HuskerTrucker
IMO, I think that Coach Watson has the Offense playing very well. He can't control the turnovers, but I really like his play calling the second half of the season. Listening to the post game call-in show last night on the way home from Manhatten, people were excited about our TEs getting into the action the last 2-3 weeks....they gave credit to Ron Brown for the emergence of the TE..... I agree and disagree....Ron Brown is a great coach and a better person, but I give Watson the credit for getting the TE involved. If you remember Graham and Kloppenstein (sp) killed us at TE when they were at CU and Watson calling Offense. He likes to use his TE... the reason why they disappeared the last few years is because BC was calling the plays. Now that Watson is calling , we are much more balanced....not only run-pass, but to whom we pass to....WR-RB-TE This staff will bring NU back to prominance. Gee..wasn't even 4 weeks ago and people were calling for Watson's head...I think time will prove that we have the right coaches...all of them. I just hope that they add someone to work with special teams more. Quote Link to comment
huskerpilot
our offense played well against a top 25 team.... #2 texas tech anybody? Seriously. I mean we won that game essentially. Quote Link to comment
huskerpilot
Well, its the off week so plenty of time to chew the fat. For me that fat is all this talk about us having an awful offense. I have to disagree. Our offense is effective and gets the job done. People are really upset that we are a "finesse" team. Its probably true, and we probably are a little too finess. I don't think anyone is arguing that it would be a bad thing to get some power running backs that can really shove it down some throats. That said though, we are doing everything that a good team needs to do on offense. We score TONS of points, even more than in the glory years really. Also we are number 2 in the nation in time of possession which is a huge deal when playing against teams like Texas Tech. We did let the missouri game get out of hand, but I think we have matured alot since then. Even the OU game IMHO would have been somewhat close if our morale hadn't been destroyed by some very unlucky events. Anyway, I just wanted to stand up and say, even if I'm the only one, I like our offense, think the guys are doing a hell of a good job, and if being a fitness team means controlling the clock and score board the way we do...I love it. Oh...and I hope we post a solid 70 points on sCUm I totally disagree with you on that one. We scored 17 points against Missouri (10 really, the last second TD didnt really matter). The '97 Huskers would've lit up that defense. I didn't want to come accross as saying we were a better team, or even a better offense. But we have a different style now, it just so happens that this particular type of offense scores more points (numerically) that teams of the 90's. Their victories were FAR more decisive, and complete, but our team does put up similar numbers on the O side of the ball. I don't want to even talk about defense for a few more years. HUSKER 37
This season's Offense has been a little better than I expected..But it still reminds me of the 1995 Florida Gators that our Blackshirts shut down so effectively. I miss having that quiet confidence that we will either complete a handful of unexpected passes...or just mow them over by the 4th quarter. Quote Link to comment

Just some teams we haven't been able to run on and Watson just starts throwing it every play. Normally, though, it's a good mix, especially with Helu and Castille coming on. Quote Link to comment

I hate to bash Lucky, but when he is in is about the only time it hasn't worked. Helu is the man, Castille is more than adequate. I look forward to next year watching those two pound on the defenses, they know they have been hit when those guys hit them. I get the feeling there is some sense of loyalty to Lucky, and that is the only reason he is in there sometimes over Helu. Lucky just isn't putting up the rushing numbers that he should as a starter. Agreed. Helu has clearly separated himself from the pack; he's just a very good back in every respect. Castille is looking real good of late too. He flat out crushed that Kat defender up the middle in the 2nd half I think it was. We also have this guy Robinson coming in next year who looks pretty good, plus who knows who else. We'll be very solid at RB. Oh yeah, I think Mendoza is gonna be a threat too, the guy has moves and is fast. Quote Link to comment

Mendoza looked pretty good, granted he was in against a KSU defense that was tired and pretty well beat up, but still he looked sharp. Quote Link to comment
huskerpilot
WOW. Not the response I was planning on getting. It seems every week there is a thread that reads, "is it just me or does our offense suck". Its a nice pleasant surprise to see others are enjoying the O too. Now if only we had a good QB next year.... Quote Link to comment
TXHSKR
honestly? i like nebraska offense right now. it's shifty, sneaky and will eat you alive if you give it half a chance. of all the things that pelini did this year, one of the best things he did was keep watson. yah, it was slow going at the beginning but when watson figured out what side of bread got buttered, nebraska got dangerous. if nebraska gets a punishing fullback in the near future and the blackshirt reclamation process continues apace, the huskers could *very well* be contenders for the north next year. Where are the fullbacks? I understand them being out of the picture on the spread plays, but for the power game they seem to be absent. Quote Link to comment
missouri_husker24
I like our offence too. I think we showed alot of promise with the zone read against KSU, especially in the second half. I also think with Helu, Castille, and Mendoza in the backfield next year we will be effective, no matter who the QB is. I wouldn't be suprised to see Mendoza push for alot of PT next year too, he seems to be the fastest back in our stable. Quote Link to comment

I thought we still had Thomas Lawson this year, or did he get injured early on? Castille, for all practical purposes has the size of a FB but the running skill of an RB. NE is bringing in a FB from PA next yr, can't think of his name right now. Quote Link to comment
