Offensive Line play

Recommended Posts

All I know for sure is they played woefully on Saturday. I thought I was looking at the offensive line from the first few games last season...bottom line, they sucked. TT was in our backfield more than our backs were. Something has to change, or there has to be some changes at the top of the food chain. What I saw Saturday was totally unexceptable.

I thought the red flags on Cotton should have gone up before LAST season when Slausen mentioned that Cotton didn't stress the technique like the Callahan staff did but was more interested in them getting after it.

I'll try and find the original article.

One thing we'll miss about the Callahan staff.

We still have some good O-line recruits, but we'd better get a competent O-line coach in there.

I remember that. Didn't one of the players––Slauson––say Cotton told them that they didn't practice blocking technique because they were recruited to a place like this because they knew how to block.

I have responded in a couple of threads about this and decided that it needs a thread of its own.

In my opinion, in the VT, MU and TT games, the offensive line play has been terrible. Missed blocking assignments, getting beat, stupid penalties, ect ect ect. In each of these games Lee has struggled.

All of the problems that the offense has had can be traced right back to poor line play, yesterday's game is a prime example. Matt Barkley, Jimmy Clausen, Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford, (insert QB's name here) would struggle if their offensive lines allowed 5 sacks and constant pressure from a rush of 4 lineman. when you can get pressure with 4 players you can drop 7 in coverage. none of the named QB's will have good stats, let alone great stats, when it is 7 covering at most 5

all of the offensive line problems is due to a lack of disciple, and that comes from a lack of leadership on the line (Hickman not taking the lead) and poor coaching. Sure Cotton is a Nebraska guy and all, but i just dont think he has what it takes.

what are your thoughts

F&^%ing thank you for saying that! I am so f%^$ing sick of Barney Cotton he needs to be fired

I forget, who was the O line coach before Cotton? The O line has been a problem for a long time IMO.
