hskerholic
I was reading an old golf magazine and i noticed that a top ten world golf course is in Mullen Ne, 60 miles from North Platte. Has anyone played there and if so are you a member(private course)or were you able to pay a butt load and play. any info would be greatly appreciated. think of going down for a few holes. thanks hskerholic Quote Link to comment
walksalone
My Grandfather (RIP) actually was invited to play there when it opened, and he was a pretty damn good golfer, and he said was the hardest course he'd ever played.... Quote Link to comment

There are only 150-160 members who are scattered all over the world. The course is only open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Play is limited to 50 rounds a day and an unaccompanied guest can only visit Sand Hills once without the member. The green fees are $150.00. The course is links style course reminiscent of the European style links courses. This one is littered with many many bunkers. Fourth hole, 485 yards Par 4 has the largest bunker on the course located on the left of the green. This is what the bunker looks like up close if you happen to pull your approach shot in to it. You can take a pictorial tour of the Sand Hills Golf Club Course here. Quote Link to comment
topekahusker
I did get to play the course 3 times over 2 days and Sarge87 is correct on his facts. Unless the rules have changed, you must be a member of a 'recognized' country club - your Pro cannot write a letter of introduction, someone from your group must write the letter. In the letter you name the group members and their handicaps and date(s) you'd like to visit. Then you wait for the invitation. We stayed in the cabins and dined in the clubhouse and it was an incredible experience. It wasn't that tough of a golf course - I played pretty close to my handicap all 3 rounds. Actually my scores were better from back tees because from the whites I was hitting through the fairways into trouble. I also figured out sometime during the second round that it was more fun to run the ball onto the greens than fly them on...ala Euro style. AWESOME OUTING! I ran into the Pro at a Pro-Am golf tournament the year after we went out to play. I thanked him for the nice Christmas Card he sent to me and I sucked up by offering to buy him a drink etc. He never did invite me back... Rules are Rules for non-members. One visit unless you play with a member or are fortunate. Quote Link to comment
GM_Tood
Another option, if you want to play some quality courses out west is to 'Play the West'. http://www.playthewest.com/page/219-30333.htm Cross Creek, in Cambridge, is one of my personal favorites. Quote Link to comment

RockyMountainOySker
My dad has played Sand Hills a couple times. He says it's great target golf, tough, and fun. He is damn good too.....still a scratch golfer at 63....jerk. Took me until 25 to beat him for the first time. He shot a 78 and I shot a 77 at Champions in Omaha. Quote Link to comment
UGAHusker
Direct quote from a buddy of mine who used to be the PGA pro at the University of Georgia Golf Course when I sent him the link: "If ever there was a reason to go to Nebraska, that is it. That course looked awesome. It was like golf porn scrolling through the holes..." Needless to say, we might be roadtripping out... Quote Link to comment
