up to a rivalry…only to revenge. Once NU blows out KU in 08, Kansas should tumble back to the also ran category and things will be back to normal. Rivalry Score: 3

Kansas State – It’s impossible to have a rivalry against somebody when the majority of the players on the opposing team are only there for two years. Instead of having a rivalry with KSU, you find yourself not having a rivalry with another school but with every Podunk community college located in the Great Plains states. That’s like 50 rivalries in one game. Who needs that kind of nickel/dime nonsense? Rivalry Score: 1

Colorado – Let’s face the truth here. This wouldn’t be so much a rivalry against Colorado as it would be a rivalry against God since the only reason CU actually stands a chance against anyone on a consistent basis is when the other team finds itself starved for oxygen. When the Buffs venture out onto the plains they usually get their asses handed to them by everybody…even ISU. So, unless this was a perpetual away game for Nebraska…lousy rivalry. Rivalry Score: 3

Missouri - You don’t want your rivalry game to be against the biggest cheap shot teams in the history of Big 8/12 football…and the only team whose state fought on the side of the South in the Civil War (those solidifying their “loser” image). MU has a history on the football field…of clips, late hits, questionable eligibility, missing transcripts…but not at stringing together a consistent winning football team. Having a rivalry with Missouri would be like helping the dumb kid cheat in math class. It makes him look good but you don’t look any better. Rivalry Score: 3

And there you have it…if a team can't score at least a 5 (and preferably a 7) there really can't be a rivalry (it's in the NCAA rule book...article IV, Section 109..."Teams that suck trying to make themselves look better by declaring that a historically better and well known team is their "rival").

Lawrence, KS has a high school named "Lawrence Free State High School"

Double dog dare Columbia, MO to name a high school "Columbia Slave State High School"

One blowout/track meet in Lawrence doesn't add up to a rivalry.. The series has been REALLY lopsided!! Thus, its as much of a rivalry as Mangino vs. a Buffet..Kansas being the buffet of course.
