BIGREDFAN_in_OMAHA
For those that didn't understand the question "intrastate" refers to another rival within the same state borders. Obviously there is none. Too bad Creighton dropped football but they'd probably be playing DIII now if they hadn't. Quote Link to comment
WIHusker
Well I go to UNL and I'm from the Western Wisconsin, so I get the best of both Minnesota and Wisconsin, and neither of these states have an intrastate rival either. They also have populations to support more than one D1 school, Wisconsin 20th and Minnesota 21st in overall population. I think part of the problem is UW and UM's enrollment, which are both over 40,000 total students. There could be a little bit of a rivalry between UW and Marquette in basketball, kind of like UNL vs Creighton, or between UM and UM-Duluth in hockey, but for the most part these states support the flagship university... which I would rather have anyway, creates better interstate rivalries. HuskerTrucker
I just want Oklahoma back..every year. I miss that rivalry...no interstate, cross state, or border....just a good old fashioned rivalry that was one of the best in college football that was sacrificed. Quote Link to comment

hack
yearly beatdowns at the hands of huskers, for one thing. iowa wants nothing to do with nebraska. uh... they've only played five or six times over the last sixty years. I'd like to see some sort of documentation of that statement. okay, clarification: the possibility of yearly beatdowns would enough be enough to keep iowa from inking a deal with nebraska. i don't care what era you're talking about: ten years ago, five years ago or this year... nebraska would give a good game with their bests shot at beating huskers in the begining or the end of the reign of callahan. iowa ain't all that. they look decent in the big 10, but it *is* the big 10 for pete's sake. I'd love to see an annual matchup. as far as an INTRASTATE rival-- the huskers would never want that. What if a "neb st" was actually good? AND won sometimes?? neb wants no part of that, that would never do... Five or six times over the last sixty is nothing. If Iowa had any nads, it would be an annual game. Quote Link to comment

default_28
We don't need an intrastate rival. The lack of one is what enables us to keep our reputation of having very classy fans. Quote Link to comment

NU fans are the classiest in all of sports. Most knowledgeable as well. Just ask those that know. Quote Link to comment

Oh.. you mean back in the day when the huskers were a powerhouse? Makes some sense that NU would want to play them then... Like when NU and Iowa agreed on meeting in '99 and 2000? Obviously scheduled during NU's "power" days. Who do you think scheduled that? Byrne maybe? Sound like Iowa ducked them?? Obviously not! Not even after NU won back to back MNC. And it certainly wasn't a golden age in Iowa football. But the hawks played them anyway. I still haven't seen any evidence, and I have been looking... linky? anything? I'd love to see an annual NU - Iowa game. I suspect it ain't happening for a while Quote Link to comment
