A few years back - can't recall whether it was when Bo was there - LSU used martial arts as part of their summer conditioning program. Mental discipline, flexibility, building up core muscles groups (abs, back, etc.), quickness - a good workout, I would think.

 

Sounds like it would be very beneficial to a football team.
