Association of Spanish Football Players (AFE) & Spanish League To Meet Again On Monday

 

The start of La Liga remains in doubt after talks to end the players' strike failed on Saturday. The Spanish league said it will meet the AFE again on Monday to "continue the open dialogue to try and unblock the situation of the strike called by the AFE."

 

The AFE has said it plans to extend the strike to the second round next weekend if a deal is not reached. The players are demanding improved salary guarantees and the payment of $72 million clubs owe in unpaid salaries to more than 200 players.

La Liga Strike Still On As Sides Fail To Reach An Agreement

 

The players' strike in La Liga is still on after a meeting between the Spanish football League (LFP) and the footballers' union (AFE) failed to produce results. The two parties will convene again on Tuesday in hopes of avoiding the postponement of Week 2 of the Primera and Segunda divisions.

UEFA Hands Arsene Wenger 2 Match Ban

 

Arsene Wenger has been handed a 2 match ban by UEFA for communicating with his players during the 1-0 win over Udinese in last Tuesday's Champions League game. Arsenal has also been fined $10,000. Wenger was serving a 1 match ban for comments he made after Arsenal's loss to Barcelona in the Champions League last season, and UEFA confirmed tv cameras caught him passing instructions to his assistant via a cell phone. Arsenal has confirmed on their official website they intend to appeal UEFA's decision.

Chelsea Set To Sign Valencia's Juan Mata

 

Valencia star Juan Mata is set to travel to London to undergo a medical before completing his move to Chelsea, according to the player's Twitter account. Valenica announced on Sunday they had agreed to sell Mata to the Blues, believed to be worth in the region of $30 million, subject to the 23-year-old agreeing to personal terms and passing a medical. Mata himself has revealed he will arrive in London on Monday to complete the transfer before returning to Spain to say goodbye to the Valencia fans.

OFFICIAL: Arsenal Sells Samir Nasri To Manchester City

 

In a statement on their official website, Arsenal said: "Arsenal can confirm that they have agreed terms for Samir Nasri to move to Manchester City. The 24-year-old midfielder, who has spent three years with the Gunners, has been omitted from Arsenal's squad which flies to Udinese this afternoon and instead will travel north for a medical. The move will be subject to Nasri passing a medical and formal registration processes."

 

The transfer fee is rumored to be $23 million.

RFEF To Discipline Jose Mourinho For Poking Barcelona Assistant In The Eye

 

The RFEF has announced Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho will be charged for poking Barcelona assistant Tito Vilanova in the eye during the Supercopa second leg last Wednesday.

 

The 48-year-old was seen poking Vilanova in the eye following an ugly brawl at the end of the match, and the Spanish Football Federation has confirmed on its official website that action will be taken against Mourinho.

Barcelona Loans Keirrison To Cruzeiro

 

Barcelona has confirmed on their official website they have loaned out striker Keirrison to Cruzeiro. The Brazilian forward will join Cruzeiro until the end of the year, with reports suggesting Barcelona will pay a portion of his salary. The 22-year-old signed for Barcelona in the summer of 2009 for a fee of over $10 million, but has not played one game for la Blaugrana.

Liverpool Loans Dani Pacheco To Atletico Madrid

 

Liverpool striker Daniel Pacheco has joined Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan, but the Spanish club has sent him straight to city rivals Rayo Vallecano. Goal.com is reporting Atletico has decided not to keep the 20-year-old forward in their squad for next season. Rather, they prefer for him to play elsewhere to see if he develops further and then, perhaps, buy him from Liverpool next year.

AC Milan Signs Alberto Aquilani From Liverpool

 

Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani has joined AC Milan on loan after the two clubs reached an agreement on Wednesday, according to Milan chief Adriano Galliani. The deal will see Aquilani, who originally cost Liverpool $17 million, go to Milan on loan with a $5.3 million right-to-buy clause, which must be met if he plays more than 25 games for Milan.

 

Aquilani is believed to be a replacement for Andrea Pirlo who left Milan in the summer.

Manchester City has signed Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri to a 4 year deal, rumored to be worth $23 million. City has confirmed Nasri will wear the number 19 shirt at his new club. Shortly after signing, Nasri posted this on his Twitter account: "A big hello to all the MCFC fans out there. I can't wait to get started at my new club! Thank you to my friends @cesc4official @Persie_Official @JackWilshere for your message. I will miss you."

OFFICIAL: Chelsea Signs Juan Mata From Valencia

 

Juan Mata has signed a 5 year contract with Chelsea in a deal thought to be worth $23.5 million. Mata attracted interest from other clubs but the 23-year-old revealed that after speaking to the Chelsea boss and Fernando Torres, his mind was all but made up.

 

Mata scored 43 goals for Valencia in 179 appearances.
