  1. Agree 100%. We cannot be a successful football team if our QB cant throw the football. Plain and simple. Watch the first quarter. He can throw the football. Then watch the second quarter/first play of the second half. We threw the ball 14 times out of 15 plays. Tim Beck decided that he was Steve Spurrier and he had Danny Wuerffel at QB. That's not balanced offense. That's not what this offense should be. It's one thing to blame Martinez for not being able to pass well enough to run a balanced offense - but he did, we had a balanced offense that was humming in the first quarter. The problem is, Martinez can't pass well enough to run the fun-n-gun offense, and that's what why we fell apart. The more distance I get from this game, the more blame I put on Tim Beck for the offensive performance... sadly, the defense was even worse, just no one even knows where to begin on that side of the ball. Yes he threw the football well in the first quarter, and he threw the football well against Okie lite last year. But since he's been a starter, he hasn't thrown the ball well consistently. This year he's completed less than 50% of his passes. In Beck's offense, we cannot survive with a QB that can't complete half of his passes. We can't expect Beck to call plays on every 3rd and long that give Martinez a wide open receiver...No offense works that way. Beck called so many pass plays because our WRs were open. It's not crazy for Beck to expect Taylor to hit an open receiver. This game is on Taylor, not Beck.

  3. It wouldn't work with me if I was a player. Maybe I'm in the minority, but it would just piss me off and make me want to punch him in the balls. It would completely take my focus off of what I'm supposed to do. Maybe that's the case with a lot of these players?? You've never played on an organized football team have before have you? Do you think Bo should hug his players when they screw up? I played QB and safety and did pretty damn well. Having a constructive conversation and teaching the player what he did wrong could work better than screaming at him. But what do I know? I gues I should bow down to your football prowess. Honestly man no disrespect, but from pee-wee football to high school, nothing motivated me more than my position coach or my head coach giving me an ear-full. It sucks to let your teammates down but when your coach lets you know that you screwed up, it gets under your skin. I have no problem with the way Bo treats his players. When our team screws up they should know it. Constrictive criticism works well in some cases, but not when a defense is completely blowing their assignments. Just MIO.

  5. Have to disagree with you there. This isn't pee-wee football. Our secondary needs a fire lit underneath their you know whats.
  6. I just hope Martinez can be developed this off-season and over the next 2 years. In the past, we have had problems developing QBs throughout their tenure here. Cody Green has only made small steps towards improvement since he stepped foot on campus. IMO, you could say that Zach Lee might have matured, but never really developed. I would even branch out to say that Joey Ganz developed only slightly through his career if at all. Ganz, however, had great football smarts and made very few boneheaded mistakes. We can only hope that the lack of QB development in the past can be blamed on Shawn Watson. Good position coaches should be able to take in raw talent, like Martinez, and mold them into proficient athletes in a year or two. Some players (Rex Burkhead) can come in straight out of high school and not require very much development (granted, the transition from high school to college is more difficult for a QB than a RB). Hopefully our revamped offensive staff can truly develop young players to an elite level, and in a timely fashion. Only time will tell.
  7. And the sun rises in the East. Any other obvious facts you want to point out? Great input knapplc. kchusker_chris' I completely agree. Speed kills, but if we cant move the chains on 3rd and short, we will be hurting. Aside from Rex I am somewhat worried about our smaller running back's durability in the Big 10. However, if they can remain healthy along with their blazing speed, Nebraska will bring a whole new style of football to the Big 10 in years to come. It's very ironic that in our first year in a "smash-mouth" conference, we will be running a no-huddle offense that is polar opposite of what we ran in the glory days. Should be interesting to say the least.
  8. No evidence either way on that. We do have evidence that Cody Green approached the staff talking about possibly moving to TE last year, so that's one. Here's where I see everyone in 2011: Taylor Martinez - The starting position is his to lose all year. Cody Green - #1A backup, most likely to switch positions Brion Carnes - #1B backup, most likely to take over TMart's gig Kody Spano - Likely will never take another snap at NU. Knees. Ron Kellogg III - LaTravis Washington 2.0 Nice guy, won't see the field. Jamal Turner - Redshirt Bubba Starling - Signs with the Cubs as the #9 pick in the MLB draft. I don't think Turner will redshirt next year. I could see him as a slot receiver. We need as many offensive playmakers on the field as we can.
  9. The name I keep hearing is Houston's offensive coordinator.
  10. Cody Green has shown more consistency than Martinez, I think Martinez was the most inconsistent player in all of college football he went from Heisman long shot to being benched several times. I think Bo likes Cody a hell of a lot more than Martinez and I think if he can grow the balls to get rid of Watson we will see Green as the starter next year I respectfully disagree. Aside from the SDSU game, Martinez showed great consistency until he was injured. Please give me an instance where Green has been consistent for a time period longer than a single drive; show me some stats. Martinez has had monster games when 100% healthy. People just seem to thrown that fact out of the window. Green on the other had has never lived up the 4 star hype the followed him to Lincoln. I honestly do not believe that Green or Martinez will be the starter at the end of next year, UNLESS we get a QB coach who can actually develop a QB.
  11. Cody Green has shown us no consistency, ever. He still struggles with simple passes. I don't understand how people can defend him when he "gets thrown into games" and "has to many nerves" to get a good drive going. Truly talented athletes make plays when they are called upon, whether it be in the 1st half against a Div. II school or the 4th quarter of a national championship game.
  12. As an offensive coordinator, Shawn Watson has scored only 1 touchdown in the 5 B12 championship games he's coached in. If we can't put up any points like last year, he will be canned IMO.
  13. Simply speaking, they put the bullseye on us because we were first to leave the conference. Plain and simple.
  14. LBer Matt Holt had a 3rd shoulder injury and had to call it quits. He is now in a grad assistant coaching role.
  15. This kid is a stud, and the head coach's son. We played at the same school for one year. He started as a freshman when I was a senior. My gut feeling is he wouldn't go anywhere but Missouri or Nebraska. Seems like the type of kid that would want to stay close to home.
  16. I just completed my freshman year and I somewhat agree. Then again its hard to say how good the faculty is a whole, seeing as I have never attended any other college. Some of my professors were incredible, (chemistry and sociology) while others were horrendous (calculus and sustainability).
  17. I'm not sure if this has been posted, or if this should be in the conference expansion forum. I know it's a little late, but this is the official letter that the athletic department sent all husker students, and there are some interesting statistics. University of Nebraska-Lincoln to join Big Ten Conference Lincoln, Neb., June 11, 2010 -- Big Ten Conference Commissioner James E. Delany today confirmed that the Big Ten Conference Council of Presidents/Chancellors voted to approve the application from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for Big Ten membership. Earlier today the University of Nebraska Board of Regents voted to allow UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman to apply for membership in the Big Ten. "We are pleased that the presidents and chancellors of the Big Ten schools agree that the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is a proper partner," Perlman said. "From both an academics standpoint and an athletics perspective, this makes sense for the future of our university." Perlman said the academic, research and engagement activities carried by UNL are an excellent fit with those achieved by Big Ten institutions. "Our academic and research aspirations have held up to the high standards of the Big Ten," Perlman said. "The Big Ten Conference has much to offer," said Nebraska Athletic Director Tom Osborne. "This is a tribute to our athletic programs, our academic programs and our fans. This is the right move at the right time. This is a rare opportunity that may not have been an option for us in the future. It's the right thing to do for Nebraska." Perlman said uncertainties about the continued stability of the Big 12 Conference were a factor in seeking admittance to the Big Ten. "Other schools in the Big 12 some time ago began to indicate interest in moving to other conferences," Perlman said "With the presidents of the other Big 12 schools unwilling to make a long-term commitment to the Big 12, we realized that our first priority had to be acting in the best interest of Nebraska. Waiting to see what other Big 12 schools decided to do would have placed Nebraska in a vulnerable position. "We are honored to be included in the Big Ten." Head Football Coach Bo Pelini said Osborne and Perlman have made a decision that will be in the best long-term interest of the University of Nebraska. "Obviously, I have a connection with the Big Ten having played in the conference (for Ohio State), and also getting my start in coaching in that conference," Pelini said. "The Big Ten is a great conference, and it will be an exciting opportunity for our football program and all of our teams at Nebraska. That being said, my focus right now is preparing our team for the upcoming season and competing for a championship in the Big 12 Conference. This has been a great league for Nebraska and we look forward to competing on the field this fall." Nebraska's transition to the Big Ten is scheduled to take effect by fall 2011. Perlman briefly outlined other academic benefits to joining the Big Ten: * Big Ten universities attract 12 percent of all federal research funding annually. They grant 14.5 percent of all doctoral degrees conferred in the U.S. each year and 25 percent of all agricultural doctorates each year. * UNL would be considered for membership in the prestigious Committee on Institutional Cooperation, a consortium of the Big Ten universities plus the University of Chicago. The CIC leverages faculty, funding, facilities, investments and ideas to help the collective whole compete and succeed. Among its core projects are library collections and access; technology collaborations to build capacity at reduced costs; leveraging purchasing and licensing through economies of scale; leadership and development programs for faculty and staff; course-sharing mechanisms by which students may take courses at other consortium institutions; and study-abroad collaborations. * The Big Ten is the only NCAA Division I conference whose members all belong to the Association of American Universities, as does Nebraska. * Of UNL's 10 peer institutions (by which it compares itself), five are Big Ten members (University of Illinois, University of Iowa, University of Minnesota, Ohio State University and Purdue University). * The ability to recruit faculty would be enhanced. UNL already competes with Big Ten and other institutions to attract high-quality faculty; UNL would be able to offer access to CIC and other opportunities afforded by Big Ten affiliation. Similarly, new Ph.D.s and other graduates from Nebraska would find their opportunities widened through Big Ten collaborations. * Research collaborations with faculty at other institutions, already important and under way, would increase. * UNL's alignment with the Big Ten will open doors to new investors, entrepreneurs and others interested in expanding regional and national markets through opportunities presented by Nebraska Innovation Campus, Perlman said. "The Big Ten is a historically prestigious and stable academic community of scholars and students," Perlman said. "The Big Ten, known for its athletic prowess, is highly regarded in academe for its academic and research enterprises. There is nothing but upside for UNL to join the Big Ten."
  18. 1 more year in the Big 12 will make every conference game this year more meaningful, especiall Oct 16

  19. I am for the switch to nike too. I think if we are strictly talking about their athletic apparel, they are superior to adidas. I have always preferred nike cleats above adidas, but to be fair I have only owned one or two pairs of adidas cleats.
  20. This is the best part..."That is the point!!! no one gives a **** about Nebraska". Nebraska doesn't realize it!! Nebraska football is big in Nebraska. It is the ONLY thing they have." Because the state of Iowa has soooo much lol.
  21. Personally, I think Martinez looked like he is as good or better of a passer than Green. He definitely outran Green today. I wouldn't at all be surprised if Martinez emerges as the starter come August.
  22. I think its all just hype. When it's all said and done, what NFL scout would really pick McCoy over Suh? None of them.
  23. And racist....... Donkey Kong sounds like Ndamakong, and Donkey Kong and Suh look alike (both big, dominant, and crush the enemy). Not to mention the first time i heard it was from a black friend...
